"E Naina! Wo shirt utar..Aise hi khadi rahegi kya use pehenke? ''Preeti nudged Naina seeing her standing motionless holding the collar of the shirt close to her lips.
"Haan..Kuch kaha tune?'' Naina was pulled to real world as Preeti hit her playfully.
"Boli ki Sameer se shaadi karle..Har din uska shirt pehenke ghumegi. ''Preeti teased only to receive a glare from Naina.
"PREETI!'' Naina voiced annoyed at Preeti's silly talks and took off the shirt and threw it to the bed.
"Ab humara koi rishta nahin hai'' Naina voiced not knowing the slip.
"Ek minute..Yeh ab' ka kya matlab? Matlab ' tu' aur 'Sameer'? ''Preeti's eyes got dilated as she joined the dots.Naina's wince when his palm got bruised at the well,his possessiveness,his protective attitude...everything just for classmates' sake?Just for strangers?All made sense now.
"Main aur Sameer kya? 'Naina trembled at thought of Preeti getting to know about the secret she had guarded so well.
"Naina! Tu samajhti kya hai khudko?'' Preeti was really pissed with Naina's secret-keeping attitude.
"Teri behen.'' Naina replied innocently while her heart beat with trepidations.
"Behen?Arey dushman bhi apna dukh dard baant deta hai lekin tu? Sach sach bata...Kya chupa ke rakhi hai.Tujhe kya laga? Ganit ke kuch chapters samajh mein nahin aate to teri such-dukh ko bhi nahin samajh paungi.Itni bi buddhu nahin hun.Pehle kyun nahin bataya?'' Preeti asked while tears rolled down her cheeks with the thought of Naina's treachery.
"Preeti! Meri baat to sun..Main Mt.Abu se ake tujhe sab batane wali thi..lekin use pehle hi sab khatam ho gaya..''Naina tried consoling Preeti while relating the whole story and Preeti shrugged her shoulders in annoyance.
"Mujhe explanation dene ki zaroorat nahin hai.Aur kya khatam ho gaya? Tujhe sach mein lagta hai sab khatam ho gaya? Apne sine pe haath rakh ke bol ki sab khatam ho gaya hai.''.Preeti trailed as she put Naina's palm over her heart.
"BOL..Sab Khatam ho gaya hai..Kuch baki nahin hai..Chup kyun hai?'' Preeti pestered while Naina broke down into sobs.
"Usne pyar ka jhootha natak kiya Preeti..wo mujhse sacha pyar nahin karta ... use bol de kahin dur chala jaye... nahin karna hai use pyar.. phir se..''.Naina spoke in hiccups while Preeti took her sister in a comforting embrace.
"Pagli! Use kaise bol dun ki dur chala jaye jab uske aankhon mein tere liye pyar saaf dikhta hai.Jo ho gaya use bure khwab samajh ke bhul jaa.Nayi shuruwat kar.Maafi de de usko.. ''Preeti voiced while wiping tears from Naina's eyes.
"Nahin..nahin maaf karungi use ''Naina spoke as she stood up in firm determination.
"Thik hai..Maaf mat kar..lekin use dur mat jaane dena.Tut jaoge dono...Tu kapde badal le,main wo Sameer ko dekhke ke aati hun.''Preeti said as she left.
At the well
"Munna!Pandit! Tum log rest karo,main thoda paani pike aata hun.'' Sameer said as he wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"Haan Bhai! Tu jaa aur ek bottle le aaio.Paida hone ke time se aaj tak itna kaam nahin kiya tha.'' Munna sighed as he sat tired by the footing of well.
"Kaam khatam karlenge,phir kuch khaane pine chalenge.''Sameer said thoughtfully feeling pity for his best friends sorry brothers.
"Bahut badhiya...'' Pandit exclaimed cheerfully.
"SAMEER! ''Preeti darted carrying a rage of fury with her towards Sameer while three of them looked stunned.Preeti definitely looked incarnation of MahaKali.'
"Are yaar! Yeh Preeti ko kya hua? Kaali ka roop kyun dharan kiya hai?'' Pandit voiced while feeling a bit scared.
Preeti proved his comment right as she slapped Sameer hard.
"Preeti!'' Sameer's words turned into whisper as he still was in shock.
"Samajhte kya ho apne aap ko? Mere behen ko sapne dikhake aise asani se bhaag jaoge?'' Preeti asked with fury laced in her tone.
"Preeti! Samajhne ki koshish karo...Tumhe...''Sameer's words halted as the unexpected happened.
"Sab samajh chuki hoon Jijaji..mujhe maaf kar dijiye thappad ke liye.. ''Preeti voiced smilingly and touched Sameer's feet while Munna and Pandit were left open-mouthed at the sudden twist in events.
"Kya kar rahi ho? Utho..Nanu kehte hain ladkiyan pair nahin padte.''Sameer said as he lifted up his nautanki' saali from his feet.
"To kya gale lagte hein? Chalo chodo wo jagah to Naina ke liye booked hai'' Preeti said with a wink while Sameer blushed at the remark.
