Thanks a lot; I am glad you liked these posts. I am sure the series will hold you in thrall. And no American TV series would have had a leading man of the stature and talent of Amitabh Bachchan!

Der aaye, durust aaye, and in any case there is a whole bunch of even worse no shows jinke kaan to main barabar khinchnewali hoon! Now that you are here, my dear, do stay the course,. and you will be glad you did!

Shyamala Aunty

Aunty ... absolutely no man can replace amitabh's acting ...!! hez the god ⭐️ !!! Ofcourse I am here & will stay ... 😳

btw this para " I knew that it was all make believe, and yet the breath caught in my throat and I almost reached out to him. The scene, and the earlier one on Monday night in the collapsing hospital wing when he is no longer able to push the patient in the trolley, reminded me of Majboor in 1976(?), when Amitabh's Ravi, carrying a goldfish bowl, suffers a sudden brain seizure. Those of you who have seen that magisterial take will understand what I mean."

I can relate to you aunty ... becoz just few days back I was watching majboor on zee cinema ... so i could feel the anxiety ... man what an acting !!👏 ... can we ever get enough of this man & his movies aunty 😳 ... he is insatiable though he is in his 70's ☺️

I am ought to watch yudh on desitv forum ... will catch up with the pace of your posts ... 😛

My dear Shaina,

If your prediction is correct, it would be both plausible and reassuring. Only, it would not explain how it is that Jeet has no idea that Taruni is Yudh's daughter.

But yes, Yudh and Gauri are still tied emotionally to each other, and yes, Taruni is a child born of their love.

Shyamala B.Cowsik

I think Jeet knows Taruni is not his daughter but he probably does not know that Yudh is her father!!!!

I loved the scene and anand' s expressions when mamu asked for money and he said family naam ki bhi koi cheez hoti hai. ..apart from the dynamite amitji the supporting cast is no less, they are bang on with their expressions and shyamala as u mentioned about the scene where yudh is put to sleep by the doctor amitji's expressions and how the voice is changed was to die for! Brilliant!

My dear,

This is a very perceptive and intelligent take on Yudh till now, and it gladdened my heart. I am sure the rest of our journey with them all will be just as rewarding.

What I hope is that Yudh gathers a decent viewership, if only by word of mouth - and I am doing my best to help out with that! - recovers its cost and makes a decent profit. That way, it can blaze a trail for intelligent TV in India that others can follow.

Shyamala Aunty

Thank you aunty😳
Aunty, I am sure that Sony decided to produce this for a niche audience. I second what you have said. I hope it does well given that the storyline and treatment remains on track.

The others: minor delights: It is proof positive of the excellence of the screenplay and the direction, not to speak of the cast selection, that even faced with the overpowering presence of Amitabh Bachchan's Yudh, many of the other characters still manage to make their presence felt, and I am not referring to Anand, who is a lynchpin in the narrative.

-There is the Municipal Commissioner, remarking wickedly to Yudh that when the Enquiry Committee on the hospital collapse got to work, Kisi ka gardan to pakadna padega.. and gesturing to towards his own neck brace.. aur yeh to available nahin hai.. He is decidedly grey, taking bribes from and colluding with the Maliks, and not discouraging the headstrong Anuj Malik in his plans against Yudh, and yet he has genuine respect and admiration for Yudhishtir Shikarwar's professional capability and integrity.

- There is Ranjan, the old reprobate, who wants to cash in on his having recognized the three goons who had planted the bomb in the hospital wing. He does not want to be relegated to the job of supervisor of the Shanti Constructions guest house; he would see it as decidedly beneath him.

Incidentally, the way in which his sister tries some high pressure sales talk to get him to accept the offer was delightful!

But most fascinating of all, Ranjan is clearly his father's son, with the same inchoate rage against the fate that has made him, a ruler born to the purple, a beggar at his jeejaji's door. This surfaces unexpectedly as he sneers at Anand for being Yudh's chamcha, and tells him to keep his advice about family values to himself.

-Nayantara herself, a typical housewife, is still remarkably sharp and practical in her advice to her son, the weak and ineffectual Rishi, to stay aloof from his mama Ranjan and not be sucked into bad company with him. She says as much, very bluntly, to Ranjan to his face, and in fact uses the job he wants so badly as a carrot to get him to leave Rishi alone.

The mystery Santa Claus: He now has a face, thanks to Mona, and the fact that he did not wear a mask when he handed over the CD to her means that he wanted to be found out.

The questions which Yudh does not ask himself are these: How did this man get this CD made? That he did means he must have been privy to Anuj Malik's plans, and to his instructions to his hireling goons. That in turn means that he must be either an insider in the Malik family, or an insider in the gang Anuj Malik hires for this job. In either case, why does he break ranks with his family, or his gang members, and alert Yudh in time about the hospital collapse? Which, in fact, is what Yudh seems to be asking him in the precap.

Let us wait and watch.

Lovely analysis as always...I especially loved this particular bit quoted above...for the same struck me as I watched this episode...despite the towering presence of AB, the supporting cast holds its own...well sketched and well enacted...they hold you in their scenes...K.K. Menon toh seems born to play these slimeball corrupt roles😆...then Anand and the Mamaji...their scene in the hospital was quite interesting to me...even Nayantara is not boring despite seeming like the oblivious nagging housewife on the surface.

The Joker bits were the most hard hitting and eerie for me to watch...ofcourse he is a manifestation of Yudh's darkest fears...the fear of death, the fear that his legacy would be squandered, ruined, all that he has spent a lifetime building would crumble once he's gone...two scenes in particular stand out...one when the Joker confronts him in the hospital about finding his own "gaana" or song...I think that was metaphorical in nature and Yudh's subconscience telling him to find himself, to DEFINE himself yet again...and the second was the dream scene where the Joker frankly talks to him about what his deepest fears are regarding his legacy.

They've given the Joker a somewhat garbled, totla Bihari accent...it's simultaneously eerie and intriguing...the actor playing him brings about the right amount of creepiness.

It seems Anand's son is differently abled, possibly autistic...I like how the lives of the supporting characters are also unfolding in an intriguing manner...

The screenplay and direction is so tight that every character intrigues...I don't feel like forwarding even a moment...which is more than I can say for most shows I've watched...lol

And I like that they are following a series format and wrapping the show up in like a month and a half with a Mon-Fri airing...I don't really expect much in the way of TRPs since as you said this is dark/grey material...but to me it is REALLY fascinating to watch...I honestly didn't even find the YRF shows this compelling to watch...found them a bit dry intermittently...but Yudh so far holds my attention really well...I like the cat and mouse games going on between the various characters or at present the central conflict b/w Yudh and the other construction company/the commissioner...and the mystery Santa Claus as you mentioned...seemingly helping Yudh for now but seems to have a bigger motive for doing all this...the mystery element works for me.

Your write up and in depth analysis of a show and its characters are always class apart Shyamala aunty.😊
I think Yudh maybe like some fine wine and not even chocolate (not everybody likes wine). The pace was excruciatingly slow. Too many moments of silence in between.

I do not like excessive background music, camera swishes etc, but did not imagine it would be *this* slow paced!😲

No one has impressed me yet except Mr Bachchan and Kay Kay Menon. They just light up the screen.

Dialogues are very good. But too much time passes by till someone has said something.

I have been watching Yudh out of curiosity, appreciate Amitabh Bachchan's brooding character but I find myself struggling to keep patient.

I feel the makers have been rather too indulgent.

I'm afraid Yudh is not working for me.😕

Mandy, I am sure Boss did not have a male lead of the calibre of Amitabh Bachchan!

See my post on Episode 3 that is going to be up in a minute.
