Siddhesh Pai tagged for elimination

Anjum Cheval / Hill Road Media

The talented dancer Siddhesh Pai was tagged this week by the girl's team. Is this a new strategy by the girls?
Zara Nachke Dikha has had one of its most interesting weekends. First, Rakhi Sawant came back despite an average performance and then Siddhesh Pai, one of the most talented dancers was put in the danger zone by the girls. Why would they do something like that? Put such a good dancer in the danger zone. They justified this by saying that it was only Siddhesh who ever performed in the 'Zara Hatke Raound' and that was unfair.

This apparently did not go too well with Siddhesh. He looked upset and made some comments on the judges and on the girl's team too. He had an argument with Sangeeta and Rashmi. But it was all in the heat of the moment and in fact Siddhesh was not upset over being tagged. He just wanted to know what criteria the judges were looking at while judging so that they could prepare in that way. We spoke to Siddhesh to clear out the misunderstandings and here is what he said…

When you were tagged, you looked quite angry and you said something like 'mujhe aapke judging aur points se koi lene dena nahi hai' what exactly did you mean by that? You were misunderstood by many people for that comment of yours?
"Yes, many people misunderstood. I wasn't angry because I was tagged. In fact, I was happy that I had got another chance to prove myself, to give another amazing performance. I was upset over their basis of judging a performance. The girls get 19 and we get 18, that is okay. But the problem is that the theme that we get for the round, the girls are unable to perform exactly on that. In that particular round, was just being aerial important or dancing was just as important? And I personally think our performance was much better than theirs."

Shedding more light on what exactly happened, he said, "Rashmi made a comment saying that I'm the only one who is a professional dancer here and the rest are just actors but in fact isn't Rakhi a professional dancer too? And Mukti and Sangeeta are trained dancers too. When I fell during the mother's day special episode and got up, that wasn't my professionalism, it was because I wanted to perform. I took up dancing as a way of earning my bread and butter. If my family was rich, I too would have become an actor, good or bad that doesn't make a difference to me. For me, my work is bigger than anything. It is even bigger than me. My only question to the judges was on what basis do they judge the performance, on what basis do they give us the marks. I just wanted to know what were they looking for in poor performances so that the next time we could prepare ourselves accordingly."

You are a very strong contestant, an asset to the boy's team; do you think that by tagging you, the girls were trying to demoralize the boy's team?
"Yes, I think they were, but I've proved to them that with the boy's team, there is nothing like over-confidence. I always try to push myself to the next level during the challenges. And my team mates tell me that because of you, even we give our hundred percent, even we try our best.

During the fire act, it was a risky stunt that you did, and Shilpa and Vaibhavi appreciated it a lot but Arshad did not give you very nice comments, what do you have to say about that?
"See this is a reality show, it is sometimes scripted, sometimes not. Sometimes it doesn't work according to the script. What is going in their mind, nobody knows. And everybody likes to win, nobody is born to lose. So it's ok now, it's done and over with."

Do you think the judges are partial in anyway?
"No they are not, but the problem was they never told us what was wrong with the performance. Earlier they just said things like 'aacha hai' and that what the girls did, the harness act was more risky but the point is not to do a risky act, aacha sa dance karo, risky nahi and the choreographer has to understand that. If you just do a nice dance, the performances will match up. Even our Chor-Police act was risky and we got hurt too but we never made a noise about it. But now after I raised my question that day, they tell us exactly what is wrong, what is it that we need to improve. So I don't think they are partial."

What was the reaction of your teammates when you were tagged?
"They were all shocked. They were all saying what they will do without me. But I assured them that I'll be there. I'll do the baazigar round and the group act and everything that I'm needed to do. You guys don't worry."

So what did you do for the Baazigar round?
"I did a robotic dance; it's something that I've never done before. It was really tough but I took it as a challenge for myself. I just didn't want to be safe. If I wanted to be safe, I would have taken some easy Bollywood dance but I wanted to do something different that people would enjoy."

So what is the game plane of the boy's team?
"Our strategy is very simple. It's to beat whatever the girls plan against us. And we try to take our weak point and turn it in to our strength. Kapil is a slightly weak dancer but we have planned an amazing performance for him.

To catch Siddhesh's Baazigar performance, tune into Zara Nachke Dikha, every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm only on STAR Plus.

Dancing dudes
- The Mastkalandar Boys of ZARA NACH KE DIKHA have nominated the best among them. Listen to what the fiery four have to say and watch them set the dance floor on fire on Star Plus every Saturday-Sunday, 9pm

SIDDHESH PAI

Participated in Dance India Dance on Zee TV in 2009

Expectations from the show

Star Plus and Zara Nach Ke Dikha have given me an amazing platform to showcase my talent. I am especially grateful as it helps me get closer to my fans.

Contribution to the team

My experience and knowledge will help me help our team win.

Going one-up on his opposition

With my skills I will help my team and we will beat the girls.

