its the screenplay and direction , also music and dialogues which r responsible, plus romance. Without the right team, no one can click. The best couple on TV ever were Barun Sanaya in ipkknd - that was such a wow package - the soulful music, intense characterization, wow...but that too started sliding down after 10 months or so...
