Clearly Balwant doesn't carry an ounce of caring for Mehek. Firstly, he blackmails her into accepting the alliance with the baboon, then compromises customs to ruin her reputation and her character. He uses his family status to overrule any misgivings of the other members. Is he a subtle villian , trying to get rid of her by marriage or is he the kind willing to destroy her completely by throwing her in any situation just to see the back of her. He is just as disgusting as Ajay. His hatred has blinded and poison his logic.

Can't Kanta see this backhand ruination? She stood up to Pammi, but allows Balwant to dictate something she will never e encourage. I bet when Mehek starts to protest against something and she starts to show strength, there we shall hear the roar of Kanta chachee.

I wish when Mehek decides not to marry Ajay, She goes on to be a chef and works for Shaurya instead. Even though she is a homemaker, it doesn't mean she can't be a professional cook either.

Great post. I believe that in Balwant eyes the end justifys the means: come hell or highwater his ultimate goal is too see the back of Mehek. He is a mean spietful man who know he has the upper hand right now and will play every card in his deck to do so including his fav. emotional blackmail.
In the end I doubt that Kana will remain silent for much longer...

I think Balwant is an in-secured old man who is using Mehak's guilt(which he piled upon her) and good nature to gain dominance in their joint family.

Kanta can never confront him like she does with outsiders, only PD can tell him off, that's the bane of joint families where elders are respected.

He is going to be a major road block in MehRaya's love story.i think he'll create more drama when Shaurya's family's connection to the accident is revealed.

I don't think he's doing it to rid of Mehak, he's on his own power trip and will wait for reaction when Mehak breaks the marriage to judge him more harshly.

All of you are so right about Balwant. He is the silent villain here. Haven't seen any character like him anywhere before.
He is the only 'hate' that Mehak has seen in life. Whereas Shaurya is an expert in being hated!

Agreed completely with you here... I wrote something similar yesterday under someone's post.
But I have a feeling until unless Mehek is out of Dadaji's care, he will keep putting her into these sort of situations in the future also.

Even if she becomes a very well known chef, as long as she is under his care this would not change.

I personally hate the theory of getting married to escape a situation or life, but in case of Mehek, until unless, her family takes a huge stand against Balwant or Mehek is married, nothing changes in that household.