Message to the girls' team

I love you all but please don't hate me after I win.

The best dancers in Mastkalandar

Aksshat, Abhishek Awasthi and Sushant Rajput.

The best dancer in Masakkali

Sanjeeda Sheikh.

Favourite judge?

Vaibhavi. She is a choreographer. In my life I have had only one dream, to work with two of the best choreographers — one was Remo, whom I was judged by on a previous show and Vaibhavi who is judging this show. Although I couldn't work with her at least Star Plus has given me the opportunity to meet her and have her critique my skills.

ABHISHEK AWASTHI

Participated in Nach Baliye. Rakhi Sawant's ex partner, famous for being slapped by her

Expectations from the show

I am happy to be back on the dance floor. I was looking forward to an opportunity where I could dance again and Zara Nach Ke Dikha is the best platform to showcase my talents and at the same time improve my dancing skills. Moreover, being associated with Star Plus also raises your popularity.

Contribution to the team

To be ready to perform for my team at any given point even if it is impromptu. I will strive and be there for my team in the time of any emergency.

Going one-up on his opposition

We will come up with such dance acts and moves that the girls will never be able to even think of. "Unka act hamare saamne paani kam pad jayega."

Message to the girls' team.

Beware of US.

The best dancers in Mastkalandar

All are quite good

The best dancers in Masakkali

Many are good dancers. But to name a few, Sanjeeda, Rakhi and Rashmi

Favourite judge?

My favourite is Arshad. I love the jokes that he keeps cracking on the sets. He also represents the boys' team.

AKSSHAT

This Calcutta boy was the pick of Zee's Cinestar Ki Khoj in 2007 and has done various modelling assignments. Also acted in a Bengali film with Prosenjit and Bhavna Talwar's Hindi film Happi

Expectations from the show

Zara Nach Ke Dikha is a very good platform to showcase your talent. Because we work in teams it helped me learn about team spirit and what it's like to work in a team. It has also taught me to work hard. I haven't rehearsed this way before, not even in my dance classes. Also, since it is on Star Plus it is helping me build a good reputation with the audience and also gain their support.

Contribution to the team

200% hard work. I am there for my team and am ready to take any risk to ensure that we perform to the best of our abilities

Going one-up on his opposition

By making smart strategies, that is the one thing the girls lack... they do not strategise like us boys.

Message to the girls' team

Beware! Aksshat is here.

The best dancer in Mastkalandar

Siddhesh (Pai).

The best dancer in Masakkali

Mukti (Mohan) because of her technical background and experience

Favourite judge?

Vaibhavi because she is more neutral and very specific in her feedback.

SUSHANT RAJPUT

Has trained with Shiamak Davar for close to half a decade. Thinks dance is "therapeutic and enriching". If shooting for TRP topper Pavitra Rishta left Sushant Singh Rajput with no time to pursue his passion, he is all set to make amends with his stint on Zara Nach Ke Dikha.

What made you sign up for ZNKD?

Well, the channel (STAR Plus) approached me one day with the concept, saying that a lot of other fellow actors on TV had already consented to be on the show. I was initially hesitant because Pavitra Rishta takes up all my time. But once I sat down and figured out my schedule, it all worked out pretty well and I decided to give this a shot.

Unlike most other contestants, you actually have a background in dance…

I have always been very passionate about dance. I trained with Shiamak Davar for a couple of years, but I think I am quite a natural mover. I did a lot of shows with Shiamak, moving with his troupe from city to city. I just love being on stage.

With the show on air for two weeks now, how has the experience been so far?

So far, it's been pretty mixed. I have put in a performance or two and while I am pretty satisfied with the effort that I put in, the judges are really scrutinising every move of ours right down to the last detail. I expected them to be a lot more chilled out (laughs). I am happy that Zara Nach Ke Dikha has a stellar line-up of judges, Shilpa Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Vaibhavi Merchant, but they sometimes forget that we are actors and not professional dancers!

How has the equation been with your fellow contestants?

Although it's a face-off between two teams, everyone gets along very well on the sets. I have got close to a couple of guys like Aamir Ali and Karan Kundra. After the shoot, we go out once in a while for a drink.

How are you managing to shoot for a daily soap and a reality show at the same time?

It's very difficult, but I am trying to work around my crazy schedules. I shoot for Pavitra Rishta for 14 hours a day and the rest of the 10 hours are for rehearsing and shooting for Zara Nach Ke Dikha. I eat on the sets and sleep in the car!

Things may get a little stressful when its result time on Zara Nachke Dikha, but the pressure to perform well does not stop our stars from having a great time on the sets, and the same goes for Angad Haseja a.k.a Alekh and Karan Kundra, who seem to have bonded like long lost buddies.

While talking to TellyCafe, Angad says, "Karan is a brat and we have a blast on the sets. We share a kind of Punjabi connection and are always up to something. We never seem to rest and are constantly up to something naughty."

