PART 14:
Even with the raucous from the party, there was silence among the two. Their eyes spoke volume, with glimmers of light reflected from their eyes showed dept in the volume of their emotions.
Shaurya: "What? What are you saying Mehak? I know you're mad, but what is the need for all this? If this is you way of getting back at me, then come on Mehak."
Mehak: "You never understand; you only hear the words I say, never understand it. Being mad is beyond what I feel now Shaurya. Maybe you forgot, the divorce papers you gifted me signed."
Shaurya was confused with everything Mehak was telling him. "MEhak, I told you it was complicated. Shruti tried to manipulate everything, I told you what happened. And you're reacting in such way?"
Mehak: "Shaurya, I am getting tired of all this. You web of lies, lack of trust. Sub kuch! I have to check on my son so leave...me!"
Yanking her arm frustrated again he pulls her towards him not losing his grip on her. "Answer me Mehak! What divorce papers?!"
MEhak: "Who do you think you are? Bhagavan! Answering to you for everything! I am done with all this. You expect me to answer to you, but you never give me a straight answer. Why?"
Shaurya stood there surprised at the reflection of Mehak's questions. "It's true, I never did give her a straight answer." he thought to himself. Ashamed of himself for all that he has done, but has yet to prove to Mehak anything.
Mehak: "Everything is complicated right? I thought so! Now, leave me and stay away from me. I don't want any of your influences to affect my son's behavior."
Slowly Mehak began walked away from Shaurya, but couldn't help herself to ask. In a broken voice she asked him, "What was your plan? You wanted to prove your love so much to me like this."
"You told me that you love me. But why would someone gets married to avenge someone and play with their emotions. If I had changed you for the better, built you to the person you are, you should have trusted me, in the love' we had."
Shaurya: "Mehak, you showed me life in a different pair of glasses that showed me what love really is."
Mehak: "Surprisingly, you despised Shruti, but had no problem telling her that you were marrying me for revenge. Revenage for the slap on India's Super Cook show (scene stolen from the actual show.) You wanted revenge because I publicly humiliated you? Revenge for everything you lost: your big investors, your pride, your reputation? All of this for a slap. I did what I thought was right by my family at that time. And this time I am doing what is right to me. How am I supposed to trust you, when I couldn't even tell the difference between the reel you and then real you."
Mehak walked away dejected. Karuna, who overheard their conversation, called Mehak out. Drained by her wounds being rubbed with salt, Mehak replied, "I'm sorry Ma. Main thak gaya hoon, mujhe nahi kapiji. I don't think it was ever to be."
Upset Shaurya walked to his mother, "Ma, let's go home." Karuna nodded her head, "I'll get Rajeev." Moments after they arrived home, Shaurya placed his head in his mother's lap for comfort.
"Ma, I'm so afraid in telling her the truth. Her family is so simple and ours is so complicated and damaged. We are not even a family, just only by title. When Shruti came to me drunk a couple of days before the engagement, I told her that I wanted to marry Mehak for revenge, but as I grew with Mehak, I grew to love her. She just made things right, it just felt right with her. She loved me no matter what I did, she always saw the best in me. She made me into a better person. What should I do Ma?"
"Beta, I know you feels like you're in turmoil, but you have to have faith. Not only should you remind her that you've changed because of her, but also show her. People value others that have helped, strengthened, and supported them the most. I know she does that for you, but show her that you are ready to do the same."
"Ma, I can't help it to think about the little boy that I met at Mr. Sehgal's house. Mehak kept saying my son, my son. In the back of my head, I know she would never cheat me. But I can't help it to wonder is that our son?"
The next morning, Mehak was ready to go to her dhaba. Though she was doing everything that was needed for Mr. Sehgal's family, her mind was somewhere else. As she left to go to work, she reminded Adi not to do anything crazy and to be careful. She knew once she started working, she would be free, like the weight would be lifted off her shoulders.
Shaurya called Mr. Sehgal's house line. Kamala aunty, the house helper, picked up the phone. "Ji, I need to speak to Mehak. It's urgent."
Kamala aunty responded, "Mehak, is not here. She left for work at the dhaba." In a stern voice, Shaurya asked her "The address?" He was determined to explain everything to Mehak today. Without any delay, Shaurya drove to the address.
He arrived at the dhaba, proud of Mehak for accomplishing so much all on her own. He took a look around and saw everything she had done, his eyes finally saw her working so hard in the kitchen. She went around tending to everyone's needs and ensuring the best so, no one would have a single complaint.
As the day become night, slowly customers decreased and she was getting ready to go home. She took a moment and sat down looking up to the sky, just to find some peace. Little did she know, her peace would ease up with Shaurya. He slowly walked up to where she sat. "Tum mujhe yaad kar rahe hain?"
Exhausted she was disturbed by his arrival, she asked him why is he here, "What is it you want Shaurya? I need to get home. It's getting late."
"Mehak, I'm ready. I will tell you everything. Sab kuchh tum jaano chahate hain. I will show you how I changed because of your love and support. You've strengthen me and I will tell you everything."
Mehak: "Is this you way of proving to me that you love me?"
Shaurya: "Mehak, you taught me that love needs time to reveal itself, just like a flower needs time to bloom and a sapling needs time to grow into a tree. It is delicate. Love is not a test. It's an emotion, just like pain or happiness. You can only express it, you can't prove it. It's something that has to be felt and experienced. Love is not something that can be proved, it is shown. I can only show you how much I love you. Our marriage isn't perfect, we all have fights, arguments, but we grew together to overcome the bad and move forward for the good. If you don't agree with me, I will leave forever. But just come with me to the outhouse. I will tell you everything there."
Mehak turned to Shaurya confused what she should do. He looked back at her searching for her answer. Debating with herself, Mehak knew Shaurya was a man of his word, so she firmly decided. "Shaurya, I'm tired...
