Movie Review :: Bachaana Is A Trip To Mauritius That Wins Hearts

The first Pakistani movie of 2016, Bachaana, will hit the cinemas on the 26th of February. The release of this film could not come at a better time. Cinemas are experiencing some slow business at this time of the year. Can Bachaana deliver on it's pre-release buildup and hype? Can it deliver a huge dose of entertainment? After all, that's what you expect when you watch a movie called "Bachaana", Right?

The makers of Bachaana already told the media that they wanted the film-goers to have a cinematic experience rather than deliver a lesson. They certainly did deliver on this promise. This film has all the ingredients of an out and out entertainer and is rather well made.

The movie opens up in Mauritius and unexpected circumstances force a Pakistani taxi-driver, Vicky (Mohib Mirza) to help out an Indian girl, Alia (Sanam Saeed). They both get to run all over Mauritius and face off with some bad guys and maybe do some romance along the way.

The locations are stunning and Mauritius looks really neat on the big screen. Nothing looks forced and the location fits in quite well within the narrative. Mohib Mirza gives a splendid performance as Vicky. Many people had doubts whether Mohib could pull off such a role but he managed to do really well. Surprisingly, Sanam Saeed delivers a fantastic performance. The audiences were accustomed to seeing Sanam in an emotional role on the small screen but she managed to shine with a very fresh character in Bachaana. Yep, this probably is the first time that Sanam gets to do an action scene and jump in a waterfall! The funny man, Adeel Hashmi is seen in a very different role and the people will actually enjoy this change up in character for him. He portrayed the role quite well.

Some of the lines are quite humorous. One scene where Vicky's friend translates from Urdu to English will definitely make you laugh and there is also a scene where Mohib's character explains why Pakistani's don't get a visa which will set off a laugh. The comedy is nice and clean. This is a rarity nowadays. This movie can easily be watched alongside the family.

Some of the scenes are really pleasant to watch on the big screen. The waterfall scene was brilliantly done and the climax will be liked by many. There are many twists along the way which will surprise many.

The film does not have a very extensive soundtrack but all the songs are nicely slotted in. Shafqat Amanat Ali's "Yaari Yaari" perfectly captures the emotional state of the two characters and Symt's "Koi Labda" came at the right time before the climax. The background score perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the film.

On the whole, Bachaana is a very entertaining film. It is a rom-com thriller. The comedy is nicely done and the romance is well baked. Unlike many comedy films of the recent era, Bachaana does not feel like a drag. With a run time less than 2 hours, Bachaana does not feel out of pace throughout the run-time. It's not a movie which will make the audience feel grumpy but will rather make them feel pleased. Bachaana is definitely worth a watch.

Director Nasir Khan raises the bar with Pakistani Film Bachaana

Bachaana is an upcoming Pakistani film, all set to release world wide on February 26, 2016. We at SilverScreen Pakistan and FilmsPlusMovies are really excited at the developments we see in Pakistani film industry with every new filmin recent times. However, it is only fair to say that Nasir Khan has raised the bar for others in the industry, and that too, at an impressive scale.

Sanam Saeed, Bachaana

What is so special about Bachaana? Well, there are so many factors that make Bachaana special. Pakistani movie Bachaana produced by Rizwan Saeedhas a refreshing feel. The locales are natural and beautiful. Exceptional camera work, stunning cinematography and excellent art work makes the whole affair pleasant to look at. Color grading of the film is really good, which has helped enhance the good feel of the movie. A major improvement in the technical dimension is much improved sound design in comparison to previous, recentPakistani films. It is heart warming to see that Pakistani film industry is improving with every new film. The new film makers in Pakistan are not only paying attention towards stories and acting, they are also aware of the fact that our films need to improve technically too. All this is special about Bachaana. There is a lot more which is special about the film though.

Bachaana is Nasir Khans debut film as a director. It is Sanam Saeeds first silver screen appearance. It is Adeel Hashmi's first big screen appearance. It is only Mohib Mirza who has worked in 5 movies by now. Although the acting by the lead couple and Adeel Hashmi is top notch, what makes Bachaana different from the rest, and for the better, is that Nasir Khan has finally helped Pakistani cinema by delivering a complete film. In recent times, we have seen some reasonable attempts at cinema by big names from the TV industry. However, those films were hardly any different from what we see on TV in the form ofdrama serials. This is for the first time in the recent cinematic wave in Pakistan that a director's taking is completely that of a film. Excellent framing by Nasir Khan. Thumbs up director sahab!

Mohib Mirza, Bachaana

So, here is the review of Pakistani film Bachaana:

Direction: Very good (Excellent framing, good selection of locales)

Production Value: Very good

Script: Very good (Excellent punch lines! It is not a HaHa! comedy, but a very interesting, fast paced romantic thriller comedy which keeps you glued to your seat)

Story: Good (It is simple, it is entertaining and it is executed really well)

Cinematography: Excellent (We finally see a Pakistani film which is not confined to a room or a house as a set. It shows real Mauritius).

Sound Design: Very good

Editing: Excellent (Crisp! Crisp! Crisp! Not for a moment you feel that the film is dragged)

Background score: Very good (Ali Sher has returned to the lime light with this background score. Excellent work!)

Music: Good (There are only 3 songs in the film!)

Casting: Very good (Adeel Hashmi is the best choice of all. Adeel Hashmi plays an interesting character. The look in his eyes, and his cold stare is defining. Sanam is really good choice for Aaliya. Mohib too has done justice to his character)

Rating: 8.5/10

Bachaana is a simple, family entertainment which everyone can enjoy. It is definitely a must watch for all!

Ppl r loving the movie and seems the movie is going beyond teh expectations of the audience.😃 I think they really kept the movie under wraps like they never revealed what Adeel Hashmi's role was and just released 1 trailer of the movie and although they promoted the movie a lot, but that not exaggeratedly hype it.

Also the promotions were very hands on and at the grass root level and the whole team, especially Sanam and Mohib put in a lot of hard work in promoting the movie. And then they promoted the movie on social media, which really worked for them, with dubmashes and all. But finally promotions can only work to get the initial audience in, but if the movie fails to deliver, all promotions go down teh drain as we know from so many movies. But ppl r enjoying and loving the movie.

Also I doubt without the promotions they wld hv got ppl interested so much. They didn't have huge names associated with teh projects. HUM Films came on board, but haven't been very active in promoting the movie. They don't hv other frills like item numbers and cameos. So really kudos to the Bachaana team and major credit goes to the director Nasir Khan who had the vision, put it into reality, got everything right, did not take the audience for granted and made a worthy movie and then promoted it the way he did. (BTW I know how much the director has worked hard to promote the movie - inside info😉)
