Hello everyone! I'm extremely sorry for being so so so late, but believe me I did not want to do this. One after the other, life kept throwing at me reasons for delaying the update. But anyways, it's finally here!

I'm very nervous and uncertain regarding the response this chapter would get. So please be an honest critic and give me your comments.

Part 14

Waiting for Sameer to come out, Naina and Preeti stood outside his office building. Naina finally decided to call him, before she saw him walking in their direction. "Kitne late ho tum, pata hai?" she fired but before Sameer could say anything in his defence, Preeti spoke up, "Ab na tu time waste kar rahi hai." Naina muttered a "Fine!" and Sameer rushed to get the car.

On their way to Munna's house, Sameer halted the car infront of a small cafe and rushed inside the cafe. As Preeti looked on cluelessly, Naina explained, "Coffee lene gaya hai." Seeing an amused look on Preeti's face, she added "He lives on coffee! Saans lena chhod de par coffee na chhode!" and the two let out a little laugh. Naina thought, in a time of just few days, she was able to predict what this crazy guy was up to. Munna had asked them to come to his house immediately after their office hours, but she knew Sameer would never skip his coffee. As Sameer came back with three coffees, giving one each to Naina and Preeti, and keeping the third one for himself, she asked him to quickly drive to Munna's house.

Standing outside Munna's flat, they rang the doorbell and within less than ten seconds, Munna opened the door and dragged them inside, saying "Kitni der laga di tum logo ne!" Naina threw a 'dekha!' look at Sameer, who shamelessly grinned at her and plopped himself on the nearby sofa. But he straightened seeing Munna pace to and fro in the living room, and asked "Kya hua hai tujhe? Itni jaldi mein kyu bulaya?" Munna slumped next to him and replied, "Yaar ek zaruri baat karni thi tum sabse."

Naina and Preeti seated themselves next to Munna, and Naina asked softly, "Koi tension ki baat hai kya?" Munna looked worried and informed, "Yaar agle mahine mummy papa aa rahe hain Mumbai." Preeti quipped in, "Phir to definitely tension ki baat hai!" and she was not the only one to break into laughter. "Tu na ye Sameer level ke joke mat maar!" Naina rebuked her, making her and Sameer stop laughing abruptly. While Sameer frowned, Preeti had a teasing smirk, "Ab tu jokes ko bhi Sameer ke level se judge karegi! Not bad!" Naina had a mental facepalm moment, while Sameer and Preeti put their hands behind Munna and Naina's necks and shared a low-five, happy with the immediate breaking of ice.

Irritated with the lack of attention, Munna turned to Preeti, "Ho gaya tera? Main bolu ab?" Everyone got serious and Munna informed them that his parents were coming to Mumbai next month, to stay with him for a week or so, and that he was planning on revealing his and Swati's relationship to them and also tell them that they wanted to get married. Sameer, assuming Swati had accepted Munna's proposal for marriage, pulled him into a quick hug. But Munna denied, saying she hadn't said yes. When a bewildered Preeti asked if she had rejected the proposal, Munna again nodded in a no. Seeing their confused faces, he cleared that he hadn't even proposed her yet!

"To kab ka mahurat hai propose karne ka?" Sameer asked, resting a hand on Munna's shoulder. Munna looked at him angrily but then sighed, "Yaar mahurat jab ka bhi ho, dikkat ye hai ki main akele kuch nahi kar paunga." Naina looked away from him and mumbled, "We trust you on that!" and then turning back to him, asked, "To humein kyu bulaya hai?" Munna jumped and sat down on the floor, near their legs, making them almost shreik, and begged, "Tum teeno please isme meri madad kar do."

"Hum help to kar denge lekin pehle ye bata tune kuch plan kiya hai?" Sameer questioned. "Mera to tension ke mare dimaag hi nahi chala" Munna sadly replied. Seeing his fallen face, Sameer tried to cheer him up, "Don't worry yaar, main tujhe sare best ideas dunga." Naina, lifting her brows, remarked, "Ya, he has a lot of experience! But Sameer, usko apne paas rakho kyuki Swati ko tumse better main jaanti hu." Preeti added, "Aur main bhi!"

