Hi,

Post the leap I thought the story had taken somewhat an unexpected turn. Seemingly, it had somewhat forgotten the drama surrounding Badnam Gali. The situations didn't revolve around the concept of what it means to hail from a brothel.

I had somewhat expected Puchki to remain in the brothel, but be that one girl who cannot be tamed and didn't give into prostitution. The promos of the show at the start had given this idea. Where Puchki runs to see Shan and says something like "you have come to take me? I feel it would have been a more interesting story telling this way. But, none of this happened.

Instead, Puchki is out of the brothel and has progressed into a career and is a lady with bravery and courage. Regardless my expectation, this was a nice development. I cannot deny this. Shan was away and the whole story somewhat had turned about the Majumdars. If we see it from Shan's mother's perspective, the story has become about her hiding what she has done with Arindam. The stigma's associated with Badnam Gali has disappeared entirely. This seemed like the show had gone elsewhere with the meaning of Yeh Teri Galiyan...

Until I saw the promo for 2 hours special episode upcoming today. It refers to a storyline ahead, where the situation has turned into a matter of Puchki's background. Where she is from and what is her social worth.

This is obviously coming back to the plot. Something I am pleased to see. Somehow it seems like prostitution is morally degrading. But, in one way it is a type of employment. It brings people money. Without this many people would probably starve to death, resort to stealing and so on. There is a positive aspect to it. Also, just because one is into prostitution does not mean he or she cannot be a good human being. Cannot be a good person, a good friend, a good wife or a husband. It is never clear how from escorting or sleeping with several people for money automatically means one cannot be good in other social roles.

On the other hand, Puchki is Asmita now. She has rechristened herself and renamed herself. Asmita is only Puchki when she takes herself to be and thinks of herself as Shan's bondhu. Just like Shan is no longer a boy from Badnam Gali because he has not lived for many years and has lived with the Majumdar's, Asmita cannot be associated with Badnam Gali because she has not been living there either. Perhaps, Asmita can argue this. Then again, I feel like Asmita will keep her job role a secret because she needs to bring the truth out about Arindam and what his wife has been up to for many years.

How will Asmita who is thrown out because of her past identity as Puchki face her circumstances? It is unlikely the makers will show her as weak and helpless. Puchki was always brave and Asmita has been too. She cannot let this go down easy. Do you think she will make references to Shan's background too and showcase the discrimination occurring between sexes. A woman from a brothel is far worse than a man from a brothel? Could the creatives rely on Arindam's act of going to one and pregnating a prostitute? Could it echo what Badi Maa had one said, people come here and do the dirty, but we have to bear the shame. I think I'm back on the ball now because with shows there's always opportunity to utilise a scene or two and pass on a social message. Prostitutes are not void of their due respect as a person - a human being - because of their job. Second, perhaps the creatives can highlight the problems a lot of women face related to this area. A lot of women are there by not choice. They were either sold of or left alone by others and how once they are in it, it is very hard to leave. So, there's lots of ways to take this plot related to prostitution.

Hopefully, this show will exceed my expectations. I am back on the game now with the show coming back to Badnam Gali.

Kind Regards,
Ibby

Thank you. I just hope it will not be exhausted by the creatives.

Even if spineless Shan denies to accept her as his wife and kicks her out, puchki still has her hukum-ka-ikka left that Shan doesn't know about and only dadibua does; her legal status as his wife. She can drop this bomb on them all to re-enter as his legal wife and be able to keep an eye on nivi and get evidence on her whilst still hiding her cop avatar.

I didn't think of this when I was writing. This actually makes me even more excited. There's always this peculiar feeling of viewing leading ladies come back and rely on their new powers. I can't wait to see Asmita drop the bomb. I feel like that is exactly what is going to happen. But, I still want references to the stigma of Badnam Gali though.

I have a few words on this issue, to be honest. Like you mentioned, prostitution is usually viewed as a bad profession to be in but there are breadwinners. I also hope that Puchki sheds some light onto this issues because people are either forced into this job for a reason or do it willingly.

Yep! He only knows that actually he married asmita at mandap but he only denies to accept it because in front of everybody ridoy was there seemingly completing the marriage rituals with asmita. However, he doesn't know that the marriage papers filed in court are in his and puchki's name together and husband and wife, so legally they are both husband and wife as well as on religious grounds too.

I also hope too like you said that asmita fires back at shan with his hypocritical views of her and the badnam gali, reminding him he also belongs there and he spend just as much time there as she did, and just like him she also spend most of her life away from there, so how is he any different from her.

