Shyamala Akka, I knew you would turn your attention to Yudh. Watched most of the first episode for AB. He's still got it. But if you need to watch and re-watch can you imagine my plight? Still, AB is quite watchable. The way he owns not just the character but the desk he sits at, the bed he sleeps in, the mirror he looks in ... I so agree with your review of the first episode.
Enjoy your reviews of later episodes even if I didn't watch. Keep writing!

Very sorry, my dear Ela; I will get it out Sunday morning for you to read after breakfast. I wanted to watch the episode once more, as I find it necessary if I am not to make bloomers, and there were too many guests on Friday and it is the same today. My mother is a severe cardiac patient, and with that and other unavoidables, I find that the only time I can really have for myself is from 10 am to 1 pm or so.

Ah! How lovely it feels to be missed!

Episode 3: The plot thickens and the pace hastens. The first episode I thought was dragging for 2 hrs. The second an hour, but the third got over in no time. I think epi 20 is going to be a cracker of sorts, with many knots untied...hence the 1 hour slot.
It was heart tugging to watch a blissfully unaware Rishi happily play cricket with the local boys... ...knowing the dangers that await him.

Fat chance I have of minding anything, you imp!

You have plenty of time to comment on any number of JA threads - I looked thru the forum last night after weeks - do you do that without watching the episodes at all? You fibber, the fact is that all of you LIKE Jodha Akbar, regardless of what they dish out, and I cannot get you to watch and comment on an intelligent, complex and demanding serial of just 20 episodes! You would be well served if Mahachuchak's Incredible Hulk carried you off, Lashykanna, instead of, as I am told, Jodha Begum!😉

Ok, Varsha my dear, here goes ad seriatim.

1) Ranjan is Nayantara's real brother. Their father was a prince of some sort, and also a feudal politician. He fell from power because he could not abandon his feudal ways and accept the so-called chhote log as his equals. It is not yet clear what Ranjan went to jail for, but it was for 11 years. Maybe forgery or misappropriation or something of that kind. He bears a massive grudge against Yudh, who he feels could and should have kept him out of jail but would not exert himself to that end.Yudh detests Ranjan. Rishi is fond of his mama. Ranjan's wife is a sweet and straightforward person.

2) Gauri was Yudh's first wife, and they got divorced because she could not live with his harddriving quest for success and power and his workaholism. Normally, Nayantara, the daughter of that princely politician whom Yudh then married for practical reasons, should have known about Taruni, for it is not as so she is illegitmate and thus a shameful secret! I do not know why then she is shown being so rude to Taruni in the precap on Thursday.

3) Gauri, after her divorce, where she opted to keep their daughter Taruni, married Jeet, who is now a Vigilance Officer probing fiscal and and other illegal activities. He has now been ordered to launch an investigation against Yudh's mentor and senior associate, Gautam Dev, for something illegal he did a long time ago. As I had written in this very post about precisely this point:

That this enquiry is politically motivated is a given, and it would clearly never have been launched now but for the opportunity to drag Yudh too into the matter. This new blow, one more source of tension for the already beleaguered Yudh, was reminiscent of the way in which the US Internal Revenue Service was often used by Presidents like Richard Nixon to settle scores with their enemies. I am sure there must be any number of such examples from Europe and the UK as well.

We have to see how the personal angle, that Jeet is now the husband of Yudh's former lover Gauri, fits into this scenario as the series progresses.

4) As for the Joker, as I had discussed in my second post,

Last but definitely not the least, Yudh's repeated encounters with the Joker, clearly a projection of his own subconscious, who thus articulates Yudh's innermost fears, the ones he does not dare to dredge up and face in the light of day.

Thus the Joker appears mostly in Yudh's dreams, which is where the demons lurking in the subconscious mind rear their ugly heads, or when he is dropping off to sleep in Dr. Ganatra's clinic after taking that mild narcotic. The time when he is seen at the press conference, it is a fleeting and insubstantial appearance.

So the Joker is brutally frank - about Yudh's successor issue, about his dream of a Health Sciences Institute that would die with him, about the vultures circling overhead waiting for him to die so that they can grab everything.
Of course the whole hospital wing collapse was engineered to make Yudh face an enquiry and to spoil his name. It is done by Anuj Malik to take revenge for Yudh having pointed out to the Municipal Commissioner that the flyover built by Malik's firm and inaugurated only a year ago, was defective and would not last more than 10 years. The Municipal Hospital, one wing of which was brought down, had been constructed by Shanti Constructions, Yudh's firm, which is why Anuj Malik chose that one.

There, was that useful? Watch each episode a second time, and you will soon be clear about everything.

Shyamala Aunty

I seem to always love your writings far more than a serial's actual episodes.😆
Superb analysis.👏
