"Secret hideout??" she asked confused.
"Hmmm... My secret hideout! No one knows about it. Only me, and now you too! Whenever I feel lost, I come here. This place gives me a strange kind of peace." He said as he closed his eyes and took in a deep breathe.
"I can see that!" Ishita said as she looked at him. He looked calm and peaceful.
He smiled at her reply flashing his dimples slightly.
"This place has been my companion since when Shagun left me. I still remember that day, when she announced she wants divorce. I was so devastated. I didn't know what to do? What would be a wise decision, to let her go or try and make her stay! I was confused, worried, sad, dejected, angry, disgusted and what not? Everything was getting on my nerves, and I needed space. I needed answers to my questions and I decided to find them. On one fine morning, while everyone was in deep slumber, I went out for a walk. I kept on wandering aimlessly on roads of Delhi, not knowing where I was going. I just kept on following my steps and went where ever they took me." He said as he sipped his coffee. He noticed Ishita's hand holding his hand tightly. He held them more tightly. "I ended up here! The aura of this place took over me in no time. I felt at peace after a long time. I sat here for long hours, thinking about every possibility, analyzing every consequence of my decisions. How I ignored the warnings of massive destruction coming in my way and everything else! When I left this place, I was very much sure and clear about my next step! Maybe I needed some time for self-realization and I got it here. So this place is close to my heart as you are!"
Ishita looked at him and said, "We don't hurt those who are close to our heart!" her words reflected the hurt so did her glassy eyes.
"Nahi! We hurt them the most! Unknowingly, many times!"
"Why do we do that then?"
"Maybe because we feel that they understand us and our unsaid words!"
"Exactly, Raman, We think that they understand us but in reality they don't."
"Ishita, I don't expect forgiveness. I just want you to know that you didn't deserve what happened between us. I am sincerely sorry for that. I know I have let you down many times. It is silly of me that I keep on hurting you, while you always try to fill my life with colors of love and happiness. "
"It doesn't matter, Raman. Whatever I do is my duty. There is no compulsion on your edge to reciprocate the same; my silly expectations hurt me."
"It does matter a lot! If taking care of my family, children, and house is your duty then, I too have some duties towards you. You are the one thing in my life that I am supposed to love, protect and value above all else. I'll try my very best to make sure I never lose sight of what's important again. I'm so very sorry I let you down."
"Raman, I know when you get angry you actually lose the sense of judging your words. You keep on blabbering thing which you don't even feel. But, you know what? It hurts Raman. It really does and I will neither deny this nor will try to hide it this time. Sometimes I feel that you have started to take me for-granted, Raman." Ishita said trying to control her tears.
"I can be irresponsible with anything and anyone other than my children. I can never harm them. You know, for years, society has taunted me for my inability to become mother. They have called me barren right on my face. You don't know how hurting those words are? No one can ever imagine how precious those two little lives are for me. I know how much they mean to me. They have completed me. You may call me anything. Call me an irresponsible wife or daughter in law... or... anything! But an irresponsible mother."
Raman shook his head as he was patiently listening. He felt guilty and disgusted for hurting her so much.
She continued, "I know I may act over protective or over possessive about them. I might behave a bit insecure too. But I can't help it, Raman. I really can't. I have seen things slipping from my hands like sand. I can't afford to let them slip away."
"You will never lose them. I promise you that! You don't have be insecure regarding them. They are your children and no one can ever take them away from you. Not even me!" He finally managed to say. "It's not you; it's me who is the irresponsible one. Believe me or not, but you are the best mother my children could have get. You are the one who actually showed them what exactly mother's love feels like. Ishita, trust me, me and my children are the luckiest in the world because we have you."
She looked at him with teary eyes. He moved forward to wipe the tears and cupped her face, "You have completed me with your unconditional love and support. I can never thank you enough for that. You are the best thing that has happened to me. Like you cannot afford to lose them, I cannot afford to lose you."
"Really?" she asked.
"I can swear on anything you wish." He replied. His voice was so sincere that she couldn't help but smile. He hugged her tightly, "I love you, JKR. I promise I will try my best to change myself for you."
