Sometimes, I wonder what is sony thinking exactly. It has the lowest ratings and even the highest rated shows are considered below average among other channels. More so, no other channel pulls their shows off as abruptly as sony does.
Since the ratings are always so low, why can't they just come up with some finite serials? while shows like Pehredar piya ke can appeal to the trp aunties, shows like YMMKD can cater to a niche audience. if they suddenly pull the plug on shows with low ratings in order to replace with something else, then why not just come up with a limited number episodes so it can be given a clean ending? Every show seems to be disposable to sony., an experiment which has already proven to be unsuccessful.

For YMMKD. Writers did not have a finite number of episodes in mind, otherwise they would not have opened so many tracks at the beginning. The thought process while penning down the basic plot may have been, "let's plan a buzzilion tracks and hope we can drag this show for 2 years." clearly, that backfired and now they can't even focus on each track properly. If this is indeed coming to an end, then let's hope they at least give the show a dignified exit.

With the timeline it is on, writers could have given us a beautiful love story had they planned everything with diligence and focus, we didn't need so many extra tracks and unnecessary vamps. Aru and Mukhi adjusting to each other and their sudden marriage could have provided enough [realistic] conflict. Nevertheless, the show was going pretty well until recently. Writers seem to have lost their way and despite having so many left over tracks, they keep on opening new ones. Depending on how much time is left, can they neatly wrap up each track? what should they focus on? tying up lose ends or developing Armu's relationship, which, needs work.

Some things writers could have done

  • Use Mishri as a medium to introduce Aru and mukhi, when her purpose was finished, marry her off and send her to the U.S with her NICE in laws. instead they made her in laws greedy just so they can show us track with her evil saas-sasur.which did not happen.
  • Completely cut off Arjan and Uma abuse track, in fact just cut out both of them as they serve no purpose.
  • Keep raami but get rid of laalji, she could be resentful towards mukhi for ruining her life and sending laalji to jail( to avoid loose ends, laaliji could have died in prison) it would be better than him disappearing in thin air.
  • Saanvi's track could have been a nice parralel track, along with her helping armu.
  • completely focus on Aru trying to achieve her dreams, mukhi's support and the ups and downs associated with it
  • Focus on the core premise of the show, 2 different people from different generations and different worlds making a life together, show the struggles, compromises and adjustment required.
  • reduce the infinite numbers of attacks on aru, which lead nowhere

Dharmi was necessary in order for aru and mukhi to come together but it remains to be seen where they go with her track. Even though I hate her, I think some episodes are needed, so she can own up her mistakes, grow up and take responsibility for her actions. Instead of wasting an entire track showing her plotting with raami and trying to come in between armu, show dharmi realizing how selfish she is and she is the reason for her own misery. If this is show is indeed coming to an end, then they should work on tying loose ends-not stretching tracks for silly drama or ratings(which they obviously won't get)

I cud never understand Sony's logic behind taking up a unique concept and then not giving it enough time... And it's been years and years now..
They do have money coz thy rope in costly stars every now and then to attract veiwers bt the market research team fails to grasp the audience mindset.. and current trend...

Thy try to b trendsetter bt thy shud accept that with such low daily viewership thycannot b a trendsetter, it's rare that a balika vadhu happens to a channel and propels it forward unprecedentedly..

Sony has tried lot of things... Experimented a lot wrt daily soaps in comparison to other channels and bravely too

Bt thy lack in way of story telling... Thy start. Off good but then I don't know what happens... The story just slackens..

Here ymmkd thr was no storyline to begin with... If it was for story I wudve never watched this serial... Thr usp was their leads chemistry.. thy shudve focused on working upon it weaving the story around it..

Instead thy started with absurd storyline... The strange backstory of raami and her evil plans to destroy his brother based on some tantric's guidance and planetary movements... She will further plot and destroy the leads life after mrg. Period.

To start thr love story thy brot in this Mukhi's marriage drama... Which was fine and convincing to a degree, aru's character was most relatable and appealing character... Mukhi's character shined and luked realisticdueeto eijazs sheer charm... And acting talent..

They met, mrg happened, fell in love, confessed than things went downhill...there's no story to tell Abt their love... As the romantic track didn't fetch the required trps...

all the other open tracks were already left hanging without any logical conclusion... raami, lalji, saanvi, anshul dharmi, mishri in laws, his old boots, And it conflicted with the plot of love story..

So things got really messed up and reached to point where thy didn't Know wether to follow ott drama or subtle love story.. coz neither fetched required trps..

And fans like us were left disappointed..

Now I have no expectations... Coz there's no point.. thy will do watever they can to the best ability in given time at hand.. or act according to channels whims and fancies...

