Very few care to see the inner beauty which should be the standard for measuring beauty. IT is not just about eduction, it is also about enlightenment. I loved how Sam gave it back ever so politely although he was cleary pissed off with Taiji.
Haritha, your question is valid but fact is in this show we are dealing with women who are not as educated and hail from small town or villages, like Taiji. Putting down other people was common then, older women considered that to be an act of showing concern. Yes, their way of talking was insensitive and hurtful to the person affected but listen to Taiji, she ends it with saying she is worried for Naina. Equality in a relationship was unheard of in their world... so considering a girl can support herself is an alien notion.
And in her world, either a girl has to be a stunning beauty like an actress or should have wealth... two situations where finding a groom is easier. In Naina's case, in Taiji's view she is ordinary looking and poor. Now Preeti is ordinary too but Anand has money to spend on a wedding, so she targets Naina.
And again, Naina is motherless and chachi can support only so much. Rakesh doesn't accord her the live and respect she deserves... he never praises her or brags about her achievements, so again Naina becomes an easy target.
Again education is what liberates people... and someone who has seen more of the world like Sameer recognizes the talent in Naina. His love for her is not superficial... he admires her, respects her and is proud of her achievements. Even during the debate he displayed that. He considers her an equal. And hence his confident manner in supporting her. I absolutely loved the way he delivered his message... calm, poised but very clear and yet sounding sweet and not hurtful.
