WOW! This is really wonderful. I love your writing style and this idea is just the kind of balm we all need right now... and something that ISHRA needs as well.

Completely agree with you that this needs to be explored on screen
Love this so far, very realistic- the encounter, the self doubt and the silence.

Can't wait for the next update.

And special mention to your title- SEP and now JM, you are a girl after my own heart. Terrific job!😊

Part 2 - Solace

When they reached home, everyone was around the dinning table.Toshiji greeted them warmly and asked them to join for dinner. They both carried on as if nothing happened.They ate and interacted with the family members like their usual routine.No one noticed or guessed that something is amiss between them.

In the bedroom, each slept on their respective side of bed.Ruhi wanted to sleep with her grandmother so she was not present between them to fill the silence with chatter.

Raman laid on his back and stared at the ceiling fan without actually looking at it.His thoughts kept revolving around Subbu. 'They say it's hard to forget your first love.So is it hard for her? They were together for what, 12 years and I don't even know her for a year now,' He brooded.His heart tried to remind him that time is not the criteria, it's the understanding between two persons that matter.

Till today he was very sure of their bond.He thought they came a long way from where they began.With each supporting the other in their turmoils.He couldn't have wished for a better life even if he prayed religiously. But he was also sure that with Subbu, her life would have been less complicated and he was equally sure that Subbu didn't deserve Ishita.

He remembered the times he hurt her.The words he threw at her,for Adi's sake.He didn't really mean them,It was his frustration that spoke that day.And he also knew his Ishita, she is not the one to hold grudges. He vowed to himself that If they cross this hurdle, he will make sure that she never regrets marrying him.

He turned towards Ishita. She was sleeping with her back to him.He wasn't sure whether she was asleep or awake.He extended his hand to touch her but immediately withdrew it. He mulled over it and finally decided not to wake her at this time.But he promised himself, first thing in the morning he would talk to her.

With these thoughts in his mind he finally dozed off.

Ishita on the other side was in her own swirl.Subbu's words kept ringing in her head.

Her thoughts led her to Ruhi. Ruhi's words "Ishima, Why was I not in your tummy" came back to her.Two tear drops escaped her eyes and she began sobbing silently.She bit her lower-lip not wanting to make any noise. "How I wish , it were true" She thought. She also knew for her and Ruhi it doesnt matter.Ruhi is her daughter,and she is Ruhi's mother.

Atleast Ruhi doesn't care,whether I can be a mother or not ' She reflected.

As soon as that thought crossed her mind she immediately chided herself."When did Raman ever gave you that idea', her heart questioned. Like a show reel all the instances when he was sensitive and empathetic played on her mind.'Raman wishing for her to be Adi's real mom.Him not letting her ponder on the step mom thing.Standing up for her against Subbu's mom.'

But all these didn't answer the basic question that is eating her away.'Will it be the same, if they had met in other circumstances.'

She turned to the other side and saw Raman sleeping there on his back.She extended her hand to caress his fore head but immediately withdrew it.She kept staring at him and eventually dozed off.

In the morning, Raman was ready and was nervously waiting for Ishita in their bedroom.She bought the ironed clothes and put them in the cupboard and was about leave.

"Ishita,Can you please come here for a sec",He called.

Ishita ,who was still lost in her thought , was puzzled and for the first time since yesterday actually looked at him. For some reason,he seemed tense to her. She slowly crossed the distance and asked "Is everything ok,Raman".

He put his hands around her shoulder and made her sit on the sofa and kneeled down infront of her.

We a slight pause, He asked"Are you happy , Ishita."

Now she was genuinely puzzled and immediately asked him "What!!!! I mean what happened?"

Raman took a deep breath,searched for words and blurted out "You know , you can share anything with me. I want to know whether you are Ok. Is seeing him again reminded you of the past and are you upset because of that?"

Ishita immediately sensed his thought process.She was happy that Raman could read her distress but she also knew,he came to a wrong conclusion.

With a determined voice she spoke"Raman, Iam so happy with you.I don't have any fond memories left of Subbu.Please don't ever think that.All those are tainted now.If I ever look back, I feel nothing.In hindsight it's not that difficult to accept that he left me. The signs were all there, I just couldn't recognize them then."

"What I have now is very precious.I cherish every moment of it. I don't even want it any other way." She continued.

"You are perfect for me.The way you understand me.The way you are there for me,no one can even come close. The way you think about me.The way you bicker with me,everything is just perfect. Don't let that idiot mess with your head. Even in my dreams, I cannot be more happier than this." She finished with a smile.

A wide smile creeped on to his face,but he didn't let go.He knew something upset her yesterday, so he further probed"Then why are you sad since yesterday".

