Huh ... I finally got the time to put my two cents about this already well appreciated post ... In my opinion, the problem lies in our mentality or the way the general audience grows up or perceives things ... the problem starts with the time slot of YHM. As soon as we get to know that it slotted to be shown at 11:00 pm slot, our mind straightaway drifts to all kind of bold or mature content.
Now, the real problem starts with our understanding of adult content. Most of us are brought to believe that any media presentation becomes an Adult stuff if they only contain explicit sexual content. While, in reality, it can be mature because of violent scenes, or topics which are sensitive to children etc.For instance, the movie Black does not contain anything violent or adult in it and anyone will agree with me that it is brilliant piece of work ... yet in my view it is something which should be given an A certificate because it is suitable for adults and not for children as in it not something which children will understand or enjoy.
In the same way, YHM is a serial made for mature audience. If we look at the content of YHM, it touch-bases so many sensitive issues like:
1. Society's treatment to a woman who cannot bear a child (I think using the term infertile is a derogatory term).
2. Inter caste marriage between two diametrically opposite cultures and its implications
3. Effect of broken marriages on children
4. Bad parenting and its damaging effects on children
5. Custody and its twisted laws which sometimes favor women unfavorably
6. Second marriage
7. Understanding a relationship between a step mom and step daughter. All step moms are not Lalita Pawar or Bindus like shown in every second hindi movies.
I can easily write in detail about each of them but anyone who understands these issues will agree that all the issues are sensitive mature issues to be dealt with utmost sensitivity and may not be suitable or appropriate for a child or someone in early teens.
Therefore, I believe when Ekta started this show, her idea was to present a mature topic to audience who hook up to the TV late at night. While, I agree that eventually, they are husband and wife and they will not hold on to their chastity belt forever, but everything needs to happen at a steady speed. While, the accident track did get on my nerves and I for once wanted it to end ... but I in no way will relate to them if either of suddenly starts getting wet dreams for each other (I apologize in advance for the explicit language).
In my opinion, both Raman and Ishita are emotionally broken souls who have been brought together by circumstances and though they have reached a comfortable scenario, they have to travel a long way before they can even imagine something like that. Both of them have closed their respective hearts under big locks and the code to open them is pretty complex. While each episode is working on it, I think it is still a long way before this happens. I will rather have them go through a phase of friendship, trust (which they have started and has been tested for a while), followed by awareness of each other's presense, realization, denial, self - confrontation, confrontation with each other and then consummation.
If Ekta is intelligent, she can easily make so many episodes out of these individual steps and believe me, practically, this is what will keep us hooked to this serial also in longer run for the sole reason that YHM as always will be near to the actual reality 😊😊.
