Continuing here Mahi..
Yess, those 4 stalwarts of Hindi Literature ! Such a delight to have read their works.

Absolutely!😳

Orlando was love! His fight with the lioness and also his fight with Charles (the wrestler) early on in the play were real high points in the context of the story.

Yeah I remember!😃

Really ? I never knew about the ambiguity surrounding the title 'Merchant of Venice'. Just like you,I too would love to feel Shylock there. He was such a brilliantly penned character. Such a powerful character indeed! I love Portia to the core. There is a certain element of charm about her which makes her one of my favorite Shakespearean characters.

It was, but only theories of critics. Portia is one of the best written female leads ever. In power only lady Macbeth can match her level!

Bingo ! I lovvveee Julius Caesar as well as Macbeth. Particularly Macbeth. Psychological thriller-so true! It highlights the damaging psychological impact of political ambition on those who seek power for themselves. The declaration by those 3 witches that Macbeth would be 'King of Scotland' one day was the starting point of Macbeth's destruction. And he then went on a killing spree :( However, even here the most intriguing character was a female-Lady Macbeth. She was fiercely ambitious and drove Macbeth to kill King Duncan.

Ikr! The prophecy spoiled his loyalty, life and spirit. So much for power!
Lady Macbeth was indeed a very powerful, complex character! I love that scene when she convinced him to kill the king when he's at their residence. And the poor servant got trapped.
Not to forget, the classically done hallucinations after that!

JC is an all-time classic. I wanted to know from you. How do you assess Brutus? I mean, being Caesar's best friend, how do you see his decision of going ahead with Caesar's assassination ? It is true that Brutus had Rome's best interests in mind but still, killing Caesar ? Its one of the great literary conundrums of all time and would love to know your opinion on it.

Brutus is the perfect example of conflict and poor decision making skills. On one hand, he was the only one thinking Rome's good while on the other, he gave in to speculations of jealous people. He had fallen into bad company, took an awful stance, though with a good intention. He teaches us you cannot take stands based on something that can happen. When Mark reads out Caesar's will, he was devastated. I don't really dislike him, but I only wish he'd acted wisely. I love the interaction between him & Caesar's ghost.
Caesar was destined to die somehow. It's ominous from the very start. So I don't blame Brutus for killing him but as I said, I wish he'd taken a better decision.

I love King Lear as well. Makes me emotional everytime I read it. The way Goneril and Regan treated their father makes my blood boil 😡 And poor Cordelia-the one who loved Lear truly had to face so much in life😭

I've roughly read KL. I know it's a tragedy where he gets separated with his wife, right?😆

I'm loving this. Over to you buddy..😆

Loving it too!😳😳

Cent percent true! Portia is an extraordinary character. A work of pure genius. Lady Macbeth was a dynamite!

Lady Macbeth is amongst the most layered of characters. She was fiercely ambitious and ruthless, and while she and Macbeth did achieve momentary success when they killed Duncan, she had a terrible end. The guilt of the heinous crimes they had committed eventually consumed her.

Yes,the poor servant..😭

That's one of the best analysis I've read on Brutus..👏
Indeed,a wise man who acted hastily. Brutus was totally selfless when it came to Rome's interests but the beauty of Shakespeare's writing teaches us that mere selflessness cannot always guide a man to take correct and rational decisions. He should have acted more wisely. 100% correct. Brutus was another brilliant character. Selfless to the core but he eventually had a miserable end. Another beautifully written character though!

I love King Lear as well. Makes me emotional everytime I read it. The way Goneril and Regan treated their father makes my blood boil 😡 And poor Cordelia-the one who loved Lear truly had to face so much in life😭

Its a bit different actually. When King Lear was ageing,he decided to split his kingdom amongst his 3 daughters-Goneril,Regan and Cordelia(the youngest of the three). He asks each of them to tell him as to how much they love him. Goneril and Regan were selfish and they profusely praised their father in their greed of acquiring the kingdom's share. They never loved him truly. When it was Cordelia's turn, she simply said that she loved him as much as she should-neither less nor more. That was an honest answer and Cordelia truly loved her father. But Lear had been so flattered by Goneril and Regan's monumental praises for him that he wasn't happy with Cordelia's simple and straightforward reply. In a fit of anger,he threw her out and divided her share of the kingdom amongst the 2 elder daughters. After a while,Lear decides that he would stay alternately with his daughters-Goneril and Regan. So he goes to stay with them but is ill-treated badly by Goneril and Regan. Lear eventually suffers a painful death. Just before his death,he comes to know about Cordelia's death and he's left totally shattered at the death of his dear daughter who loved him truly but he had misunderstood her. Eventually,he dies a painful death.

I'm loving this. Over to you buddy..😆

Loving it too!😳😳
