Shama Sikander
TV actress
"Sometimes it does happen that I am attracted to my costars; it's only human. But it (attraction) disappears as soon as I finish my shot."
Tarun > What sort of preparation did you do to acquire the Gujarati accent in the serial Yeh Meri Life Hai (YMLH)? Now that your accent is changing, are you feeling relieved or will you miss that?
Shama Sikander > Well, I will miss that because it was really cute. I did not have to go through any preparation as I had studied Gujarati (language) for one year in school. Besides, half the people on the set are Gujarati. So, I used to observe them.
Jack > Why is it that despite being seen with Fardeen Khan in Prem Aggan and Aamir in Mann , you could not find a foothold in popular Hindi films? Have you ever assessed it?
Shama Sikander > Making big is important wherever it is. And today I am big on TV. More than movies people love me on TV. I am right now very happy that I am big on TV and many people love me.
Rupz > What has been your toughest challenge in making Yeh Meri Life Hai ?
Shama Sikander > We face challenges every day, I think. But my accent is the biggest challenge and it has been appreciated. So I am really happy.
Sonu > Who do you like better among your two co stars - Rahil Azam or Amit Jain?
Shama Sikander > Well, they are both nice. I have spent more time with Amit so I am closer to him.
Max_bangalore > Shama you have a very pretty face. And I believe you have a nice accent.
Shama Sikander > Thank you very much, god bless you!
Snowhite > Is it true that you are going out with Amit Jain (Ronit)?
Shama Sikander > No way, he is a very good friend.
Tarun > Did You feel awkward when you were linked with your co- star Amit Jain?
Shama Sikander > Not really. It's a part of the glamour line. It keeps happening with everybody so (it) doesn't really matter.
Sonu > Do you ever feel attracted to your co-stars?
Shama Sikander > Yeah, sometimes it does happen. After all, I am a human being. It's just temporary. The attraction goes away as soon as I finish my shot.
Rich > Shama, how did you get a break in YMLH?
Shama Sikander > I know Vipul Shah, who is producer of the show. He is a family
Friend. He was offering me shows earlier too but I had refused then, as I was doing movies earlier. When he came up with this project I really liked it and thought it was something different. The character is like me in real life, so I thought I would be able to do justice to the role.
Loersnight21 > What is your nick name?
Shama Sikander > People call me Shams.
Sumit > What are your hobbies?
Shama Sikander > I love watching movies, swimming, love dancing and traveling.
Bekari > Any plans to do a film now? Do you think this time round the film industry will treat you better and give (you) better roles?
Shama Sikander > Yes, definitely, and why not? I would love to do a film. I have been getting many offers but since I am busy with Yeh Meri Life Hai, I have not been able take it up. In the future however, if I have time and I like the subject, I will definitely do a movie.
Nir > Shama, when is your film getting released?
Shama Sikander > I am not doing any films as of now.
Tarun > Your contract with Sony must be over by now? Are you looking for some other offers?
Shama Sikander > It's not yet finished. But it will be over soon. And I am getting many, many, many offers everyday. So I will see whichever excites me I will do that.
Magic > Why aren't you doing more TV serials? Have you signed any more TV serials?
Shama Sikander > Not really (signed). As I said earlier, I don't get time. At one time I can concentrate on only one thing.
Sonali > Have you found the Mr. Right? What are you looking for in your life partner?
Shama Sikander > Not yet. He should be a good human being - a very genuine and a honest person, and posses a good sense of humour.
Saurabh_soni2004 > Hi Shamaji, who is your idol?
Shama Sikander > My parents and God.
Anjali > Where do you hail from?
Shama Sikander > I am from Rajasthan.
Farhan > What was your experience in YMLH?
Shama Sikander > I can only say, it's been mind blowing! I enjoy each and every moment shooting because I have all my friends here.
Nir > Are you married?
Shama Sikander > No, I am single.
Farhan > Shama, what's your date of birth?
Shama Sikander > 4th of August.
Nir > Do you wear only Churidars (Indian) or clad in western clothes as well, in real life?
Shama Sikander > I wear both of them.
Roma > Do you think that the time of seedhi-saadhi (plain Jane) girl on screen has arrived and hot bombshells are a pass now? What has caused this change? Are you getting type cast in an image of Seedhi- Saadhi "Pooja"?
Shama Sikander > Yes, of course. Most Indian girls are simple so people like to see simple girls on screen. And that's why these programmes (serials) are working (hits) because audiences can relate to it well. No, I am not getting type cast in Pooja's image, as my role will keep changing. Pooja is going to be more like the present day woman .
Sign Off Message > Always be happy, keep smiling. God bless all of you. Love, Shama Sikander.
