One-sided love has been explored in Indian cinema in all of its forms. No one needs consent to have feelings for someone; they do need consent for realizing those feelings. Abhi asked for consent, he asked if she still loved him, and she said no, and he dropped it. He can't control his feelings, but his actions itself seem pretty controlled. The point they are trying to show is that he still loves her but has built the Mrs. Shrama barrier, so he doesn't do or say anything to disrespect that.
And yeah...I am sure he would have flown off the handle if some guy like him was after Ak. That's a normal response.
He is who he is, and Nav is who he is, and we all know some people like Abhi and some people like Nav.
