Chapter 4
"Raman, she's asking for her mom! What do we do?"
"Now where do I get a mom from?"
"Mumma!" the girl started to wail and angered Raman further.
"Man I'll go crazy if she doesn't stop."
"Beta come here." Ishita gently smiled at the small child while Raman turned away unaffected by all that was happening.
The girl was scared seeing Raman's yelling and what all that she had seen in the past hours, she wouldn't trust any stranger in any situation right now.
"Trust me we won't hurt you. And it was your mom who told us to take you with us." Ishita tried to explain.
"Where's mumma?" the child asked innocently.
"You will meet her very soon."
"Promise?"
"Don't worry you will be with your mom very soon! Now come with us until then." She opened her arms and slowly walked towards the girl. The child on the other hand kept on looking at him who was boiling with anger. He looked at one of those angry old men who yelled at you for accidently walking on their lawn. She took a step back again looking at him and Ishita noticed. Walking closer to the child, she quietly whispered to her...
"He looks scary, but he's nice!"
He looked at the small child and gave a fake grin he forced himself into as he got a glare from Ishita. The girl though she tried to remember her mom's rules about strangers couldn't help herself from smiling and agreeing to go along with the two people.
"So I'm Ishita and he's Raman. What's your name?" she asked as they walked back to the car to see if he could do something to get it started and if not they still needed their bags.
"Ruhi." She replied cheekily as they reached the car.
As the two girl waited for him to finishing checking why the dented car wouldn't start, Ishita heard Ruhi's stomach growl. Opening the trunk to take out her camping bag, Ishita pulled out an energy bar and handed it to Ruhi with a smile.
"I don't want that. I don't like it." She whined like any child of her age.
"Okay I'll get something else." She told the girl and wondered what she would want.
She thought of asking Raman, but then knew she would get a weird answer in return or a taunt considering his dislike for kids. She carefully peered over at him standing behind the open bonnet of the car where he was busy trying to fix the car. He looked so tired and had grease, blood and sweat on his face. Feeling concerned for him, she went back to her bag and pulled out a water bottle for him.
"Put a band aid on that cut please." She asked handing him the bottle as he pulled out his handkerchief wiping off his face.
"I'll do it later. Right now I need to get this car started." He said taking a break to drink the water.
"Raman what do kids like to eat?" she asked in one go earning a confused look from him.
"How am I supposed to know?"
"I don't know!"
"Then why did you ask me? Not like I have kids!"
"I thought with the amount of girlfriends you've had, you must have ended up with a kid or two."
"Oh really Madrasan?! Actually who knows maybe secretly I am already a dad? After all I have been with "hanging out" with quite a few people." He smirked at her
"Chee Raman! You're so shameless."
"Chee Raman, so shameless." He mimicked her.
"You are disgusting!"
"Are you just saying that because you're not one of those girls yet? Wait I forgot you probably want to get married first."
"Who wants to be the girlfriend or wife of Ravan Kumar?! I'm better off single!" she marched off declaring she wanted nothing to do with him.
"Jhansi Ki Rani, I hate kids, but how awesome would it be if you had small little Ravans?!"
"Excuse me?!" she turned back.
"I said I know how you are showing ignorance, but come on don't we all know any woman would like to mother small innocent Ravans."
"Shut up Raman, you're just so annoying!" she started to walk away only to get pulled back by him.
"Am I?!"
He came closer to her making her lean back. She bumped into the car and knew there was no way out. She closed her eyes as he came closer enough that she could feel his breath on her...
"Raman..."
"What Raman? Huh?"
He lifted her chin with his finger and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear giving her goosebumps. He leaned in closer to her and brought his mouth near her the tucked in strand.
"Do you not feel anything for me?" he whispered to her.
She opened her eyes as his warm breath blew on the crook of her cold neck. He noticed a small scratch by her neck and ran his fingers over it. She hissed as his fingers trailed the scratch making him back off. He looked at her as her eyes were still shut tight. Cupping her face, he made her open her eyes. She found a softer look that he had hardly showed to anyone. Seeing his concerned face, she also loosened her stiff body and gave him a look that reflected his. He brought her face near his and started to leaned over bringing their lips closer and then...
"Aunty! Where are you?!" Ruhi's voice interrupted them.
"I'm coming! Raman move aside." She gently pushed him aside and went off to Ruhi who was wondering where they had disappeared all of a sudden. As she ran over to attend the child, he found his palm meeting his forehead.
"There are more haddis in my romance than in my body!" he muttered and walked behind her to see what they would do now in this forested area with a small child in tow. What had their trip become?
