CHAPTER 1
Mehek got out of the cab and paid off the driver. She stood in front of a huge building that had many people coming in and going out. She looked out the building to read the thing writing on top of it. "City Hospital." She read in a low tone. "Yaar Mehek isse accha toh you were in Kanpur only. Huh. Okay now that you have come, let's get going." She said to herself taking a deep breath.
Shaurya and Aman who have met after a long time were chatting about their college days and personal and professional life. "Yaar. You have changed a lot. Aisa kya ho gya in past few years haan?" Shaurya asked. "Nothing much yaar. I'll introduce you to the reason for this change." Aman said chuckling. "Who's she haan?" Shaurya joked. "Arre. A special someone." Aman winked. "Tell tell." Shaurya laughed. "Wahi jiske reports dikhaye maine tujhe." This time Aman's voice was heavy. "Oh." Shaurya sighed. They were still chatting about every other thing when someone barged into Shaurya's cabin that left him shocked. "What the hell. Who are you?" He got up from the chair and started shouting. Mehek didn't pay any heed to him and bent to hug Aman. "Bhaiyu." She said engulfing him in bear hug. "Ladoo. Why didn't you call me?" Aman said hugging her. "Bass. Bhajiya tempted me and I forgot to call you." She said bitting her tongue. "Huh. Ladoo. I told you not to have these street foods. Meri koi baat nhi sunni hoti teko." Aman said pulling her ears. "Sorry na Bhaiyu." She said. Shaurya was seeing them in shock. "Someone will tell me yahan kya ho raha?" Shaurya asked holding his head. "Ah! Shaurya meet Ladoo I mean Mehek." Aman said standing up from his chair. "And Mehek. He's Shaurya, your doctor." Aman completed the formal introduction. "Bhaiyu. I told na meko koi doctor ki zaroorat nahi. Itne chote se cold ke liye you made me come here. Huh. I just came to meet Bhabhi and my baby. Don't think ki mai hospitals ke chakkar katungi." Mehek said huffing. "Chota sa cold? She probably doesn't know." Shaurya thought. "And you Mr. Sadu. What have you done to your staffs haan. They're so scared of you." Mehek said looking at Shaurya narrowing her eyes.
"Look Ms. Mehek. You shouldn't interfere in hospital' s matter okay." Shaurya said rudely. "Whatever. Since I know Bhaiyu won't let me be in peace I have to come here more often so I don't want this atmosphere. But don't worry as soon as this cold is cured I'll go." Mehek said with authority. "Aman for God's sake tell her it's Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia." Shaurya almost shouted. "Wow." Mehek said dreamily clasping her hands together. "Bhaiyu. I got such a designer disease. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia." She said excitedly. "Do you even know what it is?" Shaurya asked in disbelief. "Haan some sort of blood cancer but I didn't know itna designer hai iska naam. Haaye." Mehek said leaving Shaurya shocked. He had seen many cancer patients but this girl was the first one to even get so happy hearing about her ailment. "Do you even understand what does this mean girl?" Shaurya felt frustrated seeing her in dreamland chanting the name of disease that will probably take her life away. "Main marr rahi hu har din aur kya. Huh. Whatever. Bhaiyu this Khadoos Kumar is talkative I tell you. Let's go home. I wanna meet Bhabhi and Amol. Please." She said. "Actually. The thing is I had to go to US to attend a Doctor's workshop and so I already dropped Reema at her Mother's house." Aman said taking pause. "So what am I suppose to do here alone in Delhi?" Mehek asked. "You can stay with Dr. Shaurya." Aman said smiling. "No." Both Mehek and Shaurya said in unison. "Please Shaurya. It's matter of just a week. Please adjust na. Please." Aman requested. "Okay I will bass iss Khadoos Kumar ko keh dein ki ye inka sadu look mujhe nhi chalega. He will not shout at me and he'll talk to me whenever I'll say." Mehek laid down her clauses. "Please Shaurya mere bhai maan ja." Aman pleaded. "Okay." Shaurya said putting on his glasses.
Mehek was setting her things in the cupboard. "Madam ji call me if you need anything." Awara said who was still shocked when Shaurya called him in the afternoon to inform about a guest will come to stay over for some days. Never in the past eight years since Shaurya's bed ridden mother passed away that guest came in the Khanna Mansion. "Awara Bhaiya. Meko ice cream milegi kya?" Mehek asked. "Madam Ji in this bone crackling cold you want to eat ice cream?" Awara asked. "Yahi toh best time hota hai to eat ice cream." She said sheepishly. "Okay Madam." Awara said and went to bring the ice cream that he always keeps in refrigerator for his moody Khanna Sir. It was 1 O' Clock in the night when Shaurya came home. He was used to getting home late. He unlocked the door and went inside to seen a Mehek rolling and laughing on the sofa in the living room. She was watching TV. He looked at the screen and saw her watching Shinchan. "What the hell." Shaurya muttered. Mehek didn't register his presence and was in her own world of joy and laughter. There in kitchen was Awara heating the food. He felt good with Mehek's presence. He could feel happiness in the house back. "Ms. Mehek. Can you please switch it off. My head his aching." Shaurya said throwing away his white coat and stethoscope on the sofa. Mehek felt the seriousness in his voice. She closed the TV and went inside. Shaurya sat exhausted. He closed his eyes to get over his headache. He suddenly felt something soft on his head. He opened his eyes to see Mehek was oiling his hair and giving him some awesome massage. "Mehek ke haath mein jaadoo hai aisa sab kehte hain." She praised herself. Shaurya closed his eyes. The pain was already gone. A smile crept on his face, Awara could see from the attached kitchen.
