"Sameer!Where is Naina? '' Lochan Sir asked for the fifth time in 10 minutes of waiting.

"She has not come''. Sameer replied in equal frustration with Naina's delay.

"Just someone go and find her. You both have to be present on the stage in just 10 minutes.Sameer go and find her.'' Lochan sir instructed while keeping eyes on the proceedings on the stage.

"Arjun!'' Sameer called as he spotted Arjun standing alone near the Teachers' seating area.Arjun looked up to find Sameer running towards him while lines of worriedness etched on his forehead.

"Arjun! Naina had gone to academic building and she has n't returned yet.Please come with me.We need to find her as soon as possible.'' Sameer informed and signaled Munna and Pandit to join him.

"Okay so since we are only 4 in number we better split into two groups.Arjun and I would search in senior academic block and Munna and Pandit in primary academic block.'' Sameer clarified and did a thumbs up.

"Done.Let's go guys''. Arjun said as they ran towards the academic buildings.

"Anyone outside?Please help.Anyone there?'' Naina called for the nth time but not a single soul could hear her cries.

"Oh! God! Where am I stuck.Sameer and Lochan Sir would be definitely angry with me.God! Please help.'' Naina murmured in tension.

"Naina! Are you there? ''She heard Sameer's faint voice.A hope built in her heart.

"Naina! ''Sameer called and stopped seeing Kamya.''Kamya! Have you seen Naina here?''

"No Sameer! I have n't seen her since this evening.Oh!Wait.I had seen her go to the primary block.'' Kamya informed and left.

"Primary block? But what would she do in the primary block?'' He questioned himself while he realised a thing.

"Oh! Shit! If she is in primary block,I don't think Munna or Pandit would be able to find her.'' Sameer ran to the primary block without caring that he had already lost 10 minutes in searching.

"Sameer Bhaiya! Lochan Sir is calling you.Come fast. ''A boy informed him as he sat dejected on the stairs to primary block.

"With this we have come to end of formal inauguration programme.I would now request the hosts of today's evening Sameer and Naina to take hold of the stage now.Please welcome Sameer Maheshwari and..''Lochan Sir stopped midway as he saw Sameer signalling that Naina was not present.

"Please welcome Sameer Maheshwari and with a big round of applause.'' Lochan Sir's words ended while cheers and whistles burst open.

"Sameer! The stage cannot be left blank,take charge.'' Lochan Sir comforted Sameer and Sameer went up on the stage.

"Reverence to the invited guests of the evening and to my esteemed teachers.A big hello to my schoolmates.It's a great moment of pride for me to be offered an opportunity to host the evening of school Annual Function.Thank you Lochan Sir in believing my abilities. Naina! Where are you? Come to the stage.Naina! Oops I am sorry.She is definitely busy reading the chapters for the exams.Well if you all think this school has academic toppers like Naina we are no less in topping in extra corriculars. Give a big hand for the school choir team who have stood toppers for 3 consecutive years in the state-level competition.They are here to present a beautiful song.Please welcome them with applause.'' Sameer said and left the stage.

"Good job Sameer! You handled the situation really well.'' Lochan Sir thumped Sameer's back in joy.

Meanwhile

"Oh! God! Sameer is already on stage.Somebody please help.'' Naina called out more desperately.

"This is Naina's voice.Naina! Where are you?'' Arjun rose his pitch a bit higher.

"Bhaiya! Thank god.Bhaiya! I AM HERE.''She shouted to the maximum.

"Naina! You in the washroom''. Arjun tried confirming the location.

"Yes Bhaiya! I am locked.'' Naina said with desperation and building frustration.

The door clicks open and Naina excitedly jumps onto Arjun.

"Careful dear.Let's go.We are already late.Sameer has gone upto stage.''' Arjun spoke as he held her hand to literally run towards the stage.

"Bhaiya! Wait a bit ''She calls him and bends to take off the heels off.Holding them in hands she ran barefooted to the stage.Panting and heaving.

