I think it is both him owning his reponsibility as a husband and being protective of Ishu. Despite his crusty exterior and facade he is a loving family man with strong values and a fiercly protective of his famlily which now includes Ishu.
If you recall he is also protective of Mihir who he considers his brother.
It is in moments like this that a person's true mettle shows thru - in how they respond to adverse situations. Similarly you can see Bala's good nature - he asked his mother to let it go because what she was doing was unkind.
As someone said in another post - he is allowing himself to love again. What he did was an action that stems from love even if it isn't romantic love yet
Despite Ishu being criticized as lecturing too much in the DNA reveal confrontation - I think her words and actions have made an impact on Raman. Although perhaps she could have said them better, she said what Raman needed to hear.
Sometimes kindness doesn't look all nice nice and lovey dovey. Ishu was being kind and her kindness is being returned
Ishu has some thruths she also needs to hear (like jumping to conlclusions, trusting people that lie (eg Shagun) and being judgemental) - as is likely in the coming episode