So y to b disappointed further let's just watch how it goes and enjoy whatever we can...

yep...that is the problem, they don't know whether to follow subtle love story or high voltage drama.

every story needs a villain, raami as fine without the tantric baba and her sudden interest in Armu's sex life.

they could have just gone that way of subtle lovstory with doses of drama, pertaining to their story. instead they brought in laalji, arjan, tantric, anshul and now this abhay.

By God! Super post Pom and along with Vio's reply, this post needs to be sent to whoever is heading the Sony channel. It is so sad that they start of with something so interesting and then force the characters and the audience down the drain. ( a la EKDV) I still have hope for this show just because of the quality they have shown us till now. But the glaring point here is the unnecessary tracks left incomplete.

Can never forgive them for ignoring Mishri's importance in Mukhi's life. The endearing brother sister bond that got us hooked has just been erased from the storyline.

But kya karoon...still have hope of a Rakhsha bandhan scene via skype...

yeah,so much nuance was shown in the mishri-mukhi jodi but then she disappeared. Instead of having useless characters like arjan and uma, they could have kept mishri around instead.

The show isn't bad, it is far better then other serials but the loss of focus and incomplete tracks are upsetting.

Actually, the lack of thinking is so damn surprising. why even begin a show with so many tracks and characters? for god sakes, it is sony a show- it is highly likely that it will meet a premature end.
Instead plan unique show, cater to a niche audience and finish it within 100-120 episodes. with careful planning, attention to detail and fully developed narratives, this show could have succeeded. The makers did not want a finite show, although that is what it was needed to do justice to the wonderful story and even better actors. they had everything but the vision.

The core premise is that of a younger woman and an older man from different worlds falling in love; a show consisting of 100 -120 episodes is enough to tell this story, with the help of strong supporting characters like saanvi, mishri and raami. Had they stuck to focusing Armu's lovestory and realistic conflicts associated with it, it would have stayed on track but including raami, toilet track and unnecessary drama, they have lost focus. the problem is, this show does not know what it wants to be. It was perfect while it was focusing on Armu's relationship, but suddenly they wanted high voltage drama, thus losing the main essence of the show.

Pom, Vio - Your points are in tune with many of us have in our minds.
It is now a regular thing with Sony. Even most ordinary content shows keep running on channels like SP for 1 - 2 years.

Sony's approach with TV shows is like Feature films. (I feel it is due to YRF inclusion in SONY's decisions). A feature film is made for 3 hours.. it works great, does not work - OK too. Let us move on to next.

They do not think with viewers.. They have absolutely no connection with viewers, viewers from a bond with shows .. they invest their time too to make the show popular. It is not like buying one time tickets and spending 3 hours. It is day after day we give 30 minutes.
What keeps them showing Crime Petrol
What make them think that KS Show aired for whole day will keep viewers glues..

Sony should just stick to Mythology and Crime and Comedy hence forth.

Every time one show abruptly ends I take a oath of never watching a Sony show ever again in my lifetime😡 and to my regrets I keep indulging myself in Sony shows only! Sigh!😔Main toh apne payr pe kulhadi maarti hi rehti hoon😭
I don't know if the team were given any time limit to end it or just an ultimatum for TRPs..but I really want this show to remain on air yaar..this is the only entertainment I have after a stressful work day..this show puts a smile on my face.😭

Pata nai how they will give an end to the potential tracks which you mentioned..but in the end I want Aru to wear the jhumkas😒 yeah

Sony want to be on par with the top channels. Instead, they should focus on carving out their own niche.

Regardless of how much drama sony induces in their shows, it will never fetch high ratings because they don't have a solid viewership. The audience already has star plus, zee tv, and Colors for their daily entertainment, so why would they look to sony? especially when it offers nothing unique? the same ghisa pita drama does not count as innovative, every channel can come up with those.

Sony can no longer catch up to the top channels, which is why they should stop trying and cut their losses. Instead, offer the usual TRP shows, while adding couple a finite niche shows for a more discerning audience.

clearly this plan of starting new shows then ending them is not helping the channel in anyway, instead it is a turn off. In addition, they should learn to respect their audience more and not take them for fools. Everything may be business for them, a business where they start and end shows as they please but the viewers get attached. they get attached to the characters so the least they can do is, give them a good story and good ending. Perhaps, a good insight into which shows they can mess with and which show they cannot is a good place to start. YMMKD is a niche show with a unique set of audience, it does not have mass appeal and therefore, they cannot bring tantriks and rashmi sharma level nonsense and expect audiences to stick around. Peheredar piya ki, however, is a trp puller- even my mom is watching it, anything geared towards trp aunties are easy to mess around with for even more ratings.

Ditto.

Their niche shop be story telling and finite series. May be not suddenly but people will get attracted to finite series. So far only weekend shows are finite. Reporters was lovely series, started as finite, ended just when it should .. yet TRP were low. But there are viewers who will love finite series with solid content. when story is write with finite end in mind the quality and pace is far superior.