"Sameer! ''He heard someone call his name.This someone called him with a certain sweetness laced in the tone.His own name never sounded more better, more sweeter.

He turned to look and finally found her wearing the heels.

"Naina! Where were you?'' He asked trying to be angry with her disappearance and delay.

"Sorry Sameer! Somebody had locked the washroom door from outside.'' Naina pleaded guilty.

"You were in washroom of ..?'' He trailed and awaited for her reply.

"Of secondary block which is near class 9 sections''. Naina completed the statement.

"What? You were there and I was there but why I didn't check that corridor? ''Sameer asked Naina though he was trying hard to find the answer.

Suddenly he realised something and he got a clearer frame.He had seen Kamya following after Naina ,he had seen her in the corridor and also it was she who informed him that she had seen Naina in the primary block.Shit! He was such a fool not to notice these.

"How could I know why you didn't search for me?'' Naina asked naively.

"Yeah.Okay leave that.Thank god you are safe and back on time.'' Sameer smiled and they discussed the lines for the next event.

The next event was of felicitation. Naina was felicitated with the Pragati Memorial Award for being the topper in the state in board exams.She even bagged the highest scorer awards straightaway in Maths,Science and Hindi.

"Congratulations Naina.'' He was suddenly feeling proud of her achievements though it was only for her that he was on the verge of being rusticated from the school twice.

"Thank you Sameer.'' She was happy first and elated now.While winning the prizes made her happy ,a simple congratulation from him made her the happiest person of the universe at that moment.

"Sameer! Naina! Come here.'' Lochan Sir called.

"Yes! Sir.'' Both responded in chorus.

"We are now going to start the cultural session. This second number event has to be announced first. ''Sir pointed out.

"But Sir! Why the second one?'' Sameer asked in curiosity.

"The first one is a skit.Principal Sir wants the session to start with a dance number.So this change.''Sir clarified.

"But Sir! Are the performers ready'' Naina asked in confusion since she could n't see any of the artists there.

"Yes! Yes! They are ready.They will report soon near the stage.You both just go in few seconds.'' Sir said and left to check on the other arrangements.

"Sameer!'' She called and he found her face scrounge in a ghost of fear.

"What happened Naina?Any problem? '' He whispered to her as they ascended the stage.

"I think... ''The spotlight fell on them as they came upon the stage.She couldn't complete her sentence.

"Now it's time for some romance.Presenting to you students of Class 8 and 9 performing on some famous hits of the Bollywood.Come on.Give them a cheer.'' Sameer announced only to notice Naina shivering beside him.

"Sameer! They are not prepared.I was going to tell you this.'' Naina spoke in his ear while all looked up in bated excitement for the performance.

"Naina! Let's do it.'' He comforted her and held her hand.

As Naina was taken aback by utter surprise

Bheegi bheegi rut mein tum hum hum tum'' plays...

'Sameer !What are you doing?I can't dance.'' She spoke through her teeth plastering a smile on face for the audience.

As he drew her closer he whispered "Do you believe in me?''

"Ofcourse.But seriously I can't dance and its more difficult in heels''.She was tensed,worried and nervous.

"Leave that to me.Just listen to the lyrics,hold my hand and look into my eyes ''.He whispered as the song started playing.

Rimjhim Rimjhim Rum jhum Rum jhum
Bheegi bheegi rut mein, tum hum, hum tum
Chalte hain, chalte hain

She felt his fingers intertwining with her fingers with a firmness.She blushed and walked with him to the front matching his steps.

With the starting of the next lyrics,she broke free from him and danced to the lines.

Ho bajta hai jal tarang
Teen ki chat pe jab
Motiyon jaisa jal barse
Boondon ki yeh jhadi

She felt her duppatta being pulled and she landed nearly on him with a swift twirl.
Laai hai woh ghadi
Jiske liye hum tarse

He stumbled a bit yet held her firmly.The slow caresses on her waist chain shocked her out of wits. She looked at his face to gauge his emotions.