This time she fumbled. She wanted to ask him "Do you love me, Raman" but the words never came out. Instead she replied "I was reflecting about life in general. You know,How it turned out? How happy Iam now and all."

Somehow he was not convinced with that answer but he didn't press further. Instead with a smile he questioned, "If this is how you look when you are happy, I don't want to see you when you are sad and reflecting about life."

That earned him a smile from her,she leaned forward and kissed him on his right cheek with a whispered "Thank you for everything,Raman".

"You know what, I have a better spot for you to thank me" He winked. With a smile she got up and replied "I bet , you do" and left from there.

She fell into her routine but couldn't forget Subbu's words. She knew more than Subbu's words , it's her own insecurity that is not letting her sleep this down.She kept mulling about it whenever she was free. She didn't even know how she can talk this out with Raman or What is there to talk about. She didn't want his pity.She is not ready for his answer.She didn't want to open the pandora box,at the same time she couldn't completely ignore it.

One evening she came home after work and she found no one in the hall.But she heard voices from her mother-in-law's room.She heard Raman and Toshiji talking.She was about to go to her room but their conversation halted her.

"How can this happen? Now what will happen to my family?Adi stays with Shagun, Ishita can't conceive and now Romi too can't be a father. Mata Rani, what will happen to my vansh" Toshiji sobbed hysterically.

Raman's voice boomed from the room."Mom, that's enough.In what archaic society are you living? I always let you get away with your favoritism to Adi since he rarely stays with us but this is entirely unacceptable.You are lucky to have grandchildren. Every child is a treasure, irrespective of whether it is a boy or a girl. Instead of counting your blessings, you are worried about your vansh. Did you even think , what Romi is going through with this.This is not the end of the world.Don't make it impossibble for him.Let him live his life."

" I love my children and I can't even imagine my life without them.But If I had met Ishita before Shagun,I would have married her without slightest hesitation and I would still be the luckiest man on earth.If we wanted children we would have adopted them.That doesn't make her any less of a mother or me a less of a father.I wish that she were the biological mother of my children because she is the greatest mother I could ask for.It's a blessing to have a child with her.But that alone doesn't define us or our relationship."

" I don't love her for her ability or inability to have children.I love her for herself.I love her attitude.I love her personality.I love her selflessness and I love the way she cares about everyone around. So please dont ever bring this again." With those final words,he stormed from there. He directly went to his room and didn't notice Ishita in the hall.

Ishita stood rooted to the ground and tears started flowing down her eyes.
For the first time in weeks she felt light hearted.She was elated and she couldn't control her happiness. With teary eyes and a wide smile she rushed to their room. He was on phone and looked at her with a raised eyebrow seeing her teary face.She closed the door and slammed into him.

He gathered her close and informed that he would call back to the person on the phone and cut the call. He threw the cell on the bed and wound his hands around her.

She began sobbing uncontrollably.

"Do you want to tell me what happened? " he asked pushing her hair away from her face.

She moved her head in negation on his chest and slowly lifted her crown to look into his face. With twinkling eyes and a watery smile on her lips she looked directly into his eyes and confessed "I love You,Raman."

He chuckled & asked,"And that made you hysterical."

She smacked him and buried her face further into his chest.

"Did you hear what I said to my mother,downstairs"He guessed. She nodded to that.

"And that came as a surprise to you,"He asked genuinely puzzled.Without replying,she borrowed further into him.

He pulled her from his chest,and with his hands on her cheek, he replied"What we have is something wonderful,don't let anything or anyone convince you otherwise."
Since she was finding it difficult to speak,she again nodded to that.

He squeezed her one more time, and with a cheeky smile questioned "So, I won? ...right".

Now she was the one who was lost, with puzzling eyes she asked "What?"

"You are the one who first said the words" He answered with his smile wide now.

For a second , she didn't grasp his meaning and when it finally registered,she pushed him back and with a glint in her eyes she replied. "Nice try but No, I didn't say it first? You said it first in the hall"

"Oh, But that doesn't count...Since it was said to someone else" He pointed out.

Now outright laughing she searched the room for any object and finding a pillow near the bed, she took it in her hand and began chasing him around the bed.She kept shouting "You cheater!!!!" .

After running around for a bit , they both fell on the bed laughing hysterically. He moved forward and placed his lips on her forehead with a whispered " I love you". With a radiant smile, she snuggled into him and replied "I love You too".

This was a perfect ending to the story. I loved it

No one can get Ishita over her fears or insecurity except Raman and Ruhi.

Fantastic Update. It was emotional and yet it stayed true to their characters with the emotional conflict and banter.

And the confession was very nice..

But the best part.. They Talked.. thats something i always miss on YHM.

I reiterate you write very well. Please write more and share.
