It's raining romantic dramas on TV, and the latest mushy show to hit the TV screens is Yeh Pyaar Nahi Toh Kya Hai, a modern age love story which focuses on the relationship scenario of the current generation. The show stars Namit Khanna, Palak Jain and Manish Choudhry in key roles and revolves around the love story of Siddhant Sinha (Namit Khanna) and Anushka Reddy (Palak Jain).
Palak Jain, who makes her debut with the show, spoke to us about her role.
"The character I am playing is called Anushka Reddy. She belongs to the richest family in Delhi, she has got everything in life that anybody could ever dream of, yet she is very down to earth and doesn't take anything for granted. She is family oriented and believes in working hard, and doesn't take advantage of her father's status or achievements. She would rather start from scratch and achieve her own things."
The soap will showcase the modern day relationships that are short-sighted and half-baked.
"This love story targets the youth of today. They are so lost in their lives and career that somewhere down the line emotions are lost. It reflects in their relationships also that are suffering because of this as they prefer to break up rather than communicating and resolving things," she said.
Palak is paired opposite Namit Khanna, who last got the love of viewers in web series Twisted, wherein he worked alongside Nia Sharma.
"It's good to work with Namit Khanna. He has faced the camera before, has a fan following. He helps me out as far as script is concerned. And there is a chemistry between us and it's important because it's a love story. I am glad to have worked with somebody who already has experience in this field," she said.
There is already a Palak Jain in TV industry who has worked in shows like Kahin Kisi Roz, The Buddy Project, Ek Duuje Ke Vaste and most recently Laado 2.
"There is a Palak Jain who has done a lot more work than me. But I have a very lovely name and I don't want to change my name. I am sure when the show will air and people will know me, they would not have problem knowing two Palak Jains," she said.
The actress started out as a model in Delhi, but shifted to Mumbai last year to pursue her acting dreams.
"I started my journey with modelling in Delhi. It wasn't part of my plan but I started loving it. Eventually I realised I wanted to try my hands at acting and Delhi was not the place to start. I shifted to Mumbai and then started taking acting workshops and auditioning for everything--ads, shows etc. I got a call for the show as one of my pictures shot in Indian wear matched with the imagination of the writer. They felt that I fit the character. But of course, then I went through a few rounds of audition and was taken on board," the actress said.
For now, Yeh Pyar Nahi To Kya Hai would take up most of her time, but Palak plans to work in Bollywood films some day.
"Be it TV, movie or web, if a good offer comes, I will take it up. I will definitely consider Bollywood. There are dream roles I have in mind. I really admire Queen, I'm a big Deepika fan. I would like to do something like Padmaavat in future. I would like to do women-oriented roles."