And though Angad finds it most comfortable to work with Kinshuk (Rajeev) and Sara (Sadhna) on the sets of Bidaai, its Karan with whom he shares a great rappo while on the sets of Zara Nachke Dikha.

So though the boy's team seems to be lacking behind as far as points are concerned, they sure seem to be way ahead when it comes to having the best time of their lives. Wonder what Karan would have to say to this...

Vaibhavi's picks this season

Celebrated choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant, who is judging STAR Plus' reality show Zara Nachke Dikha is in awe of the stunning acts the contestants have showcased so far on the show. Right from the pro at dancing to the two tiny-tots, she has praised them all for their mesmerising acts.

In her own words, the lady behind the moves of Dola Re (Devdas) had declared in one of the episodes that she has witnessed some of the rare acts on this show. All these acts have been choreographed by Karishma for the Massakalis and Harshal-Vithal for Mastkalandars while their assistants are Deepa, Uchita, Saaket. Here's a look at some of the acts that impressed Vaibhavi. The fire act
t
In the second episode of the show, Massakali girls did something which was never seen on the dance floor. Both Mukti and Hazel performed a fire act, which has all kinds of stunts but at the same time very dangerous as well. After the performance, Vaibhavi gave a compliment to Mukti saying 'You are looking hot and I have never seen such dance by girls...

The fire-brand
It looked as if the two teams had sworn to set the stage on fire and Vaibhavi seemed to be loving it. After the fiery act from Massakalis, the lady was a witness to an even more hot act put together by Siddhesh Pai and Akkshat Gupta. She was impressed with the well co-ordinated act of the guys but was eqaually scared for them having attempted such a dangerous act. She applauded Siddhesh for having tried something as risky as this as he had to jump into the fire.

Former lovers unite for an act
The act had Rakhi Sawant and former boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi perform together. And Vaibhavi was all praises for Abhishek. She even went on to say that Abhishek was better than her counterpart. She felt that the lad was technically more fit and nimble footed whereas, Sawant felt a little short when it comes to doing his moves swiftly.

Little Sparsh's divine performance
Massakali little girl Sparsh Khanchandani performed something different, well the budding actress did Natraj tandav in Lord Shiva get up and she got good comments from all the three judges.Vaibhavi Merchant was so happy with her performance that she said that 'I salute to you for this performance and I didn't know that you were so flexible and you know classical dance very well at this age, especially all the mudras were perfect in the show.

Gondhal Act
If Massakali girls are giving impressive performances then Mastkalander boys are also giving tough competition as recently Akkshat did a mind blowing act of Marathi folk dance- Godhal. The actor was so energetic in this act that he left everyone speechless.Vaibhavi was so impressed that she just bowed down to Akkshat for the fact that he brought such high energy in this performance.

Mother's day special
Who says emotions are the domain of the fairer sex as the Mastkalandars with their act as a dedication to their mothers on the Mothers' Day left merchant speechless. She was in awe of the act and felt short of words to describe the act. The choreographer was charmed by Siddhesh's performance in particular, who had slipped while performing a stunt in the act. But that didn't deter him a wee-bit and he joined his boy-gang in a matter of seconds. The lady felt that the lad is completely dedicated and passionate about dancing. She also felt that the boys were in complete co-ordination and synchronisation.

Karan Kundra is a destiny's child

Karan Kundra has got a broken thumb, but that doesn't stop him from dancing in Zara Nachke Dikha. This injury is a small one for the actor, who has survived 13 accidents over the years! The most serious was when he was in college and he'd bought a new car. Without informing him, the mechanic had changed the tyres and Karan was speeding at 140 kmph. As he stepped on the brake, the car didn't stop and eventually he ended up crashing at high speed. The car was damaged badly, but he escaped and miraculously didn't suffer any fracture or injuries! Lucky guy, we must say. But, you got to be more careful in life Karan.

Best buddies in the Mastkalander team

STAR Plus' weekend dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha is getting more popular among the audiences but at the same time, some great friendship is also growing among the actors as well, as now some actors have become best buddies like Karan Kundra - Angad Hasija - Sushant Singh Rajput.

About their new friendship Angad Hasija said, "Karan is a little monster and we have a blast on the sets. We share a kind of Punjabi connection as I am from Chandigarh and he is from Ludhiaina and we are always up to something. We never seem to rest and are constantly up to something naughty. We both practice together and share our lunch as well."

Later on we spoke to Karan Kundra who said, "I am friendly with all but I have developed a special bond with Sushant Singh Rajput and Angad Hasija. I knew Sushant already because we had met at Balaji house and then at some parties, while my friendship with Angad has recently developed and now it is growing with full strength."

Then we spoke with Sushant Singh Rajput, "I just want to thank Karan for all his support and love, when I was admitted in the hospital recently. Now we are the best buddies in the TV industry and I am proud of Karan Kundra," he added.

So watch this new friendship of TV stars only on STAR Plus' Zara Nachke Dikha every weekend at 9 pm.