Sameer grinned widely while thinking to himself, jealous much? She seemed to be affected by his boasting about his girlfriends and.. He liked it. Afterall, jealousy always got the better of girls, he believed. "Lekin ladkiyon ko impress karna mujhe ata hai, tumhe nahi" he stated matter of factly. "Ab to sab tum hi batao. Kya karna hai, kaise karna hai? Bolo" Naina snapped, and crossed her arms at her chest. She gave him a challenging look. Sameer immediately agreed and started explaining, "Sabse pehle, mahurat. I mean ek date fix karo." Munna stated, "Mummy papa to agle mahine aa rahe hai. To is mahine mein kabhi bhi kar sakte hain."

Sameer noticed that Naina looked around with her lips pursed. She was continuously playing with her nails and that clearly meant she needed to say something but she wasn't willing to speak as well, a habit he had observed in her a few times. Initially, he thought she was behaving like that because he had indeed given a good idea, but when Preeti too looked at her suspiciously, he felt it was something serious. "Naina, put your ego aside and spill out whatever is going on your mind!" Sameer demanded. She sighed, "Swati next Friday Pune ja rahi hai. To jo karna hai usse pehle karna hai." Preeti lightly smacked her arm, "Bol nahi sakti thi khud se! Phir bolti Sameer ka idea flop hai." Naina mumbled a "Sorry". Sameer smiled, "It's ok."

Seeing Naina looking slightly embarrassed, he felt bad too. He was not liking this quiet Naina. In an attempt to divert everyone's mind, he started, "To Wednesday ka done rakhein?" Everyone agreed and they moved to the next point, "Karenge kya?" Preeti voiced. "Swati ekdum dreamy hai. Use wo fairytales wali chizein pasand hai, to us hisaab se socho" said Naina. Preeti gave the idea of proposing amidst snow-capped mountains as Swati liked Yash Chopra movies. Munna rejected it saying, "Kya bolke le jaun use snowfall wali jagah? Aur snow to Mumbai tak definitely nahi ayegi. Kuch aur karenge" and he added after thinking for a while, "Idea! Pipe se uski balcony mein chadh ke propose karunga use. Sasta, filmy aur tikau tarika hai ye to." Naina and Preeti both thought it was too simple for a marriage proposal.

"Beach pe propose karna tu usko" Sameer came up with the idea. He glanced at the other three and the first thing he saw was, Naina looked impressed. She even supported his idea, "That's a good idea. Swati ko bohot pasand ayega." with that, the happy dance of Sameer's insides was as if played on loop. Munna and Preeti agreed too. The next half an hour was spent in deciding exactly what was to be done and who would do what. Naina excused herself to go to the washroom. Sameer and Preeti were waiting for Munna, who was getting some snacks for them from the kitchen, and were chit-chatting about what they had in common, Naina. "Tum to Naina ki chik chik roz sunte hoge. Itna chhedte jo ho use" Preeti giggled. "Mujhe bada maza ata hai use chidane mein. Ab to use bhi aadat hone lag gayi hai" Sameer grinned. "Haan ye baat to hai. Maza to ata hai usko chidane mein. Lekin phir uske chillane se to bhagwan hi bachaye!" Preeti exclaimed. "Lekin ye kahan reh gayi?" Sameer asked, and Preeti got up, "main dekh kar ati hu."

After a few minutes, Preeti came back with again, a quiet Naina. "Sab decide ho gaya na, ab hum sab ko apne apne ghar jana chahiye" Naina voiced. "Thik hai, pehle ye chips to kha lo tum dono" Munna offered them the bowl of chips. Naina pleaded, "phir kabhi kha lenge, chips ka kya hai. Abhi ghar chalte hai na." Sameer got a little concerned, "Naina, do minute baitho, kuch kha lo. Phir chalte hain" But Naina's temper flared up, "Tumhe khana hai na, to aaram se kha ke aa jana. Main rickshaw mein chali jaungi."

