This post was inspired by one of Violette's comments on coraline's topic.

If I saw 23 year old girl involved with a 42 year old man in real life, it would not bother me, especially in a western country. I could see such a relationship raising a few eyebrows in metropolitan india but not make much of a difference in a village- which is shown in the show.
My belief is along as it is safe, legal and consensual then a May to December romance is all right. who am I to judge?

However older men who fall for younger women are judged by our society. their attraction is sometimes written of as something superficial. it is commonly misunderstood that the man is either having a midlife crisis or he is after sex. which can be true in some cases but in other cases, it is genuine love. MMKD depicts Mukhi's attraction towards aru because of her lively spirit and his desire for a life partner- the man has been alone for too long. while society may not understand that, it's roots are pure and genuine.

I watched Nishabd starring jiah khan and amitabh bachan, the movie was about a 60 year old married man and an 18 year old girl. There was definitely an ick factor there, due to the fact that the age difference was far too big, amitabh looked very old, and it was all shown in a sexual manner. Thankfully, Mukhi and aru's relationship is not gross and I wouldn't even mind if it happened in real life. so far, the makers have shown it in an aesthetically pleasing way which makes me believe in their love. whereas in nishabd, It looks like sexual attraction rather than love, but liike the tagline said- some things are not meant to be understood.

Great topic Pomegranate!

I used to think age differences were a big deal when I was younger but now that I am a bit older I can see it differently. I meet some girls who are age wise 22-25 who are more mature than older women and I know some people who age wise are 40+ plus yet they have a young spirit because they didn't get to explore life or have much fun when younger, so there's so many different factors involved that judging a relationship purely on the age difference makes little sense nowadays.
There is a phrase we say outside of India, " they are 40 years old going onto 18, meaning they may be older in actual years but mentality wise they are still a kid or have much to learn. In Mukhi's case, he hasn't lived life for himself whatsoever, it's been about village and family, so in some ways, he is 42 going onto 18 or 19, and that's where Aru comes in, she has such an energy, a spirit that you can't help but fall for her, in the scene when Sanvi was trying to tell him that he should ask her to stay and he said by what right...Sanvi says that she is right for him and he says, "I know...

Call it being a hopeless romantic but when people fit, when they seem to have that chemistry and inexplicable bond, then age etc falls by the wayside. The way the CV's are slowly doing this is making it a pleasure to watch.

well, I dont think Mukhi is that old..he is just 42 not 60 or 70..yes he might have a wife 20 yrs younger than his age...going by the show and Mukhiji's character, he is a kid inside...he is a mature, responsible, the head of a village but no one notices there is a kid lives inside him...he got this mukhi ka titile kam umar mein..he forogt to live his adulthood zimmedaariya sambhalte sambhalte..Aru gives his life the very color he needs the most..she is like fresh breeze..her youth, her antics, her zest remind him his lost time...he enjoys them...they have a superb compatibility...bcz they connect...despite the age diff they connect..
going by our society, there was a time when our women were married off with men 20/30 yrs older than them..it was a norm then..gradually it changed..lekin abhi bhi it still is there...there is nothing wrong in it as long as the bride and the groom r OK with it..if they have compatibility, mutual respect, understanding then age counts as a number only..

lekin agar ulta ho then such men always tend to dominate their partners..which is very wrong...they should not forget the kind of relationship they r in, they both stand in the same place..they r partners..so they have equal rights on each other..no one is leader here.

When the show start... mere mind me yahi Q aaya tha k public as viewers ye concept ko accept karegi.. but jis tarah se Mukhi and Aru ko characters ko shape up kiya hai itss just awesome. .. show me 2 log jo har tarah se different hai but phir bhi mann se dono same hai.😳. and yaha show me mukhi and Aru dono ek dusre ki side attract hote hai.. but attractions yaha as a person he, the way he/she think ye wajah hai.. thats the reason they both R close to each other not physically attraction. And That's The Thing I Like So Much .

For me age is just a number. . aap mann se kaise ho kya sochte ho ye zaruri hai. do logo me age matter nahi karti. . bas pyaar respect and understanding honi chahiye. 😊dunia me aise bhi couples hai jinke beach har cheez perfact hai but phir bhi wo ek saath perfect nahi hai.

Very well said ! And this the reason this show don't bother me that much cos their relationship is not other than love and remember the Chini Kum? I just loved that movie and it had a huge age difference! And I do t think the age will bother us that much cos Mekhi is such a gentleman!!

A lot depends on how the said romance is portrayed on screen. In YMMKD, it is established that Mukhi is attracted to aru mostly because of her good character, and his need for a life partner- naturally physical attraction will be there as well.

Age is never a factor until there is a mutual understanding btw two apart from purely based on lust and sexual attaraction...
but if it there is a freindship mutual understanding and a solid compability things become quite easy and clean. sexual desire will follow with it but if it is purely based on this aspects then that relationship is fatal ...and cn soon turn out be the reason of domestic violence ,harasement etc..

The respect fr each other and understanding is the most important and age doesnt decides that isnt it??
