In reality that girl did not get justice? My Gosh! My heart goes out to the real victim...I sometimes question God's existence when such incidents happen and the culprits and criminals are set free leaving the victims to just die and accept her misfortune.

@The.Lannister - this show just takes its basic idea from that novel which was written by the famous Turkish novelist Vedat Trkali. The novel was based on the true story of a rape victim in Turkey. The show cannot even be called a loose adaptation of the novel...it's is so different from it. A movie however was made on this novel in 1986 and that cld be called its true screen adaptation.

Anyways, in the novel & movie, the girl gets raped by 4 men. 3 of these men are spoilt rich kids and the other is a local boy. The law at that time in Turkey forgave the act of rape if one of the rapists got married with the victim. So, the rich kids get rid of their crime by persuading the local boy to marry the girl. After the two marry, the trio walks free and leave the town. The local boy gets frustrated because he is the one who's left with a wife he does not want. He even beats her once because of which she miscarries their baby. But since the girl has nowhere to go, no one to trust, she accepts and loves her husband. The guy too eventually falls in love with her.

However for the tv series, famous scriptwriters Ece Yren and Melek Genolu just used some part of the basic premise/idea of the novel and created a completely diff and new story around it. For example, in the show Kerim is never shown to harm Fatmagul psychically. He is in fact shown as a righteous man and a passionate lover. Fatmagul too is shown as a strong feisty character who refuses to accept him as her husband until she falls in love with him. Also, the show introduces many new characters who didn't exist in the true story or in the novel. These include Mustafa, as Fatmagul's fiance, who dumps her immediately after the rape, Fatmagul's sister in law MQ, who is a sly, unreliable woman, Meriyam Abla, the woman who raised Kerim and is the biggest supporter for Fatmagul etc. Also, in reality or in novel, there's no war between the 3 rich boys and Kerim & FG which the series shows, Most importantly, the series shows Fatmagul getting justice with the culprits being put behind bars while in reality they had all walked free.

So, as you can see, the tv series does not have much in common with the novel except for the fact that the girl is gang raped and the rapists are rich boys who force her to marry a local friend of theirs. Rest everything is changed including the fact that the guy she marries is not a rapist. Therefore, we can't even consider it to be "based" on that novel actually. They just used a part of its basic premise and built their own epic story around it.

Good that they did so coz if they had they gone with the original story, the show wld have never worked, even in Turkey. In fact the show created a huge controversy till the time it wasnt made clear that Kerim had not raped Fatmagul, as public/media/social orgs etc had gone up in arms thinking that the series was going to show the victim getting married to her rapist and falling in love with him, thereby glorifying this kind of a union, esp since popular stars were playing these characters.

Thanks for this detailed account 😳

And Mustafa is seriously more annoying than those three... 😳 I wonder would there be any time in upcoming episodes when I'd feel bad for him? 🤔

Not really, infact never... Mustafa is that one filthy character that will get worse with each passing episode 😡 😡 I can't even stand him for a second 😡

In case anyone is wondering why Fatmagul is rarely shown with her hair open (even though she looks great with her hair let loose) or why is she fully covered from head to toe even with her neck covered. This is what Beren said when asked this question by a journo -

Journalist : After the rape scene, you were dressing in a special way. You were always wearing additional things under your dresses like leggings etc or covering you neck with scarves. Was it planned because a raped girl closes on herself even in the way she dresses?

Beren : We worked with psychiatrists who helped us understand the mindset of the character. After the rape, everyone blames the raped girl. Even she herself. She keeps asking herself all the time "what did I do? what is my mistake?". Therefore, Fatmagul's look, her clothes that we used after the rape were important. She doesn't leave her hair loose anymore, she stops taking care of herself like women usually do. As the specialists explained to us, she inwardly keeps blaming herself and that's reflected in her outward look. She keeps her hair tied, wears dark clothes, ensures no part of her skin is revealed except her hands and her face in order not to attract attention. But after time passes and she starts going for therapy and falls in love with a man, she starts wearing more colorful clothes, starts letting her neck remain uncovered, starts to let her hair free and put a little bit of make-up too. Basically, she starts to laugh again, tries to heal herself and deal with life in a positive way

@bold: Nah! I started with hate, then detested him, then grew tired of him 🥱 & then finally started seeing him simply with a 😳 expression. You will get the progression as the show progresses😆

Apology

"A sincere apology has three parts!!...
1) I'm Sorry,
2) It is my Fault,
3) What can I do to make it right."