I hope there is a scene where he has the nerve to belitle her by saying who or what is she, comparing her to him being a business man, where she then fires back at him calmly by retorting that he was handed all this on a plate, he didn't earn it, whilst whatever she has earned for herself. Shan like the majumdar snob he is says what did you earn, job of a dance teacher? She simply answers saying that and far much more, but that bomb she will drop on them another time, just like she just dropped the bomb of being shan's legal wife, and they all become curious with what else puchki is hiding.

I am pretty confident that Shan doesn't actually mean what he said in the promo. If you guys have noticed, Shan has deliberately been shown to admire all of Puchki's qualities as a friend, wife, and daughter-in-law ever since the wedding took place. I am sure we could make a list of all the instances: some are subtle while some are more obvious.(i.e. her first rasoi at the dining table, at the time of the virginity test, at the time when she speaks the press about the importance of education, her saving Paro's child despite thinking it's Shan's, & many more moments in which she has shown her unconditional love and support for him). Shan has consciously said that he is unlucky for having lost Puchki and that he is undeserving of her love and friendship, while he has unconsciously admitted that he is happy to have a wife like Puchki.

The first time Shan said that a girl from the badnam galliyan can't become a bahu, it was mainly to keep Asmita away from Ridoy, discouraging her with harsh words that he regretted saying almost immediately afterwards. While his love for Asmita was one of the reasons for his behavior at the time, another reason was that Shan knew Asmita would never be accepted for who she truly is so he wanted her leave before the truth came out and she is targeted/humiliated directly. At that point, he might have slightly believed in those words because neither had he realized his love nor had he married her, so he was unaware of what kind of bahu Asmita would make.. In fact, Shan was grappling between the Majumdar family's teachings and his own beliefs at the time. However, Shan can now clearly see that Asmita makes a much better bahu than Paro (the so-called rich & sophisticated bahu) in every way. Asmita is also appreciated and liked much more by someone like RM, even though the she is believed to be from a lower social status than Paro. (Of course, we know that this admiration is going to change to hatred/disgust as soon as the Sonagachi background is revealed but that's a discussion for another time).

Shan and Asmita's only points of disagreement at the moment are regarding Nivi and their marriage truth. However, Shan no longer thinks that Puchki is doing what she is doing to take revenge. Rather, he believes she is mistaken. This is a huge improvement, along with the deal that both struck regarding Nivi's exposure. The fact that Shan has promised to do whatever Asmita wants if she exposes Nivi is progress because he is willing to look at and believe in solid evidence.
Therefore, what Shan is doing in the promo is only because he wants to give the Majumdar family the impression that he didn't know Asmita is Puchki all along. The decision to oust Asmita is most likely the family's and he is going through with it. Though Shan's actions are heartbreaking to witness for us viewers and what he has done is a selfish act of saving his skin, it is actually the best way for the story to proceed and is in line with Shan's character outline. Because Shan has made his adopted family believe that he hates his Puchki, his Chanda ma, and all people from Sonagachi in all of these years, it makes perfect sense that he chooses to continue with the facade out of loyalty, helplessness, or whatever XYZ reasons he may have.

As some have suggested, Asmita can now claim her legal rights and force her way in to the Majumdar house while still keeping her police identity under wraps to proceed with the mission. At the same time, Shan refusing to acknowledge Puchki will not provoke the villains to the extent that giving her the position of his wife would. (Remember all the plotting that was done to break Shantanu and Puchki's friendship during their childhood!)

As a result, Shan behaving harshly in front of all can be beneficial because villains like Beauty and Nivi might end up underestimating Asmita, thinking that she does not pose a big enough threat because Shan supposedly hates her. I'm still waiting to see everything play out, and hopefully things get back on track now. I can't wait until Nivi's exposure comes along and I have my fingers crossed that the CVs end up showing that Shan is unable to maintain the facade of hating Puchki in front of the family, and I genuinely hope that there is a redemption track for lined up soon.

BOLD: He should say that definitely in anger & realize whatever he said was in anger.
From personal experience, there are people who will continue to taunt about the dance/dance teacher as a profession. As a dance instructor myself, I've faced criticism from people, whether it was a mere joke or real. But, that is one of the jobs which paid for several of my expenses & most students do enjoy learning it with time. I wish that they show that dance is also a good profession to be in because the negative stereotype stems from one's perception.

Well said Ibby. Many of us got attracted to the show for the badnaam gali. Post leap it had gone totally out of its roots, now it is good we will be getting what we wanted to see. Hopefully the story will come back to its previous glory, I know many members are in the sidelines irritated with the way the story has shaped up till now after the leap. With the return of badnaam gali hope all the old FMs' come back to the forum too.
