When two siblings fall for the same person

In Star One's Yeh Ishq Haaye, the two sisters Manjari and Puja have fallen for the same guy - Akshay. The softspoken but sweet and romantic Akshay has captured the hearts of both sisters alike. Akshay is head over heels in love with Manjari and does not know that his attentions towards her are driving her sister, Puja, nuts. Puja has decided to get Manjari out of Akshay's life at any cost, even if that means creating problems in the life Anushka and Kabir or joining hands with the evil Mallika.

We take a look at some Bollywood films in which two siblings fall for the same person.

Saajan

Who can forget the evergreen songs of Lawrence D'Souza's Saajan ? be it Tu Shaayar Hai or Dekha Hai Pehli Baar? Besides the beautiful music, Saajan also had audiences hooked with its engaging plot and the well-essayed characters of Akash (Salman Khan) and Aman (Sanjay Dutt), both of whom fall in love with the extremely pretty Pooja (Madhuri).

Salman has always been a casanova, but his love at first sight for Madhuri hits him hard. Madhuri, however, has already lost her heart to poet Sagar, who is none other than Sanjay. The handicapped Sanjay falls for Madhuri too, but feels that Salman would be a better match for her, and urges him to assume the identity of Sagar. There is a confrontation between the two friends (who are more of siblings) over Madhuri, and she ends up going with her heart and choosing Sagar aka Sanjay.

Yeh Dillagi

Remember Ole Ole and Honton Pe Bas Tera Naam Hai from Naresh Malhotra's Yeh Dillagi? The story of Yeh Dillagi was about two rich brothers ? Vijay (Akshay Kumar) and Vicky (Saif Ali Khan) ? falling for the same girl ? their driver's beautiful daughter Sapna (Kajol). Kajol falls for the suave and hardworking Akshay, and wants to get married to him, unaware of his brother's love for her. Saif and Akshay's mother, however, has no intention of getting any of her sons married to a driver's daughter.

The climax shows Saif realizing that Akshay and Kajol are in deep love with each other, and sacrificing his love for his brother's sake.

Chal Mere Bhai

The 2000 film Chal Mere Bhai is the story of two brothers – Vicky (Sanjay Dutt) and Prem (Salman Khan), both heirs of a rich businessman. Sanjay runs the family business, while Salman has his heart set on becoming an actor. One fine day, the pretty Sapna (Karisma Kapur) joins his firm as his secretary, and the life of both the brothers changes forever. Sanjay falls in love with Karisma, while she is head over heels in love with Salman. Oblivious to Salman and Karisma's love for each other, their family fixes up Sanjay's marriage with Karisma.

Salman is all ready to sacrifice his love for his brother's sake, but Sanjay finds out about this well in time. Realising the true love between Karisma and Salman, Sanjay ensures that the two get married.

Dillagi

The 1999 film Dillagi starred real life brothers Bobby and Sunny Deol in the roles of devoted brothers Rajvir and Ranvir respectively. The two are as different as chalk and cheese – Bobby is bratty, reckless and believes in living life without a care in the world; Ranvir, on the other hand, is responsible and hardworking. They do have one thing in common – they fall in love with the same girl, the pretty Shalini (Urmila Matondkar).

Happy to know that Bobby has found love, Sunny arranges his marriage with the woman he loves, only to realize that she is none other but his own sweetheart.

Pardes

Subhash Ghai's 1997 film Pardes marked the debut of Mahima Chaudhary, who played the role of the innocent village belle Ganga. Ganga's marriage is fixed to the handsome and wealthy NRI Rajiv (Apoorva Agnihotri), and his foster brother Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) comes to India to meet and approve of Ganga. Shah Rukh ends up falling for Mahima, who also becomes the object of lust for Rajiv when he comes to India.

Luckily, Mahima's family realizes the true intentions of Apoorva before marrying her off to him, as well as the depth of Shah Rukh's feelings for her. Shah Rukh and Mahima also realize their love for each other, and there is happily ever after for them. Apoorva is asked to go back to USA, after the family comes to know of his heinous behavior towards Mahima.