"To Jijaji...Aap kaam khatam karke aa jaiye mein khane ka intezaam karti hun.Aur tum dono bhi saath mein aajana. ''Preeti informed and left.
Few hours later
"Naina! Preeti! Yeh phool bahar balcony mein saja do.Bhagwan jhooth na bulaye yeh tent waale kar kya rahein hein! ''Chachiji spoke in frustration as there was so much to do in less time while catering to guests.
"Mummy! Aap na tent walon ka paisa hume dedo..Sab kaam to main,Naina,Jij..meri matlab Sameer,Pandit aur Munna kar rahen hein..''Preeti spoke equally in fit of frustration as she picked up the basket of flowers.
"Bhagwan jhooth na bulaye..Apni badi behen ke shaadi hai aur tujhe sirf masti ki padi hai.Chalo jao aur kaam karo.'' Chachiji instructed and left.
"Preeti! Kya kar rahi hai? Aise nahin lagate hein.Tu utar main lagati hun.'' Naina pulled Preeti's hand for the nth time speaking the line in loop.
"Tu na apna muh band kar aur niche dekh.Jijaji wahan khade hein ache se dekh le.Yaar! Kya mast ladka pataya hai tune!'' Preeti voiced dreamily while decorating the garlands.
"Tu bhi na! Sirf bakwas karti reh.Jaldi haath chala.Iss taraf phul laga. ''Naina instructed pointing to another hook.
Meanwhile
"Yeh! Baalon ke dukan! Idhar aa'' Rakesh called Sameer seeing him happily chatting with Munna and Pandit.
"Ji Sir! ''Sameer asked knowing very well that Rakesh surely had some work to assign him.
"Yeh mirchi lights upar balcony mein laga lena.Aur haan ache se lagana.Kaam dikhta nahin bas awaaragardi hi karte raho.'' Rakesh spoke in his usual tone while Sameer silently left.
"Naina! Aur ek phul ki mala dena.. ''Preeti spoke not knowing Naina was absent.She stood on her tiptoes to attach the garland.As she attached the string to hook,she saw blurring image of Pandit smiling at her.She too smiled at him...her eyes blurred completely and head swirled.
"PREETI! ''Sameer held her before she hit the ground.
"Preeti!Kya hua use? ''Naina came rushing as she had gone inside to get more flowers.
"Chakkar aa gayi..Pani leke aao " Sameer spoke as he still held Preeti in his arms.
"Preeti! Hosh mein aa..Preeti! Hosh mein aao ''Both Naina and Sameer spoke at the same time rubbing her hands.Sameer's hand fell on Naina's while Naina dilated her eyes with his sudden action.She was shocked that he didn't regret his action and tightened his hold over her hand.He looked into her eyes and she was slowly losing herself in the tides of emotions those black orbs held in them.Time stood still and there was only bliss of getting lost in each other's eyes.No anger,no facade intervened, there was only pure passion.
"Jijaji..Main hoon yahan...apke baahon mein'' Preeti spoke up regaining her consciousness long back and seeing the two lost in each other giving a damn to world.
"Oh! Tumhe hosh agaya hai.'' Sameer spoke as their trance was broken and Naina turned away to hide her blush.
"Hosh to meri kabka aa gaya hai..wo to aap log behosh ho gaye the'' Preeti quipped as Sameer lifted her up to stand straight.
"Tum dono jao.Pandit aur main yeh phool aur lights laga lenge.'' Sameer uttered with firmness.Naina didn't protest looking at the major mishap that was thankfully averted by him.Preeti could definitely have fallen off the balcony.
"Thank you Jijaji.Aaj to sidhe upar jaane wali thi.'' Preeti thanked him with tone full of gratitude.
"Aise nahin bolte.Tumhe meri umar lag jaaye'' He smilingly said while Naina felt a jolt within her.
"Tumhari umar kyun use lagegi? Preeti!Tujhe meri umar lagegi.'' Naina said with determined voice while Sameer and Preeti looked at her with 'You are impossible'' look.
"Yaar! Tum log mujhe umar dene ke upar to mat jhagdo.Kisika umar kisse nahin lagegi aur ...'' She trailed and pulled both Naina and Sameer into side hugs voicing---"Hum saath rahenge umar bhar''.
In the Mehendi Function
"Preeti! Tune haath pe kiska naam likha hai?'' Naina asked as the parlour girl drew designs on her hand.
"Jijaji ka'' Preeti teased while Naina huffed in anger.She could not fathom,though she was angry,upset with him;she could never share him with anyone not even Preeti.
Did she still love him like before? Did she ever stop loving him?
She was in her world of questions failing to hear parlour girl asking whose name to write on her hand.''S'' Preeti had already whispered seeing Naina lost in her own misery.
"Ho gaya!'' Parlour girl spoke a bit louder and Naina's trance broke.
"Naina! Kripa Mausi aayi hai..Unse thoda baat karti reh,main thoda dusra kaam dekhti hun. ''Bela Chachi instructed Naina and she definitely failed to see the 'S' beautifully carved in her hands.
