Chapter -2
Almost lunch time and still no news of her Mangalsutra. Aru couldn't stop herself from sneaking a look at the factory entrance once more. Nope, no one from home yet. Aru sighed. Enough is enough! She had to take some action... she would call Ramiben now and if she didn't give her proper answer this time as well just like last time she called, Aru would go home. To hell with the clients who hadn't reached yet but were supposed to be here 2 hours back. She picked up her phone to call Rami ben. NO SIGNAL! HA HA HA!!What else did she expect???
Aru stomped outside the old masala factory..oops sorry not masala factory anymore, but Katara Dupatta Mills. Mukhi gave it to her as a present after they came back from Ahmedabad. He also helped her recruit workers for her business, helped her set it up here in Amboli gaon. She sometimes wondered what she did in her past life to get a husband like Mukhiji.
Mukhiji...her Mukhiji...she still couldn't believe he was hers and hers alone. She was so lucky...Why was he so good?? so generous?? so cute??? so handsome??
Yes...Handsome...So handsome that sometimes just looking at him made Aru's knees turn into jelly and butterflies fly in her tummy. All heroes fail before him. Aru wondered how come she never noticed how manly and handsome Mukhiji was before their marriage. She got to get her head examined...he was in front of her all those times and she didn't notice?? How could she not notice him??? He was simply beautiful. She quickly opened the photo album in her phone where she kept her secret stash of photos. All photos of him she had taken without him knowing. She sighed looking at the latest photo she took while he was sleeping. It was her favourite. Gosh! He is so gorgeous! Aru's tummy began to quiver as she roved her eyes through his sleeping profile. For once he looked completely relaxed no crease in his forehead...no tension... he was sleeping like a baby...so peaceful...his dark stubble ...his ever so messy hair. He needed a haircut, but truth be told she liked his hair like this; sometimes she daydreamed running her fingers through his hair...tugging them to bring his sexy mouth closer to hers. Aru shook her head. She needed to stop fantasizing about her husband and do what she came out of factory for.
She reluctantly closed the photo and turned to call Ramiben about news of her mangalsutra. Why hadn't she sent it yet?? God forbid something might happen to her jaan. She would die. *Ring**Ring**Ring* Phone uthao Ramiben, please ! Aru pleaded frustratingly.
And then she saw it happening, her heart stopped. Without thinking about the repercussions she acted. She ran and jumped in front of the tractor which was charging without any mercy. The tractor might have missed her by quarter an inch when it crashed in the factory wall. Aru stayed crouched holding Chammo close to her heart as she felt the impact of the tractor crashing in the wall behind her, its debris falling all over her and Chammo. When she stood up she was completely covered in dust and dyes. She quickly checked whether Chammo was okay or not. The poor beast looked traumatised. Behind the wall which just got crushed they used to store the dyes for her dupattas...all of which fell down with the wall...such a wastage of money...she began to count her losses.
Unbeknownst to her the whole scene was observed by a very shocked onlooker, Vijay Singh Rathode to be very specific. He arrived in India only 3 days ago against his wishes. He absolutely didn't want to be here but his father kind of forced or should we say blackmailed him to come here to inspect and take the order back with him to California to his ever bad luck. And then their manager over here, Patel told him their order of 50,000 dupattas was being prepared in a godforsaken village called Amboli. They have been travelling whole day to meet the stupid freak who decided to open his factory of dupatta so far away from the city...what a wastage of his time...and then to top it all their car got broken in the middle of nowhere. Instead of waiting in the car any longer, leaving Patel and the driver with the car, seething in anger and frustration he hopped on to a camel (yes a camel you guys read it right) the best mode of transportation in this godforsaken place and left.
But he had to admit to his utter frustration, Amboli gaon was not at all what he expected...it was rather well developed and well, beautiful. And he didn't know it himself when he started to enjoy being here...walking through its fields, its streets, meeting the down to earth village people, seeing the beautifully planned development in a village like this, the school, the hospital, the panchayat office... He simply loved the experience. He was roaming around the village for quite a bit of time, when he remembered his real reason for visit. He asked the people where the dupatta factory was and came here and that was when he saw her.
