It's more of guilt on his part. All he gives her is insecurity. She's in it for Ruhi. He needs her, so he's basically trapping her with Ruhi. What if he lets Ruhi? Would she stay?

The story losely follows the show adding to the bit from chapter 16 #thepast and moves away from the show after Amma's accident. The Ishita breaking down bit. Ishita who previously decided to give the relationship an equal shot from her side decides against and talks to Raman about being friends raising a kid rather than strangers or spouses who couldn't stand each other.

But Ishita falls for Raman with every little thing he does for her that go unnoticed by him but mean so much to her?

And Raman, Ishita means more to him than a stranger he married for his daughter.