After few minutes
"Uff!Kripa Mausi bhi kitna badbad karti hein...Arey tumhari rishtedar ke ladke se main bhala shaadi kyun karun? Aur waise bhi main kisise..''Her words halted in her own mouth as she saw the letter S' darkening into her cells along with the floral designs.
"Hey bhagwan! Yeh 'S' kisne likha?'' Naina looked at the pattern for few more seconds before realizing that she should wash it right then.
"Yeh zaroor Preeti ki chal hogi! Mujhe bhi usi waqt kahin kho jana tha..Yeh sab uss Sameer ke karan..Jab se aay hai sab gadbad ho raha hai... ''She kept on blabbering to herself failing to see if anyone was inside her room.She locked the door and kept on blabbering until dashing to someone.
"Naina! Sambhalke. ''He said as he held her wrist lest she would have crashed to floor.
"Tum yahan bhi ho?'' Naina blurted not realizing.
"Kyun main kahin aur bhi tha kya? ''He cocked his eyebrows and teased her.He had already seen the 'S' that had already reddened.
"Tum yahan kya kar rahe ho?'' She asked seeing him in her room as matter of factly.
"Taiji ne mehendi aur henna ke phool lene bheja tha.Wohi lene aaya tha.Waise yeh 'S' koun hai?'' He asked to tease her a little more.
"Koi nahin..'' She spoke as she tried scrubbing the letter in vain.
"Mujhe laga... ''He spoke and took a slow step towards her.
"Tumhe..kya..laga?''She asked as she took her step back and found herself standing against the door of the wardrobe.She remained motionless as he still advanced towards her.
"Mujhe laga..''He spoke in a husky voice and she could no longer endure his closing proximity; she shut her eyes.The atmosphere in the room suddenly felt heavy as pressure build up between both the bodies.It made her dizzy and drove her to her knees.She could feel whatever strength she had left seeped away from her body as his warm breaths fanned her.
"Kya..laga? ''She could mouth in broken words as his hands caged her completely.Her breaths got suspended while giddiness seized her senses.
"Yehi laga ki...Salman hai.'' He voiced with a sly smile and abruptly withdrew from her.
"Nahin wo nahin hai..'' She voiced still in daze.He smiled at her flushed state and his eyes lingered over her heaving self.
His possessive side took over him.He felt a mad rush of emotions and passion surge over him as he eyed her a little longer with the warmth of his eyes.Such was the intensity that he could start fires with what he felt for her.
He picked up the mehendi cone from the tray and held her wrist in tight hold.Her eyes popped open at the sudden movement from him.Her heart raced and even skipped beats when he drew a bigger 'S' with artisitic touches.
"Sameer! Kya kar rahe ho?..Meri haath chodo ''She finally managed to mouth the words that was stuck in her throat.
"Shh! ''He silenced her and continued designing the S' he had drawn.He marvelled at his art once he was done.It looked perfect.
"Main yeh dho dungi..Bekar ki mehnat ki.''She declared and started to move inside the bathroom.
He pulled her hand and looked at his art work with admiration before she could wash it away.
"Aaj Mehendi hai na ?''He asked so as to confirm while she looked at him bewildered.Had he lost his mind?
"Haan..Jaise tumhe nahin maalum'' She voiced utterly confused with his actions and enquiries.
He looked up at her and in a flick smudged the 'S' he had written. He straight looked into her eyes and smeared the mehendi on her svelte neck.
Without giving her a chance to speak; he left the room with the tray and she stood stunned for few minutes before regaining her stance and most importantly...senses.
"Arey! Naina! Kahan chali gayi hai?'' Bua Dadi called and Naina hurried to the stage at the call.
"Kahan thi itni waqt?'' Bua Dadi asked while Naina saw Sameer sitting with Munna and Pandit just behind Bua Dadi engaged in conversation.
"Wo...Haath dhone gayi thi. ''She voiced and blushed at the moments that transpired inside the room.She still could feel the heat around her.
"Waise Naina! Mujhe jitna pata hai log haath pe mehendi lagate hein,pair mein mehendi lagate hein aur Bombay main kuch log apne baal pe bhi mehendi lagate hein lekin gale pe mehendi koun lagata hai?'' Bua Dadi asked as she saw the smeared mehendi on her neck.
Naina face palmed at her ignorance of not making her enough presentable after she regained her senses.What would she answer now? She looked at him with annoyance.There he was sitting,the tormentor of her heart,enjoying the scene to core.He looked at her and winked.He had literally left her tongue tied and flushed.
"Arey bata na...''Taiji asked seeing Naina quiet for a little longer than necessary.
"Wo..Taiji...galti se lag gaya.Main dho ke aati hun.'' She said and got up to flee from there.
"Koi zaroorat nahin hai ... programme shuru hone ko hai.Khatam ho jane ke baad dho lena.'' Taiji instructed as she sat sulking.
She traced the place where the mehendi was smeared and realised that;her plans have went wrong and he has coloured her with his love,that was slowly deepening and attaining maturity.