"I love you too, Ravan Kumar. You don't have any other option, do you?"
"Naah!" he replied and both of them laughed.
Ishita broke the hug as she realized that they were still in the park.
"Kya Madrasan, hug bhi nahi karne deti!"
(What madrasan, you don't even let me hug)
"Just see where we are right now at least?"
"Oh please, yeh saare toh bahane hai, sach bolne mein sharam aati hai kya?"
(Oh please, these are all excuses, do you feel embarrassed to say the truth.)
"Kaisa sach?" she demanded.
(What truth?)
"Yehi ke jab tum apne handsome pati ko hug karti ho toh tumse control nahi hota."
(It is like whenever you hug your handsome husband, you cannot control urself.)
"Haww... cheap!" she pouted and both of them laughed out loud.
"On a serious note, hume Ruhi ko lene jana hai yaa yeh ravan kumar ki koi sazish thi? "
(On a serious note, do we have to go to get ruhi or it was all a plan of yours)
"Nahi.. lene jana hai par abhi usme time hai."
(No we have to go but there is still time to that)
"Toh phir now what??"
"Abhi we will talk, there are many things that still needs to be sorted out."
"Hmmm...so what's on priority?"
"Adi."
"Yes we seriously need to talk about him."
"Ishita, main jaanta hoon ki tumne jo kiya who kuch soch samajh ke kiya hoga, but in my opinion it was wrong. Iss se Adi ko lagega that we don't trust him and that is not the truth. It will create unnecessary misunderstanding between you two."
(Ishita I know whatever you did, you must have a reason behind it but in my opinion it was wrong. It will make him feel that we don't trust him and that is not the truth. . It will create unnecessary misunderstanding between you two)
Raman tried to reason his point. Ishita was quiet for a while after which she spoke,
"You know I think you are right! I was silly of me to put nanny cam in his room. Oh god! I am feeling so guilty. Use meri wajah se Vinnie ke samne embarrass hona pada hoga na. Shit, mujhe Vandu Akka ki baat nahi maan ni chahiye thi."
(You know I think you are right! I was silly of me to put nanny cam in his room. Oh god! I am feeling so guilty. He must have been very embarrassed in front of Vinnie. Shit, I shouldn't have listened to Vandu Akka's advice.)
"Oh I see! Toh yeh Vandu ke dimag ki pakayi khichdi thi!"
(Oh I see! So it was all Vandu's plan.)
"Yeah, main toh ready bhi nahi thi but she said I am his mother and I have right to know about everything. So I am not doing anything wrong."
(Yeah, I was not even ready for all this but she said I am his mother and I have right to know about everything. So I am not doing anything wrong.)
"Sach mein tum madrasiyon ka dimag kuch jyada hi chalta hai. Itna jitney ki zaroorat bhi nahi hoti."
(Really, you tamil people use your brain a lot. Even when you don't need to.)
"Kuch bhi.. haan!"
(anything!)
"Khair, Adi needs to be handled carefully. He is a teenager aur who bhi Punjabi. You see the seriousness!" he tried to light up the situation.
(Anyways, Adi needs to be handled carefully. He is a teenager that too Punjabi. You see the seriousness.)
"I agree, and we cannot do this until you stop pampering him."
Raman raised his eyebrow confused.
"Don't act too innocent!" she warned and he looked down sheepishly.
"Raman, I know Adi aap se bahout saal door rahe hai. Jab tak who aap ke saath tha tab aap usko woh facilities aur luxuries nahi de sakte jo app ab de sakte hai. Isseliye aap usko pamper kar rahe and you are trying to make up for all those missed years. Right??"
(Raman, I know you have stayed away from Adi for many years. Till the time he was with you could not give him those facilities and luxuries that you can afford now. that's why you want to pamper him and make up for all the lost years. Right??)
He nodded still looking down.
"Raman, look at me and talk." She commanded. He looked at her and pain was clearly visible in his eyes.
