Okay Im asking this only out of curiosity,so please dont be offended in any way-cousins getting married,is it very common there? Ive seen it in almost every other show on zindagi and made me wonder.

I mean I know it happens here too,but its very rare. And I personally dont know of anyone who has married their cousin.

Medically speaking,as far as I know, marrying within the family can give rise to gene pool defects,so its preferred not to marry within the family to avoid birth defects in off-springs.

in Islam cousin marriges are allowed not compulsory ,marriges out side family also allowed
no restriction at all
the only basic rule is the marrige should be done as per boy & girl wish

families prefer marriges inside family because they want there childrens to be infront of there eyes as most of them live in joint family this is one of the famous reason i've always heard
marriges inside the family is also done to save there family wealth from apportionment as per Islamic law girls also have share in parents property

but now a days after the medical advansment there are families too who done all the medical tests before the cousin marrige to avoid medical complications

cousin marriges are still found in muslim communities some are done as per parents or family wish & poor boy & girls are compelled to get married
& some cousin marriges are done as per the boy & girl wish

in my family in my parents generation there are many cousin marriges all of them are done by family wish surprisingly all have a great married life there childrens are grownup we are cousins now

in my generation there is only one cousin marrige which is done as per the boy & girl wish surprisingly the parents were not agreed & it was totally a filmy situation where both the boy & girl turned the sky & earth up down 😆& finaly got married & now blessed with 2 cute baby girls & living a happy married life

You have explained it really well, a lot of these events and rasmein on Shaadi are not anywhere in Islam. In Pakistan people have Nikkah, Mehndi, Shaadi and Valeema functions...only Nikkah and Valeema are truly Islamic function the rest have more to do with culture. Also I have noticed in other muslim countries bride wear white on their wedding day while in Pakistan they wear white during Nikkah and Red on the wedding day

thanks dear yes most of the events & rasams are cultural
Arabs & Turk mostly wear white gown in there marriges & this is adopted from europe when the Arabs & Turks invaded in europe & build empires there marriges with romans, christians i-e Ottoman empire

So it is common there in that case?Hmm.
Oh so its preferred not to as per Islam?Good to know.

On a second note, what are ur takes in this?second cousins toh phir bhi I can understand, but first cousins-isnt it awkward? I mean u grow up with them, play with them and be with them like brothers and sisters.

BTW Jodah thanks for that informative post. its good to know ur cousins have started their family. Lucky couple. There have been a lot of cases where there have trouble with having kids in cousin marriages :(

But this word has been so constanly rung into my ears that I have started using it in my life as well.

^Edit-Yes,you can easily comprehend the meanings of the word in the context they are spoken.

No it's not and though Urdu is not my mother tongue, but the language I speak has a smattering of Udu words, yet at times I don't know the meaning of some words used in d epi. Like in the last epi of ZGH, whn Kashaf was lying on the bed and musing over Zarron and Asmara, she used a couple of words tht I just couldn't figure out the meanings of like zahanat and tavajjo. I guess tavajjo means attention.😕

yes pretty much. There are a few words which are unfamiliar, but one can kinda figure it out in context, maybe not the exact meaning, but more or less.
For the exact meaning there's Google Translate zindabad!😆

Another word that comes to my mind before the Hindi word these days is "nasiat". 😆
