Ok I have been meaning to make this post for the past 2 days but couldnt. In the midst of all IshRa moment celebrations CVs seems to slip out and the episode is slightly spoiled for me 😆
Mistake numero uno:
MURUGAN?! 😲 phirse MURUGAN??? I am glad the "Ayyo" was removed before Muruga but Murugan for the hundredth time made me cringe during Friday's episode. CVs its JUST MURUGA lets try that again... MURUGA and one more time... MU-RU-GA
Please CVs do correct that! The whole time after Ishita says Murugan, the charm is gone and I can't seem to enjoy the scenes after that!

Mistake numero dos:
I know Neenaji is a very talented actor but I really wish she takes more training while delivering tamil dialogues. Yes there has been a vast improvement in her diction but she seems to rush through the words and most of the time it sounds gibberish and cluttered so I have rewind and listen to what she is trying to say. Let her have shorter tamil dialogues and have a proper tutor to teach her how to pronounce slowly.

Mistake numero tres:
Amma's outburst in front of everybody on Friday. I very well understand it's absolutely bad that Ishita had to cook chicken. I am a Tamil brahmin myself and I can't even imagine being in a situation like Ishita was in the show. Ishita made a choice to cook chicken for she felt it was up to her to save the family's respect. Agreed, even after being married, one shouldn't have to change his/her individual moral upbringing for the other spouse. And Bhallas have showed respect to the fact that Ishita is a brahmin and we have seen so many instances where Raman makes sure he sees to his in-laws' vegetarian needs. But here Ishita made a choice and has cooked. There is a family guest in the house and Ishita's respect is at scrutiny. And at that time for Amma to create ruckus in her daughter's house didn't seem right. Or to put it better, it was unnecessary. She could have walked away with a cold glare and come back to shout at Ishu or even try to find out why her susheel and sanskaric daughter cooked chicken. I am not saying Amma's outburst was wrong, but the timing was.

Okay I am done complaining. 😆

Muruga or Murugan is the Tamil name of Lord Kartikeya (second son of Lord Shiva & brother of Lord Ganesh), who is a very popular god among Tamilians. Just as others exclaim "Jesus" or "hey bhagwan" when they are surprised or vexed, it is natural for Tamilians to exclaim Muruga or Murugan (that is how many Tamilians pronounce it). Similarly it is common for Gujaratis & Rajasthanis to exclaim hey Dwarkadeesh or Thakurji, Maharashtrians to exclaim Deva re Deva, and so on. Aiyyo is the Tamil equivalent of saying "uh-oh" in English or "uff" or "hai" in Hindi.
Tamil Brahmins who have grown up outside Tamil Nadu may not use these phrases much but I hear them frequently when I visit Tamil Nadu. I fail to see why anyone would find "Aiyyo Murugan" more objectionable or irritating than say "hey bhagwan" or "oh god".

Am sure it irks when someone gets your first language wrong. I agree in case the language is not upto par, they need to do something to get it right. Also I do believe they did not want Ishu to say Murga and Muruga in the same sentence 😆. Most TV audience who do not know Tamil wouldn't have understood it especially since she has been saying Murugan from the very start.

As a vegetarian myself, wouldn't want to be caught dead in such a situation but then it was a choice that Ishita made (sucks that she did it for Simmi ... at the least she could have done it for RKB 😛).
Mrs. Iyer has a tendency to over-react from the start without actually considering the pro's n cons. I have made my peace with it. But Toshi's initial reaction to Mrs. Iyer when she started ranting was too good 😆.

I agree! But I think Neenaji is better than Divyanka who says "Sambar" instead of sambaar and "D"osa. Neenaji isn't awkward when saying Tamil phrases unlike Divyanka who speaks in a manner that you instantly can find out it is not her language.
I belong to a South Indian Brahmin family. If such a situation arose in my family, I think they will go off exactly the way Madhaviji did without a thought difference being they aren't as broad minded as Madhaviji. My grandmother makes a face if she even sees a non veg dish being made on TV.

Umm Tamil is my first language and I am quite aware that the actual noun form of the word is Murugan. But when you are calling out the form is changed into "Muruga". This is parallel of sanskrit grammar known as vibhakti shabdas relating to each action. For instance you take the word "Rama' in sanskrit the nominative form is Ramah and the denominative or the form used to address a person is Rama or Hey Rama. You wouldn't say Ramah come here. Likewise, in tamil grammar the nominative form is Murugan and the denominative form is Muruga. All tamil speaking would address Lord names in this same denominative form: "Rama!" "Krishna!" "Muruga!" etc

And coming to the "Aiyyo" part... English equivalent is "uh-oh" but try saying "Aiyyo" in front of any traditional Tamil speakers, they would scold you. I have been scolded many times by my grandparents for using that word. Saying "Aiyyo" is like saying "Oh God". Traditional Christians would condemn saying "Oh God" because it's taking the Lord's name in vain. Aiyyo is traditionally considered inauspicious especially while taken with the Lord's name. Yes now things have changed and people take Aiyyo frequently but that's not correct.
