I agree with u Anjali and all the points u mentioned..but we must understand that this is not the universal truth ! actually this truth varies from person to person........a working woman, a married working woman, a housewife, a working mother, each have their own set of problems...yrkkh is a story of just one family..whether we relate to the characters or not depends on our own surroundings...
see i agree young minds are influenced but at the end of the day, we must know where to draw the line ..reality is reality which everybody has to face..and fiction is fiction & it should be taken that way...if we say that tv soaps influence us then what about other mediums? we share our thoughts with our family, friends..we have TV, we have bollywood, we have International TV channels at our disposal.........the ladies gossip everyday , we hear all kinds of diff. stories frm diff. ppl. about their experiences of married life, they also can influence our thoughts in some way ...but then if we don't filter that info, then tht's our fault....our society in India is progressing......and a tv show can't take us back to the stone age..if they can influence us that much, the fault lies in our thinking...
Charu, you and I and all of us here on the forum are fortunate to be mature, educated women who can "filter" through stuff...we do not internalize daddi's pravachans, or Akshara's tears, or Varsha's illogical thoughts...BUT, in India and around the world, there are millions of young women out there who are so sheltered and watch these type of shows (and may not be able to FF the crappy parts), who are very much affected by what is shown EVERYDAY. They are my concern...I am sure there is a 16 year old out there in the real world who has watched Akshara's "khamoshi ki bhasha" and thought that the boy who she has a crush on will understand her own "khamoshi ki bhasha."
Out of the 9 main female characters on this show, why can't one be shown as having some sort of a backbone, education, and able to speak her mind? And if and when a character does speak her mind, why is it with a whole bucket of tears? I am sorry to say but when it comes to a "social message" for women, this show is taking us back to the stone age...there is absolutely NOTHING positive in how women and their role is portrayed in this serial so far...I don't watch any other Indian TV shows so I can't speak for them...This show is so successful; why not use that success as a platform to show some female empowerment...I do hope they make Akshara and Varsha's characters stronger and more independent as we move forward...
