Hi all,
Today apart from the 'kaand' (alteast in 90's this was kaand) & the neend udaofying precap, there was another fiery segment in the episode.. that of sanskaar, love marriage, & social ostracism.

This was equally interesting to me as it showed the extent to which Naina's family and ofcourse the others of the 90's looked down upon 'love' and the associated entanglements of it. From pointing out the 'parvarish' of the girl to socially boycotting the family to showing not even an iota of sympathy, the family did it all today - dug its own grave in the social backyard of Indian mindset...

I could only gape at the way the scene played out, yet I had to grudgingly admit that the scene was a plot highlight and extremely crucial.. also bang on reflection of the mentality of people.. Unfortunately, this rings true even today..

Now, coming to the three couples who headline my post - its a given they are gonna have a 'love' marriage.. each more blasphemous than the other.. where Sameer is this nalayak, good for nothing guy in Rakesh's eyes.. Shefali is a christian.. an inter religion marriage leaves no scope for redemption.. and Preeti - Pandit union for now is speculation.. but may happen too.. why coz it cant be that only rakesh's kids can go off the 'sanskari' path.. they need to show someone apart from them committing same 'crime'.

All said, I believe the Agarwal family have done themselves in with this 'ahankaar - full' stand (to borrow the term). What heartlessness, what atrocious commentary and what disgusting act.. in way they really do deserve whats coming their way!

Karma is a bitch.. my dears.. and thats something that never changes.. be it the 90's or 2017!

@bold - that was like running a hot poker through a deep blood ridden flesh wound.. My god, how could I miss that dialogue..

Arre aapke beti ne nahi socha.. toh phir hum kyun.. something na.. I must say the actor did a commendable job.. made me hate him in one go! Both Taya and Tayiji are a match made in hell!

The social ostracism was so real back then. The makers are keeping it real.

The whole conversation was about girls and love marriage. Disown the girl if she strayed away from the sanskaars. In one of the previous episodes, Taiji said she would never allow any of the girls to have a love marriage. Never said anything about the boy in the house. It was something that girls did it then it would bring shame on the family. Even today Tayaji talked about controlling Pooja, Preeti and Naina. None said about controlling Arjun.

Brilliant point! I completely missed that.. yes! nothing was said about Arjun! Aakhir, patriarchy dictates that gals are the izzat of the household na.. and guys, khulla sand!!

Yeah agree to this 😊
Norms and standards are different for girls and boys even today... leave alone that time... I hated the hypocrisy that Taiji and tauji were demonstrating... and now that family is defamed and the girl... Megha wouldn't get married and her life is spoilt... I hope they don't show her committing suicide or something like this

But really that scene brought out the reality of our society

The fact that Megha overheard everything, I have a fear of she doing something to her life. Maybe Naina, Shefali may help her in the process.

U knw what, during the whole drama, I was jus thinking abt one thing... Who the bldy hell r these ppl to ask them to kick their daughters outta their house??!!

I mean,it's not some stpd village where they sit under a peepal tree n proclaim to outcast the family, right? It's a modern society, okies not 21st century, but then it's also not the 1920-40s... after all they are living in apartments, that itself is modern way of living to an extent...

Anyways, my point of contention was that why do sm aira gaira nattu gaira neighbours not wanting to mingle with u is more important than ur daughter? I can understand ur own relatives saying that n that actually wud mean something... but srsly who r these so called neighbours? Who the hell gave them rights to demand such stpd things in the first place?!

Maybe in those days neighbours used to be close and stuff, but I'm sure they cant mean more than one's own family... What will these ppl do? Cut electricity? Cut water connection? Uh? Exactly karenge kya? The only thing they can actually do is that they might not call them for their daughter's or sons mrgs, bday parties n stuff.. dats all nah? what big deal!!

Nw a days, ppl dnt even knw if sm1 lives nxt door or not n smtyms I used to feel sad, abt my parents stories about their childhood neighbours and frens... But nw seeing all this I think, current times r better... apne kaam se kaam rakho... If help is needed then help, but otherwise keep the interaction to minimum... Good for everybdy involved...

I think they are doing it for drama. In real life even on 90s, I don't think people in cities would have gone and asked their neighbors to throw their daughters out. What they would have done is to boycott the family. It's ok if Tau and Tai boycott MEgha's parents. But to ask her parents to throw their daughter out...I mean seriously who gave them the right to say that.
I am also quite disturbed with the fact that this Rakesh keeps slapping Sameer. Raising hand on someone else's child is certainly not 90s...nanu should protest. Rakesh can use his mouth to curse Sameer. But rasing his hand on Sameer is crossing all limits.😡
