Shrenu Parikh wants to focus only on work for the next five years

From doing a few endorsements in hometown Vadodara and small roles in serials like Gulaal to carrying off her first lead role in the show Havan with aplomb, Shrenu Parikh has come a long way. And things are only getting bigger and better for this petite 20-something beauty, who "used to mimic all popular characters of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as a kid!"

Shrenu will soon be seen essaying one of the lead roles in the Byaah Hamari Bahoo Ka (BHBK). Talking of the journey so far, an elated Shrenu says, "It has been a fantastic journey and I am focusing only on work for the next five years or so. After that, I have plans of settling down but no matter what happens, no one will be able to take the actor out of me! But in future, I also want to put my educational qualification (she has completed her B Pharm from Vadodara, and had distinction throughout college life) to good use."

Asked about her role in BHBK, Shrenu says, "I play the role of Rajnibala, a soft-spoken girl belonging to a village. While she isn't well-educated, she is sweet and shares an amazing relationship with her in-laws. The show will send out a great social message. Also, it has been fun to work with the likes of Gaurav Khanna."

Shrenu, who was much appreciated for her role of Aastha in Havan, was flooded with offers post her first big break, but she chose to tread cautiously. "I got a lot of offers but most of those weren't interesting. Then, I auditioned for BHBK but never thought I would bag a lead role again! I was in the mood for a vacation but I got selected. Another great thing is that my role is vastly different from what I played in my last serial. It is fabulous to be working with J D Majethia and Rajan Shahi.

With J D sir, there is always a homely feeling - once, when I fell ill while shooting, he took extra care to ensure that I got proper rest and medicines," shares Shrenu and adds, "Havan will always remain close to my heart because it was my first big show and I learnt a lot during its making."

She has also learnt to live on her own in Mumbai. "It's not easy, but I have got used to the pace of life in Mumbai. I miss my hometown a lot and fly down whenever possible, even if it's just for a day. For the last two years, I have been forced to be in Mumbai during my birthday. But then, such things are a part and parcel of this profession," she says.

Intriguing promo catches eye
Over the last few weeks, Sony Entertainment has been airing the promos of their upcoming show Byaah Hamari Bahu Ka. Each promo ends with a question: if everything is happy between the couple and the family, then why is the daughter-in-law getting married to someone else? Sources indicate that the show's basic storyline has been borrowed from movies such as Woh Saat Din (WSD, 1983) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (HDDCS, 1999), where the husband tries to reunite his wife with her former lover. But as far as the show is concerned, it's learned from reliable insiders that the reason the wife will be married off to someone else is because her husband is found to be either homosexual or impotent.

When asked, actor Gaurav Khanna, who plays the husband in the show, says, "I don't know the reason myself. That bit comes in much later and I think it's still being written. So whether the man is impotent, homosexual, a combination of both, or something else, it's too early to comment. I can only guarantee you a funny twist to the narrative which I refuse to believe is a take on HDDCS and WSD."

Shah Rukh is better than Salman feels Gaurav Khanna!

Gaurav Khanna is back on television with Byah Hamari Bahu Ka and the actor is confident about the show. Like every other actor, Gaurav too has aspirations to be enter Bollywood but he feel that its better to be a big fish in a smaller pond (i.e. television) than being a small fish in a bigger pond (i.e. Bollywood). The actor also feels that Bollywood is not merely about having a pumped up body, it's about talent.

When asked about the same, Gaurav said, "I also want to enter Bollywood but not just for four or five days. I want to be there and play a long innings."

Talking about the Bollywood people who inspire him, he said, "I was a big fan of Salman Khan and use to idolise him as a viewer. Like every fan, I also used to like his aura and personality. Later, when I came to Mumbai and learnt the art of acting, I realised that an actor has many more aspects to himself rather than just showing off his body."

Gaurav further continued, "I felt that an actor should have his own vision, and that is when I started liking the work and style of Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan."

Does this mean the idea of acting has changed for Gaurav. Explaining the same, "My priorities as an actor have changed. First, I used to think "body bana le and you are done". But now I have realized that you should also know how to act and romance on the big screen."

Well, does this mean Gaurav finds Aamir and Shah Rukh more talented than Salman Khan?
