for producer Ekta Kapoor's TV show Yeh Hai
Mohabattein in 2013, she didn't expect it to
be the biggest high of her career till date.
The ongoing show has completed 1500
episodes and has been raking in good
ratings on the small screen for five years
now. The actor says, "When you take on a
show, you want it to be a huge success.
How long it lasts is up to the audiences. Our
storyline has always been interesting, not
just for the audiences but the cast too. It
has not dragged on which makes us actors
happy and satisfied to be part of a show.
Though it's been five years, we haven't
reached a stagnation point yet.
Divyanka had to deal with a lot of flak for
the derogatory remarks that her character
receives on the show including being called
a barren woman by her husband. Ask her if
it is tough to enact scenes which are
against her personal beliefs, where she is
abused, and she says, "That scene was
harsh and it is tough (to act) but you have
remember that ultimately I am an actor.
Moreover, my character has time and again
stood up for women and women's rights
and never taken any ill-treatment lying
down. What was perhaps unexpected is the
reaction of fans who created hashtags on
social media asking for the show to be shut
down due to this storyline. It was uncalled
for. Social media can be funny and
interesting at times. People create random
hashtags and others join in without
realising what they are becoming a part of.
Recently when trolls attacked your husband
Vivek Dahiya claiming he does not share
anything related to you on social media,
and that he does not love you anymore, you
gave them a piece of your mind. You have
responded to trolls in the past too. Why?
She says, "Why not? As a celebrity, I have a
relationship with my fans and followers on
social media. I feel when they express an
opinion that I don't agree with or which
isn't true, I prefer clarifying the same rather
than letting it slide and fester. In any
relationship be it personal or on social
media, there has to be a give and take. It
can't be one-sided. Talking out things or
explaining your side diffuses problems.
That's how I feel about my fans.
