Looking beyond Mehrya and more at the things Shaurya did and said...🤬 I rather not say anymore. Everyone here already knows the problems

Mel, do these things happen in your country too - obstinate interference from parents in their child's life? Guys objectifying gals or a patriarchal mindset - is that prevalent?

If yes, Are these the norm or more of an exception?

Santi these things do still happen but its phasing out I guess. Unfortunately... my society now is getting out of hand. Children are doing what they want, no respect for their elders. If you happen to look at someone unconsciously and that person find you're looking at them too long, they will want kill you! Its getting hella crazy!! Sharlene can attest for some of these things.

Coming to parents and the involvement in their children's lives. Some are very demanding. They don't respect their children's dreams and wishes while others do support them 110% and even some parents push their children to follow their dreams. So its a mixture. Marriages...there are the one off forced marriages. Arrangement marriages still do happen and if I'm not mistaken the marriages are long lasting 👍🏼 I could be wrong too 😆 plenty of love marriages! 😲 then there are the marriages as a consequence of wrongful acts. Omg we have them all!

I wish to have a love marriage but the way things seem to be going I may end up marrying someone my parents choose for me! Yikes 😳 😆

Santi I forgot to answer your question on guys objectifying gals or patriarchal. Women empowerment is a big thing. Men loves a woman who's independent, working and has the ability to run a family all in one. There are the ones who feel they are God but they are the minority. Equality of men and women are becoming the norm I believe but the mentality some of them have? Goodness me 🤬 you'd wish they didn't exist at all!

@ Kesha only a slap what about a kick in his family jewels a Trini girl will scream, run, and call the police for him sexual assault. I don't know if you or Mel Or icerain will remember a couple years back on a street in POS a guy dared to touch a girl's breast and she shouted for help and the on patrol police arrested him he had to pay her some money and also spent a small jail time,
@ ALL
The things showed In ITV serials surprises me knowing and hoping we have moved beyond that level of thinking but again this is for TRP and maybe I don't know or want to offend anyone about their lives/society maybe this still happens over there and are kept quiet because they [family] don't want shame to be brought to the family. But these things should not be glorified on tv because there are many nut cases who would say well it is shown on tv then it is accepted, and no means yes. What is this encouraging TRP or yes to sexual harrassment

About forceful kissing I remember a group of boys were arrested recently they played a prank on the girls and kissed them on their cheeks without their consent and uploaded the vedio on youtube later these guys were arrested by police because many youtube channels complained about them. Some morons get affected by these fiction shows and try this in real life.

😆 yeah the society doesn't keep quiet about things like that. They fight back. Sharlz nowadays Trini girls can handle their story. If a guy tries to sexually harass them, they will beat the guy before others whose around can beat him 🤣

@Mel, @Sharlene, where are you from?
Am curious to know after having heard of the societal fabric from Mel..

Mel, am mildly shocked to know that might go for an arranged marriage... hope you find your Handsome soon.. 😉

Sharlene, thats my concern too. this glorification of sexual harassment, all in the name of bold, herogiri etc etc and equally concerning is the insensitivity of tracks like molestation that are shabbily handled. either end of the spectrum, the treatment is shoddy and then we have the millions watching.. who shall all is fair game..

Ah! I remember that one! It was a YT or Insta prank or some equally sickening thing.. where a guy went abut randomly kissing gals on the streets.

Mind you, even he had his defenders on social media 😲

@bold - youth are mostly impressionable.. esp in the tiered towns and overdose on movies of a certain khan for whom lifting a gal's skirt with his teeth while dancing etc all qualify as romance.. this is the narrative fed to them and society too condones this behaviour - a la Dhanush from ranjhana or VD from Badri.. shows like saavdhan or crime patrol etc are true reflections of what is happening in the society shorn of the glamor or make believe of shows like ZKM with good looking heroes etc.

The reality is nowhere near as fanciful..

Santi we are from Trinidad In the WI it is a mixture of East meet West
or as my late grandmother would have said too much American tv that is why the children are losing respect for their elders and themselves. Mel is correct equality is a big thing here, also men loves a strong independent working woman but there are those who still prefer to keep their wife as a second class citizen, in the house and yes there is domestic violence my cousin sister had an arranged marriage her husband thought he is her god beat her like a snake and kept her like a second class citizen she lost her voice in her home and family he took all the decisions, but god showed him and he left her all by himself and today she is a happy woman in her second marriage this time it is a love marriage based on respect and trust.

Ah! I know Trinidad & Tobago.. one of our ex-cricketers Robin Singh was born there, Its part of the west indies right.

Sometimes, I feel the narrative is the same or universal.. as I listen to different stories such as that of your cousin. what differs is the degree of its existence. Its a gradient scale - where on one end is subjugation, violence etc and on the other liberty, freedom of thought & action. Countries can be mapped on this scale - to put it simplistically..

P.S am happy for your cousin now.. 😊