She was unlike anyone in the village. Her dress, her walk, her skin, her hair all was screaming she was not from here but from city. She stomped out of the factory in plain irritation visible to the most uninterested onlooker brandishing the phone on her hand like a sword. After finding a suitable spot where he guessed she got her phone signal, she started punching her mobile and the irritation on her face switched to dreamy in matter of seconds. Her cheeks became red and she sighed in pleasure, a small smile playing in corner of her lips. She stared at her phone wistfully, doing nothing but just staring and blushing and then suddenly she shook her head and the irritation came back with force. Vijay never saw such extreme emotions playing through one's face in such a short span of time. And such a pretty face added to it. She was a vision. So pretty. Mum always told him when he would meet the girl of his dreams he would know because he would get sucker punched by an invisible force and forgot to breath. He always laughed at that cheesy and romantic notion of his mom. However, he checked whether he was still breathing or not. Yea he was...LOL
And then he saw it coming, the tractor charging on like a crazed bull that had been waved a red flag. He looked at the pretty girl to check whether she was safe and almost had a heart attack. She jumped... SHE FREAKING JUMPED in front of the tractor. Was she crazy or what??? Was she alive??Did she die??but..but ... they just met...well, he just met her...even though she didn't have any idea of his existence...but she couldn't die...this couldn't happen to him. He felt as if something was ripped off him, he felt sucker punched. He ran towards the crash. He was not breathing.
Aru stood up, clutching the heavy Chammo to her breasts, all the workers came out and the nearby ones ran to help her up. The tractor driver was thankfully alive although bruised and he was in tears while he tried to explain how the brake failed and literally begging for her forgiveness. Aru smiled at him and asked him not to worry but he kept saying Mukhiji would kill him and that he was really really really sorry for the accident.
Vijay stood a little far from the girl carrying the big fat goat in her arms and smiling at the culprit of the day. To his utter disbelief, he heard her saying, "Aap chinta maat karya, Mukhiji aapko kuch nehi bolega...main bilkul thik huun or Chammo bhi, accidents to hota rehta hai...Thank god you are well. Don't worry, go and get your cuts treated." The man thanked her profusely while some other men took him away.
The girl was literally soaked in dust and red coloured dye just as the stupid goat. Thank fully the dye was powdered otherwise god knew how else she would have gotten rid of it. The red coloured goat at that point started to squirm and sprinted to the ground and ran off without giving the saviour of its life a second glance. Talk about being selfish!! Huh! The girl tried to catch it but couldn't. She called out, "Arey Chammo, ruk tu, let me see whether you are okay or not?? What will I answer to your father?"
Vijay was gobsmacked, was the girl for reals?? She was worried about that stupid goat's father and that was why she jumped in front of the tractor without caring of her own life?? He didn't know whether to applaud her for her bravery or shake her for her stupidity??
All the women were still fussing over the girl while she wistfully looked where that stupid Chammo' disappeared. The women were brushing off the dust and colour but she seemed shy. She thanked them embarrassingly asking them to return to their work and that she would see to herself.
Suddenly, Vijay found himself the subject of two twin orbs of hazel and felt himself drowning. But those beautiful eyes were looking at him suspiciously and their owner said rather sharply, "Who are you?? What are you doing here?"
Vijay smiled. Such a spitfire!
"I am Vijay Singh Rathode, I have come here to inspect my order of dupattas."
The girl's expression didn't change, she still asked suspiciously,"And you came here alone?? By walking? Where is Patel bhai?"
"Our car broke down in the middle of nowhere so I hitchhiked and walked here, Patel is probably still with the car. You know Patel? You know about our arrival?" Vijay was curious how the girl knew about them. Did she work at the factory? Was she a worker too? But she was too well dressed and educated for a mere worker.
"Haan, offcourse I know" She smiled at him at last. But it was a professional smile nothow she smiled at her phone. She turned to a nearby woman, "Parul ben, please take Mr. Rathode inside the factory and seat him. See that he is attended properly." She turned to Vijay and said embarrassingly, "Sorry you had to witness such chaos, it is not like this normally. Please give me few moments to freshen up. I will join you in minutes" , she left.
