Chapter 5

KAUNSI NEHAL KE BAREY MEIN BAAT KAR RAHI HO TUM? Sharuya's question rang in Mehek's mind. The Nehal whom she grew up, was confident, beautiful and aspiring girl. She was clear about her dreams and was not afraid to reach it. But did she actually know whom Nehal turned into. She had to admit that her sister was not more than stranger when she came back to her life again. Yet her love for Nehal made her blindly trust in what Nehal poured to her during their brief rendezvous. But today Shaurya's pain she has forced her to retrospect.

Mehek, Nehal and Ajay were close friends from childhood days. Ajay's home was like second home for Nehal & Mehek. His mother - Pammi Aunty liked Mehek a lot but it was no surprise to anyone when Ajay fell for gorgeous sister rather than plain one. Nehal was his love but Mehek was his best friend. Mehek wanted her own baking business whereas Nehal wanted to be model. Ajay supported both of them. He encouraged Mehek to take exclusive baking coursed in city and Nehal was trying out of modelling assignments. Mehek moved to city and stayed in hostel to complete her their studies. Ajay got into to army. Nehal was shuttling in different cities for auditions. Constant struggle and rejection in glam world got a toll on Nehal. Though Ajay and Mehek gave her full emotional support, Nehal was slipping into depression. Nehal's newly found friends from show-biz did little to help but pushed her further down. Finally when Nehal was caught in a rave party, Kanta chachi brought her back and quickly both families decided to get Nehal & Ajay married. Ajay took long leave and was beside Nehal all the time to support her. Even Mehek felt pang of jealousy, seeing her best friend's care. Nehal was also coming slowly out of her depressive cocoon and enjoying wedding preparation. It was literally big fat Indian wedding. Mehek missed immediate week's function due to her campus interview. Finally when she boarded train to home, she had bagged job in one of best hotels. Everything was perfect. Until...

The day before wedding, Mehek sensed something wrong with Nehal. She suspected that Nehal was rebounding and confronted her. Nehal confessed to her that her agent called to inform about her chance to make it to a big modeling assignment. It was not a sure shot but Nehal's portfolio was selected to the last round of five girls. If she could make it to auditions next day, then it was her last chance to fulfill her dreams. Mehek slapped her hard. She tried to put some sense to Nehal. It was her wedding next day and there she is planning to ditch Ajay for some modelling assignment. "Can't you see how lucky you are to have a man like Ajay in your life". Nehal broke down. Mehek was relieved that she convinced her to do the right thing. Mehek stayed with her and somewhere late night she dozed off.

When she woke up next morning, Nehal was missing. She had left letter for all. It had same things that she told Mehek last night. They were shocked. Honor of both families were at stake. Ajay was broken. She went to console him but he pushed her away. She felt his eyes were accusing her. Finally as head of the family, her Dadu took a decision, " Let's go ahead with the marriage. Mehek will be the bride. It's the only way to save our face infront of the society'. He turned to her " Beta, I know I am asking you a lot. But you have to do this for your family. If baarat goes back empty from this house, I will not able to live with that". Dadu was her hero. He always supported his granddaughter's aspirations. He was a learned man but still a proud patriarch. Seeing him begging was unbearable for her. She nodded and hugged him. "Everything will be fine Mehek. I promise. Ajay is a good boy and Pammi's family will accept you as their own daughter. Soon all will forget this fateful morning but only remember your wedding day." Dadu consoled her.

Her dadu could have been right. Everyone but Ajay let go of it. On her wedding night itself she realized that. Ajay came in completely drunk. "She broke up with me over sms. Can you believe it?". He pulled out his mobile and showed to Mehek, "Look, She wrote that she can't give up her dreams for me and hope that I will understand her one day. Cherry on cake is that she says you know about it and will be able to explain it to me ". Mehek was shocked at this revelation. For Ajay it meant that he has been cheated by his best friend too. "How could you do this to me Mehek? Why didn't you stop her or atleast tell me about it ?". Mahek was about to speak. "No , don't utter a word. I know why you did it? You always wanted me. Behind those innocent smiles, you were scheming to separate me from Nehal and be in my life. Well Congrats . You succeeded. You are in my life. But now I am going to make you pay for it. Welcome to hell honey." He kept his word. Days followed with physical and mental torture from Ajay in his drunken stupor. She endured everything silently. Partly blaming herself and partly her fate. But one day she cracked under that motherly care of Pammi aunty and confided in her. Pammi aunty was furious with Ajay and reprimanded him. "I am ashamed to call you my son. I thought that my son knew to respect women. Don't call me you ma, unless you change your ways" with these words she took Mehek to her room. Thereafter Ajay was aloof from all. Mehek got chance to heal her wounds under Pammi's care. Mehek was resting when one day Ajay came to her dressed in his uniform. "Mehek" he called. She woke and looked at him scared. He was hurt seeing her fear. "I am going back, Mehek. I cancelled my leave. Before leaving I want edto apologize for everything. I was venting my anger on you. I was unfair and blind." Mehek listened to him silently and he continued "I was a coward. Facing your demons is the best way to defeat them. Avoiding them will only make them stronger. I was hiding from my demons , ultimately they took over me & I became one. I am so ashamed of myself. Being a soldier, I am bound to protect & honor my county. But I dishonored you. I apologize." With these words he left. She didn't stop him. She always regretted not stopping him then. That was the last time she saw him. Few weeks later, Ajay got killed in line of duty.

She was ready to get used to the monotonous life of widow. But Pammi aunty encouraged her to start over . She moved in to this town and with her little capital that Pammi Aunty & her Dadu gave her she started her own business. Meanwhile Nehal became famous as a model. She was face of ASR fashions . She was linked with several men - actors, sports person, business men ,etc Her family never contacted her and neither did Nehal contacted them. Occasionally Nehal used to call or e-mail Mehek. Mehek tried to be cordial with her but never forgave her. With time such communication were also minimal. Finally in Pg3 news, it was flashed that Super model Nehal was married to business tycoon Shaurya Khanna. Love birds didn't publish any wedding snaps considering their privacy. Nehal didn't inform any of the family members. Mehak was sad. Atleast Nehal could have dropped her a mail or text. But she didn't . Subsequently Nehal was replaced by some new model. She slowly vanished from news. Mehek expected her to be happy with her new life as Mrs Nehal Khanna. But one day Nehal came back . For a women in her 7th month, she was very weak. She was in great pain. She was depressed. She looked like a ghost. For those two weeks, she stayed at Mehek's place, she poured all her accustation and pain about Sharuya Khanna. Mehek could easily related to her. She has gone through the same with Ajay. But where Ajay was apologetic, Shaurya seemed to be care a damn about his wife & unborn child. That moment onwards she hated him.

But now, after knowing Shaurya and his recent emotional disclosure she was not sure whom to believe. What happened between Nehal and Shaurya? Who was at fault ? Indeed, the coin has two sides. She wanted to hear his side of story too. Ajay never gave her chance to explain herself. She will not do the same with Shaurya.

thanx for the update .everything happened with mehak because of nehal was so sad ,i think she is right to think about listen the story of shauray too. i just feel sad why every time a girl need to scarifice for family sake .
