"Maybe I was destined to forever fall in love with people I couldn't have.
Maybe there's a whole assortment of impossible people waiting for me to find them.Waiting to make me feel the same impossibility over and over again."
~Carol Rifka Brunt
Raman Bhalla had forsaken love from his life 6 years back...and was living a projected life which he made with the sheer grit of his determination. Armed with attitude, with nonchalance towards everything he protected the deep recess of his broken spirit. He thought he was safe. And then he met Ishita, who unbeknownst to himself, ushered in a subtle change in him...a change that started thawing his heart and opening it up to feel again...first for his daughter, Ruhi, who he had estranged emotionally by choice.
Ishita Iyer's love was rejected because of her physical inability to conceive. She accepted the verdict and faced the heartbreak by channeling in her selflessness. She went overboard with helping others, without expecting anything in return. Her marriage to Raman Bhalla was based on that same selflessness. She wanted to protect Ruhi.
Thus began their journey into marriage. Their only promise: to be Ruhi's parents. Their only bond: Sirf Ruhi ke liye.
But then they fell in love. With each other, more deeply than they ever had loved anyone. Love does not guarantee reciprocation, who better than them knows about it? So they protected themselves by their banters, barbs...hoping for the day the other side conceded. But ironically, love was inundating their hearts to a point when they unconsciously started bringing their guards down.
They wanted to show their feelings...to each other. They were in that precipice of expressing love on Karwa Chauth...both longing for each other...overwhelmed by their own feelings.
But unfortunately, their destiny had other plans. His past betrayal, her little white lies converged in their lives and created a storm...that razed both their hopes to the ground. He thought she dreamed of a future with someone else. She thought he was still cared only about his past. Their present lay bereft of each other's love.
Today they stood at the same place. Both reeling from the aftermath of, what they thought was, unrequited love. He wanted to throw her away from his life, like her bracelet but couldn't place himself to have a life without her. She lashed out at others, frustrated at not having her love returned...then broke down feeling that her love was not enough for him to move him away from his past.
At the end both grasping at the only reason they could: Ruhi
...with a difference.
One day they had started their journey to protect Ruhi ...now they held onto Ruhi for protecting themselves... from a life without each other...with probably hope beyond hope.
- A soulful episode.
- Wonderful acting by DT and KP...Their frustration, heart break..pain of what they feel is unrequited love very palpable...made me want to reach across the screen and give both Raman and Ishita hugs. 👏