Preeti held Naina's arm and rubbed it slowly to calm her down. Sameer immediately stood up, "Thik hai chalte hain. Lekin tumhari tabiyat to thik hai na?" Naina nervously looked at Preeti, who nodded understandingly, "ye bas bohot thak gayi hai. Aaj office mein workload bohot tha na, isliye. Ghar jake soyegi to thik ho jayegi." With that, the three of them bid Munna a good bye and Sameer and Naina left in his car, while Preeti hailed a rickshaw.

Throughout the way, Sameer did not ask Naina anything as he knew she was cranky at the moment. Why? He did not know. But he had decided to ask her tomorrow. When they reached, Naina grabbed her bag, got out of the car, and without saying a word to him or uncle aunty watching TV in the living room, rushed to their room. She did not even reply to Inder uncle's "Good evening!" As Sameer came in looking worried but clueless, Inder uncle placed a hand on his shoulder as an understanding gesture, "please go and check if she's fine." Sameer gave a small smile and rushed upstairs, before apologising on Naina's behalf.

Seeing the bathroom door open from outside and the light from the small gap under the door, Sameer figured out that Naina was in the bathroom. He dumped both his laptop bag and himself on the bed, waiting for her to come out. After a while, when she came out of the bathroom, he immediately sat up, shooting questions at her, "Are you ok? Itni jaldi kyu machayi ghar aane ke liye? Tabiyat to kharab nahi hai?"

"I'm fine" Naina replied after a brief silence. Sameer looked at her uncertainly, "pakka?" to which she nodded. He smiled and moved towards the bathroom, but Naina stopped him, "wahan kahan ja rahe ho?" "Bathroom mein" Sameer replied obviously. "Tum bathroom mat jao" Naina blurted. Sameer was puzzled. What was she even saying! "Naina, tumhari tabiyat pakka kharab hai" he stated and gently moving her aside, headed towards the bathroom.

"Sameer, please stop!" Naina pleaded a little loudly. Sameer frowned, turning back towards her, "kya problem hai tumhe mere bathroom jane se?" Naina was looking around nervously, playing with her nails again. "Not again, Naina! What's wrong?" Naina pursed her lips and tried to avoid eye contact. Sameer sighed in exasperation and holding her hand, made her sit on the bed. He gently asked her again but she was frustrated now, "bas aaj mat jao. Kal chale jana na." Sameer took a deep breath to calm himself. Maybe she was unwell. He should be patient. He decided to try one last time, "Naina, tum bhi jaanti ho tum illogical baat kar rahi ho. Kya problem hai, bataogi? Please!"

Finally giving up, Naina confessed, in a voice as low as a whisper, "bathroom mein sanitary napkins ka packet pada hai. Main leke gayi thi but wapas lana bhool gayi" she did not dare to look him in the eye, and continued, "pehle to ladkiyon ke sath hi rehti thi, to aisi hi aadat thi. Aur phir shifting ke chakkar mein mujhe date ka khayal hi nahi raha, to sab kuch bohot sudden lag raha hai."

