A 'Shaitaan' universe is formed: Kajol's 'Maa' opens possibilities of a on-screen reunion with Ajay Devgn

Kajol is heading into new territory with Maa, a mythological horror film produced by Jio Studios and Devgn Films. The film is the latest entry from the universe that brought audiences Shaitaan. At a grand trailer launch this week, the project made headlines not just for its chilling visuals but also for a surprise appearance by R Madhavan, who set the tone with his eerie presence.

The story revolves around a woman, played by Kajol, who is forced to confront a centuries-old curse. Her character is pushed to the edge, ultimately transforming into a fierce embodiment of divine power to fight a growing darkness. The film draws its core from folklore and deep-rooted beliefs, weaving a tale of vengeance, protection, and spiritual unrest.

Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa also features Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma and Ronit Roy in key roles. With a narrative grounded in fear, faith, and betrayal, the film explores how ordinary people are swept into supernatural chaos when ancient forces are disturbed.

Kajol, who has largely stayed away from the horror genre, leads the charge in this new outing. Her decision to be part of a horror-mythology hybrid marks a notable shift in her career.