"Raman, I understand how much this hurts... but we cannot spoil him owing to all those things that took place in past. You just mentioned that he needs to handle carefully. So you have to understand, leniency and over pampering will only make the things worse. He will get used to it...after sometime we will regret it. You know any how those missed years cannot be brought back but we have the chance to do everything in our control to make his future bright and secure!"
"So what do you expect that I should not pamper him at all??" Raman asked, a bit furious.
"I didn't say that... did I? You should pamper him, but to a certain extent. He is in very tender phase of life and everything will influence him. As parents it is our duty to guide him, make him aware of what is right and what is wrong! Don't you think so?"
"Yeah, you are right!" he said as he let out a sigh. "My emotions overpower me to a great extent when it comes to Adi...and this needs to be changed!" he agreed with her.
"My god! Handling a teenager is so difficult!"
"I agree!"
"Look it was so easy! Talk and solve...far better than fighting!"
"Lekin ladne ka maza lag he hai!"
(But the joy of fighting is different!)
"Tabhi aap usme mahir ho..."
(yeah thatswhy you are a champion in that.)
"Toh kya karoon tumhari harkate hi aisi hai...naa chhate hue bhi gussa aa jata hai! Kal mere ache khase mood ki band bajaa di tumne, madrasan!"
(What should I do, you do such things that one gets angry unwillingly. Yesterday, you spoiled my mood madrasan.)
"Maine band bajai... Ladna aur chillana kisne shuru kiya.. aap ne mood kharab kiya mera bhi aur apna bhi! "
(I spoiled your mood... who started shouting and fighting... you spoiled my mood and yours too!)
"Achha abb ladna shuru na kar Maatangi"
(Alright don't start fighting now, Maatangi)
"Stop calling me Maatangi! I am Ishita Bhalla...!" she said irritated.
"Okay fine! Maaf kar mujhe..." he said folding his hands in front of her.
(Okay fine! Spear me...)
"Tathastu!" she said, raising her palm straight like god. "Okay! Abb bata kya karna hai?"
(Okay now tell me what to do?)
She glanced around park and said, "Bhutta khate hai!"
(Let's eat corn!)
"Bhokadd, tujhe abhi khane ki padhi hai. Tabhi main sochu bhais ki tarah felti kyu jaa rahi hai!"
(You are still thinking about food. Thatswhy you have started to look like a buffalo)
"Lets go!" she said as she pulled Raman's hand and started walking towards the stall. They bought a single Bhutta and shared it. They went on walking hands in hands... talking about random things. Raman plucked a rose from the nearby bush and tucked it in her hairs, "Kal gajre laya tha!"(Yesterday, I brought some gajras for you) She blushed scarlett red. The ambience was very romantic with all flowers and light drizzling. As they were walking suddenly it started raining heavily. He grabbed Ishita's hand and pulled her in a shelter nearby. Loads of people were there under the shelter. A musical band was also there playing light piano tune. Ishita was completely enjoying the moment. Her eyes sparkled seeing rain. This was definitely not missed by Raman. Something crazy came into his mind. He stepped ot in rain and offered his hand to her, "Kyu Madrasan? Ek baar phir ho Jaye?"
The crowd around started cheering for them... she reluctantly placed her hand in his hand. He pulled her in the rain a soft music began filling the atmosphere. He placed his hand on her waist and she grabbed his shoulder. Both of them began grooving to the music, with their eyes locked. They were in completely different world. He swirled her around and again got hold of her waist. Their faces were inches apart, completely lost into each other's eyes. She rested her head on his chest and both of them swayed to the music. He rested his head on her head and closed his eyes, enjoying the moment to the fullest. She too hugged him tightly, closing her eyes, oblivious to the world watching them. They stayed in that position until the crowd began applauding for them. This brought them back to the world. They broke their hug. Ishita was way too embarrassed. If it was possible for her melt then she would have turned into a puddle. Both of them smiled and bowed to the crowd. They relived their Kuch kuch hota hai moment. This was rain of forgiveness, rain of passion, rain of love and a rain to remember!!