Sameer was relieved knowing that it was nothing related to her health. But when he looked at her, sitting quietly with her eyes downcast, it disturbed him. She eventually confessed everything to him but she looked extremely mortified. Why? Did she feel embarrassed? Because of him? Thinking on these lines, Sameer began, "Naina, I understand thodi hesitation hoti hogi, but hum sabko school mein ye sab padhaya gaya hai and we all know it's completely natural. You don't have to be embarrassed. Ye purana zamaana nahi hai" Naina stopped fidgeting and gave a weak smile, "aaj ke zamaane mein bhi to har koi trust ke layak nahi hai!" Sameer was taken aback. What did she mean by that? In the morning too, she had not let him search for her phone in her cupboard. He had been a gentleman to not do that without her permission. But she still couldn't trust him! And now this. He never did anything that would make any girl around him uncomfortable. But what if he had unintentionally disrespected her with any of his antics or jokes. His heart sank. "Naina, agar meri koi bhi baat ya harkat tumhe galat lagi ho to I'm sorry. Main bas masti karta rehta hu, koi galat intention.." Naina cut him in between, "No no.. Aisa nahi hai. Tumne aisa kuch nahi kiya hai, I swear. Oh God! Baitho tum yahan.." she pulled him to sit next to her and continued, "Pata hai, college mein na first year se hi main apne ek senior ko pasand karti thi. Wo na apni class ka representative tha aur main apni class ki. To college events aur mein kaafi interactions hoti thi. Dheere dheere aisa lagne laga ki hum dono ki feelings mutual hai. But confess nahi kar rahe the. Ek baar ek event ki shaam ko mere periods start ho gaye, aur mere paas napkins bhi nahi the us din. Mujhe urgently ghar jana tha, to maine us senior se kaha ki mujhe ghar chhod de. Usne reason pucha to maine bata diya, kyuki mujhe laga wo samjhega. But I was wrong! Usne aise react kiya jaise mujhse koi gunah ho gaya ho. Infact hasa bhi mujh par. Aur main kuch bhi seh lungi lekin koi meri disrespect kare.. bilkul nahi." She ended with a serious look on her face.

Sameer felt bad listening to her. She had trusted that guy but he didn't deserve her trust. He had broken it. But would she not trust anyone now? Not even him? Seeing his fallen face, Naina stated, "Main Preeti aur Swati ke alawa aur kisi pe puri tarah trust nahi karti. To be honest, tum pe bhi nahi.. Lekin har chiz ki kabhi to shuruwat hoti hai na." she smiled sweetly at the end. Sameer took a minute to register her words and when he did, he smiled back at her. But another question was constantly bugging his mind and he decided to voice it out, "did you love him?" Naina's eyes widened, "I liked him. I did not love him. And I'm glad I didnt'." she confirmed, and Sameer flashed his brightest smile, while Naina shook her head laughing. Sameer was back to his cheered up self, "to matlab tum humesha se aisi angry bird nahi ho. Us senior ki wajah se ho gayi." Naina faked anger, but then sighed, "hmm. Bharosa jo tod diya. Waise ab tum bathroom use kar sakte ho."

Sameer quickly grabbed his night suit and headed to the bathroom. When he came back after changing, he dumped his clothes on the chair infront of the dressing table. Naina immediately looked up from her phone, "Ye kya tarika hai! Aur subah decide kiya tha na ki raat ko aake saare kapde uthayenge. Lao saare yahan." Sameer did as the lady ordered and gathered clothes from around the room and dumped them on the bed. "Inhe ek baar aise hi fold kar ke rakh dete hain ek side mein. Kal dhobi ko dene padenge saare" Naina ranted, and listening to it, Sameer immediately stopped folding his shirt, "dhobi ko hi dena hai to fold kyu karna. Chhodo" and he threw his shirt and himself in the pile of clothes. Naina put her hands on her hips, "inhe aise hi chhod diya to room mein jagah hi nahi bachegi. Ek baar tum kaise bhi fold kar ke ek jagah rakh do taki kal ek baar mein mil jaye." Sameer frowned but got back to work.

While randomly taking clothes from the pile, Sameer accidentally picked out a piece of Naina's innerwear. He gulped as his eyes widened in realisation. Naina looked mortified to say the least. She quickly grabbed it and hid it in her stack of clothes. What followed was complete awkward silence. Both of them quickly completed the task in hand and wishing each other a quick goid night, slept with their backs facing each other.

Lastly, I want to say that this part was dedicated to Minu (TereLiyeMINU) as it was her idea to write about Naina's periods. I wasn't too sure about it but she encouraged me.😳

So nice update

Finally after long time , you have updated and am glad that you did. I liked it and loved this slow transition between them . They are getting to know each other at a steady pace and I doubt if they even realize that they are falling for each other...but I am sure the their friends have started noticing their changes...I love this Preethi Sameer interaction , its nice . I am sure soon they will develop a strong bond.
