I really don't feel like making a long post.
In short, I disagree that the director is making any mistake. And that no one but the director sees what he is doing.
There are those who get and appreciate what the show is portraying.
It is portraying a situation. A realistic situation in fact, and everything which surrounds the situation. And it is not holding any punches. People on one hand complain about Jassi being 'glorified' but at the same time is questioning how Jassi can be shown as so selfish.
It's simple, if the writer and director and producer were so adamant of making Jassi some hapless heroine, the easiest choice would have been for her to make an attempt to not pursue this anymore due to Channi and then be so overcome and finding themselves not being able to do so.
However that is not the route the show is taking, and it is consistent...because the two people who are already having an affair on Husband and brother, is it really so surprising that they would think they could continue on with her sister? One is more realistic and worried, while the other has always been 'ziddi' and somewhat short-sighted. She first pushed the marriage with Nimmi for Naren, without thinking of consequence while Viren questioned. Now she is pushing marriage with Channi to cover up the mess, while again he is questioning.
Also Viren didn't exactly snub Jassi due to abortion. While she reached out to him,, he didn't realize she reached out to him. He was scared and freaked out of his mind. But never blamed her or was angry with her. She reached for him in the bedroom while at that same moment he freaked out, it wasn't that she took his hand and he rejected. Same way in the car, she reached for his shoulder but he never is aware of it. When he realized his mistake of staying out all night, he tries to make sure to go home on time for dinner. When Nimmi tries to get him to stay at her house, he still ends up not doing so and going back to the house.
He is fed up now because as he rightly said, she is treating him like a machine. She pushed him into marriage for Nimmi due to Naren and her own reasons. Naren pushed this marriage and match for his own reasons, and she obliged her husband and her want to have him get his leave and job opportunity as well.
So now Nimmi rishta breaks down, then she pushes him to marry Channi. And again, he is worrying about them being found out while she doesn't care. Not only that, she is so sure of everything while till now everything is crashing around them. One problem after the other.
Jassi who was the one who was not concerned when Viren himself asked her if she would be jealous, is now feeling the jealousy. She is behaving in the way that she was NEVER supposed to.
She pretends to be in pain while the family is worried, and the reason Viren is pissed off comes out in his outburst to Channi. She is fine, everyone is fine, I am the bewaqoof. He and the family spent the night worried about her while she was exaggerating/faking.
Though it is interesting thought, that the one person Jassi is actually showing her true self to is Viren. She doesn't hide from him that she pretended. She tells him the truth.
It was clear from the first episode itself, and if not that, then the first two weeks, that this was not a matter of some fairy tale. But rather the complexities that comprise and would arise in this situation.
Yes, the show's narrative shows us a protagonist with empathy, but they do not shy from showing her unflattering traits and behavior. yeah, the narrative is empathetic to Jassi, but it doesn't attempt to take an 'easy way out' by trying to make her less selfish or 'more likable.' It shows clearly her selfishness, while at the same time they do not short change Channi either. It could've been easy to have someone like Nimmi as wife, but instead the show gives Channi, and gives footage to her and doesn't shy away from the fact of what wrong is being done to her. Focuses on her innate happiness hopes regarding the marriage.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Not everyone will enjoy the show. Not everyone will see it the same way. it doesn't matter.
But there are others who do, actually and do get what the makers are doing and appreciate them for the same.