Kerim leaves the house & spends the night & next morning driving & soul searching. He remembers when he saw Fatma about to commit suicide after the rape, how defeated she seemed at their court marriage ceremony, her contempt when she saw him with the envelop of money & when she told him, he is one of her four enemies. Her harsh words echo in his head. He recalled how she came to him and said that she wants to forget everything. Finally, he calls EbeNine & ask to speak to Fatma.

He assert once again that he is no longer friends with the others, that he did't rape her, but that he is a guilty as they are, he did't protect her that night. He tells her that he married her to protect her, but he has failed, mainly he has failed to gain her trust & to make her life better. He tells her that if she doesn't believe him, he prefers to arrest himself into the police, so that they all pay for their crime. FG can't believe what she is hearing. He hangs up phone after telling, 'I Love You, even though you do't believe me & tht's my only truth'. He walks into the police station & tells the poilce chief that he wants admit to the crime that he & others committed.

Kerim has indeed shown at every turn, since the rape, what a gentleman he is, in every sense of the word. His patient, kind & loving. His only problem was, his earlier weakness with his buddies & the fact that he let the rape happen. But other fact is, he has never shied away from taking responsibility for his mistake. He never tries to hide behind excuses or take refuge in half truth. He has always accepted that he too was guilty because he had not stopped the crime from happening before his eyes. It was always going to have to be a full confession before the police that'll make Fatma finally begin to forgive him for that humongous mistake. He was failed to became knight and shining armor for Fatma that night. But he never failed to show his warrior spirit. He always shows his ability (guts)to stand by Fatma but his earlier lack of courage always come between his apology & put a question mark on this. But now his determination to win Fatma's trust over power his every inner fear & he is showing his courage with guts & determination.

Fatma said to Kerim, "itz easy to ask for Forgivness because everybody knows once own pain...if the one'ld know what the person in front feels, may be the one'ld not even be brave enough to ask for Forgiveness." & Kerim replied her, "A person has to deserve to ask for Forgiveness...How can one Forgive she does't believe?"

All the flashbacks remembered by Kerim shows that he knows what Fatma feels. He knows her pain, her trauma. Now he is showing his bravery by trying to win her trust.

So the real forgiving has finally begun for Fatma & the real battel also begun for Fatma. Now she has enough strength to Fight, because her strength has enough courage to Heal her.

"(To Fatma)Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength...while (To Kerim) loving someone deeply gives you courage."

Between all these incidents, here came another apology by Vural...
After Kerim's call to tell Vural off for destroying he was trying to build with Fatma & then goes to see Fatma to try to fix things (more about goes to remove his guilt). As he yells to Fatma that Kerim did't touch her & he did her rape only because of drug...he was out of his head high & begs for her forgiveness. fatma yells that she wishes him dead & tells him to go to hell. EbeNine, Mukaddes & Rahmi chase him off but Fatma's words echo in his head. He accelerates along the road, and then swerves his car at high speed into a retaining wall.

"Never ruin an apology with an excues".

Where Kerim never tries to hide behind excuses, even he has enough amount of excuses to try to shied away from taking responsibility for his mistake...But Vural's apology was full of excueses. One side Kerim is trying to heal Fatma for her Forgiveness...Other side Vural was trying to heal himself by her forgiveness. Vural definetly ruined his apology by his excueses.

"The ideal man bears the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best of circumstances."

And winner is the man who is determind to prove that "I'm not Perfect but I'm Definetly not FAKE".

PS-
This review is based on orignal dialoges (english subtitles) of the show 😊
