Swarna is to blame. She is the biggest catalyst and reason for naira deciding that divorce is the only solution when swarna was never going to forgive her and she heard karthik say to swarna that he chooses her over naira.
Naira thought that after two years of waiting and putting up with accusations, there was no scope of her being forgiven and taken back by karthik because of swarna's ego and hatred, and because karthik failed to stand up to swarna to fight with her for what he really wanted, which was to have naira back in his life.
Even if naira hadn't given the divorce, all she would be able to do then was either keep waiting like she had been for swarna's forgiveness or for karthik to speak to swarna, which given his behavior he wasn't going to, or keep grovelling and begging karthik-swarna to listen to her side of the story, which they wouldn't have as they would not even let her get a word in by continuously screaming at her and accusing her.
So regardless of whether naira was the one to give the divorce papers first, it doesn't change the fact that kaira getting back together would only be possible if either karthik stood up for his wife and put his foot down to get naira back in the house, or if swarna just got the hell over shubham's death and forgave naira, or if one of the goenka's finally had enough and just brought naira back in the house by standing up to swarna.
Naira is the one constantly being accused without being given a chance to speak, naira was the one slapped and thrown out of her house, naira was the one whose husband gave up on her by not contacting her once, and she was the one who was heartbroken and disappointed at her in-laws and husband failing to trust her or understand. For this reason, it was karthik's responsibility as a husband to stand up for naira and not let his mother take the decision that naira isn't allowed back in her husband's house or life, it was swarna's responsibility to give her daughter-in-law a chance to explain her side of the story and to try to patch her son and DIL up instead of ordering and/or emotionally blackmailing her son to stay away from his wife. It was also the responsibility of the other goenka's to ignore swarna's unreasonable behaviour and get naira back in the house.
The solution wouldn't be as simple as naira deciding she wants to get back to karthik and begging him to take her back after the way he has treated her, because she has been wronged by karthik, and by begging him to take her back and forgive her, he would never realise where he has wronged her, also karthik would not take her back because of swarna, and swarna wouldn't forgive her. So naira isn't the cause of their divorce/ separation, and neither is she a hindrance in their reunion. It is karthik's spineless and cowardly attitude as well as his inability to listen to naira and hear her out, as well as swarna's selfish attitude that is stopping kaira from getting back together whether naira decided to divorce karthik or not, or whether she decided she wanted to get back with him or not.
Karthik and the goenka's have given all the leverage to determine the future of kaira's relationship to swarna, because they are too cowardly to stand up to her and her maa-ka-dard emotional blackmailing behaviour. That's why karthik silently let his realtionship with naira fall apart just to please maa-ka-dard, and goenka's are too sympathetic towards maa-ka-dard to go against her to save kaira relationship.