The confusing emotions on his face worsened the case more.She vanquished the remaining thoughts of dancing on her own.She decided to become "puppet in his hands and think of the consequences later.

Rim jhim rim jhim, rum jhum rum jhum
Bheegi bheegi rut mein, tum hum, hum tum

Her breath hitched as his fingers stroked the back midriff with a flash.

She looked into his eyes and he was already staring.

The lyrics had started making sense to not only Naina but also him.His mind was not accepting but his heart had already started realizing.

Baadal ki chadrein odhe hain waadiyan
Saari dishayein soyi hain

"Naina!Just take a twirl and fall''.He whispered.

''I can't fall'' She said trying to comprehend the meaning.''Fall in my arms''.He cleared sensing her confusion.
Sapnon ke gaaon mein
Bheegi si chhaanv mein
Do aatmaayein khoi hain

As she takes the twirl,she closed her eyes.She was somewhere sure that he wouldn't let her fall and she would n't stumble in the fall.Closing out all anxieties and apprehensions she let her body hit the gravity.

Aayi hain dekhane jheelon ke aaine
Baalon ko khole ghatayein
Raahein dhuan dhuan
Jaayenge hum kahaan
Aao yahin reh jaayein

He held her by her waist. As they strike a perfect ballroom pirouette he noticed her kohl adorned closed eyes and a smile adorning the plum coloured lips. She looked all the more alluring with those droplets of sweat on her forehead.

She opened her eyes as she heard the sweet melody of song replaced by loud cheer of once more' once more'.She lifted herself straight as she realised she was in his arms and was clutching the lapels of his suit.

She was terrifyingly shy and looked flushed.

Breaking free from his hold she climbed down the stairs of the stage leaving him alone on the stage to take charge of the rest.

"So this was just a glimpse to the performance. Enjoy the performance and drown in the world of love. ''Sameer announced and descended down the stage.

"Bhai! What was that? We saw Diwali at the time of Holi.You both were ...Patakha''.'Munna exclaimed and hugged his brother.

'And Man! She danced sorry cooperated so gracefully.Is there something between you two? If there is anything ,please put an end to that.Her father, Librarian would rip you apart.'' Pandit calculated the consequences.

"Don't worry.That was all for saving the prestige of the school.The performers were not ready so..'' Sameer tried to clarify.

"Where is Naina? ''He asked not finding her within his eye's range.

"We don't know.Better go and search her once again. ''Pandit pushed Sameer towards the greenroom area with a wink and a wolf whistle.

"Naina!'' he called her as he spotted her near the greenroom door.Are you fine.

"I am .sorry..if..you felt..uncomfortable.'' He said; to which she looked upto him and flashed her innocent smile.

"Don't be sorry.We held it together that is important.We didn't embarrass Lochan Sir.That counts.'' She said and saw the anxious emotion wiped from his face.

"Thank you for understanding.Let's go to host the rest .'' He flashed his smile and she followed him.

After the end of function, Principal and Lochan Sir praised them for being the best hosts of the evening.The function was a grand success.

Little did Naina knew this tranquil breeze of happiness was the indicator of a violent storm.

As they were parting goodbyes for the night..

"Naina!'' She heard her Taiji call.

"Taiji!'' She turned to look and found the fury in her Tauji and Taiji's eyes.Chachaji had a stoic expression while Chachiji had nervousness written all over her face.

"Bhare bhid mein ese sabke saamne naachne se tujhe sharam nahi aai.Wo bhi ek paraye,anjaan ladke ke saath? ''(Didn't you feel shame while dancing that to with a stranger boy in the crowd.?) Taiji spoke with anger spitting in each word,each syllable.

"Ghar chal abhi dikhati hun ki kaise naachte hein.''(Let's go to home.I will show you how to dance.) Taiji held her hands and pulled her towards the gate while Sameer looked up in shock.
