Unpopular opinion here: But I find Kuhu's character the most relatable in this show. She is really human, and whether or not the general audiences like her for being so true to real life, I appreciate the character for all its complexities, spontaneity & reality. This is 'cause I belive there is no black & white; just varied shades of grey in our lives. Kuhu is very much that way & her relationship with every character should be explored beyond the bare minimum scenes the character gets.
They have really good actors for parallel leads & good ones for supporting characters too.
For instance, Varsha has taken in her husband Shaurya's daughter with another woman into her household & is treating her as her own. Not like mishti who's constantly meted out very subtle step-treatment. They could explore Shaurya-Varsha dynamics with this angle in focus as they were a very solid couple in the parent show & now have a child from outside between them. How does Shaurya feel for what Varsha has done for him, his daughter & for the family? Have Shaurya-Varsha really gone back to what they were before this incident, or are there still thin walls between them that may show up from time to time?
But very sadly, I can only write these essays, nothing more would come out of this. ITV never seems to develop stories where more than 2-3 characters are in focus. They prolly don't know how to write the screenplay where EACH character has his/her own story.
I used to watch Kaira in yrkkh for their initial 7-8 months. The characters of Kaira were then totally changed & butchered beyond repair that I totally stopped watching. They were initially very good but later the writers focused everything on Kaira & destroyed their essence. That happened due to lack of side stories and plotlines involving all other characters which were very interesting but were ignored. The fandom was very toxic & arrogant & refused to give space to the makers to show the other characters. Show's still on as yrkkh has become a habit for trp audience in India & maybe due to the chemistry, which by the way, now looks forced & cringey without any sense in the story. I can't believe I'm saying this about Kaira as they were too good when they started but within 10 months they were butchered.
Thankfully, mishbir's characters have largely remained the same & I hope it continues for some more time. For all my rant above, this show is really very good & maybe the only sensible one out there now. They do have an idea & basic story in mind - that girls need to be given the freedom of choice, the respect, & the space that they so rightfully deserve. This is very very appreciable in the face of all the nonsense on ITV today where makers don't have a set theme / idea & even if they do, it all goes haywire very soon. This show completes 1 year next month & still makes some sense & is much better than all the others currently on TV. Mishti has very well brought out the aspect of empowerment in making choices right from saying no for goddhana with kunal to declaring she loves abir in yesterday's episode. I hope she remains this way & never becomes the mahan all-sacrificing female lead. And let Abir remain the perfect role model for a man that he is. Let mishbir also focus on their careers, along with KuKu on their office/business issues.
I also hope to see the other "rishtey" in "yeh rishtey hain pyaar ke"; only putting all this out here because this team has the potential.
DKP cast & crew made the initial part of yrkkh back in 2009-10-11 really good with stories focusing on all the characters; it used to run during childhood & I think it was engaging all of its characters. Hope they can bring that skill back in the creative department.
And really very sorry for such a long imposition. Please pardon 🙏
I agree with you! Kuhu is the most relatable character. She is good, mean, selfish and practical. Though she faced so much in her married life she tried to bring MishBir together to save her brother from a loveless marriage. She's a good daughter, daughter in law (Rajvansh's love her except Kunal 😵), good sister, good bro but she has her flaws too which is perfectly normal for any human being. Wish they showed more of her and her story and not focus only on a couple of characters.
