Raman sacrificing his relationship with Ishita - note for CVs

Hello everyone. Like most people here, the level of writing on the show has been bothering me a lot. My rant however is not about the story but about the screenplay and dialogue. I understand that there are pressures on writers and on the makers to achieve a certain sort of success, and they are all probably working very hard for the TRPs. They can have all sorts of illogical twists, but even within that larger framework they can stick to logic and their characterisation, and things would be better than they are right now. Here are two examples.

Raman's dialogue to himself after his car ride with Ishita:
When Ishita begins talking to Ruhi on the phone, Raman could have said this to himself "Ishita, I was not hurt by what Shagun said. I realised a long time ago that money matters more to her than emotion. What I am unhappy about is that you had to lie to me to make me feel better. How could our marriage have been a fairytale? I hated you, my family didn't like you, we all did whatever we could to escape the situation, we were disrespectful of all your rituals... and you had done nothing to deserve any of that. You deserve better Ishita... you deserve not just a better wedding but a better husband."
It need not have been as long as this, but needed to make the following points: Shagun did not affect Raman and that Raman thinks Ishita is lying when she praises their wedding. This way, even if he is in sacrificial mode, at least he is closer to the earlier Raman in some ways.
NB: I don't mind Raman getting affected by Shagun in some things, but this one was totally a one step forward, two steps backward kind of thing. Here is my second example:

Ashok - Shagun wedding:
It has been so difficult to justify Ishita, Raman and family attending Shagun's wedding that the writers themselves have referred to it more than once. One way out of it could have been that its a double wedding, both Shagun - Ashok's and Mihir - Mihika's. Mihir Mihika wanted a simple wedding but Shagun has insisted on a joint wedding, and so the functions are jointly organised. That way, Ishita Raman and Ishita's family would all have attended all the events without any clarification. The same events could have happened - Ruhi spoiling Shagun's mehendi, Adi burning his hand in the sangeet,
the bachelor party incident. Raman, Mani, Bala would all have been busy with Mihir's bachelor party, which could have been separate from Ashok's. Ashok could still have been marrying for the contract while eyeing Mihika. Even Mihika's planning could have been the same. If she is behaving like this in these circumstances, she could behave like this even with an upcoming wedding.

These are just two examples to show that even when things get improbable, good writing can keep them plausible. Hope the team takes that into account and makes a decent show if not a great one. They still write interesting scenes from time to time, but the larger whole is increasingly falling apart.

Right frickin on!

While I'm one of the many who is pissed off at the direction (😆 what direction?? this story is like a broken campus, pointing every which way but going nowhere! LOL) of the story...you're still so on point...good writing would definitely have helped them out. I completely agree with you about this part in particular :

"They can have all sorts of illogical twists, but even within that larger framework they can stick to logic and their characterisation, and things would be better than they are right now"

We all understand that this is a fictional show...a soap. Soaps have a history of illogical twists and turns, but the good ones (I can only reference American ones-General Hospital and Y&R are my favs!) are really good with keeping their characters on lock and the premise similar. If there is a change (the shows I've mentioned have been on for decades, so change is inevitable) then it is usually gradual. For every baby that becomes a teenager in a span of a few months even though everyone else is the same age (I'm not kidding this happens all the time!), you have staple characters that are at their very core unchanging. Weird twists and turns happen to them but they react to these twists and turns as themselves and not as some weird versions of themselves hastily created by the writers to fit their wack story (Mihikha suddenly turning into a fool even though she is whip smart and tough as nails!...come on CV's you really messed this one up)

A Mihikha-Mihir and Shagun-Ashok combo wedding would be illogical in the real world, but the premise would have worked for this soap and everything that has happened afterwards could still have happened, and it would have made way, way better sense then it does now.

Great post!

The writers don't suck, I mean they've done an amazing job, more or less, at least up to the time slot change.

They're clearly getting high TRP's so they'll probably continue to sacrifice quality writing...I just don't understand why? I really think that if they had stuck to what made the show so awesome in the first place then they'd have their high TRP's coupled with high quality work...wouldn't that be freakin awesome?!

Gud post. YHM really has a great pool of talent from writers, actors to everyone so they really shudnt have gone so low for creating Drama n trps. 😳

Anyways what is shown cant be undone! I m just sitting thru Shagun shadi drama n waiting the storyline to unfold. 😊

Unfortunately the only time CVs listen is when TRPs drop then they do fire fighting till then they happily serve the mediocre dish to the happy consumers. 😳

I too gave suggestions in the past how Param track they cud have shown Bhallaji getting Param home instead of Ishita so that it makes some sense n also we wud have witnessed some real gud bonding between Ishita n Mr Bhalla. 😳 But CVs prefer shortcut way to success than working hard n highly creative. 😆

Exactly!

I said it in another post of mine as well...if they had stuck to their quality then they would have had crazy ass TRP's ...if they're getting high trp's with this stuff just imagine what would happen if they brought their A game!

Thank you. And thanks for replying 😊
Exactly. As long as the characters remain themselves, we can work with weird plot turns. And I agree with your other post that they have written well in the past, so they just need to return to that level.

Yes, I don't think they want to listen to other ideas 😆
