Every festival or celebration inevitably sees young TV starlets take centre stage and perform the ubiquitous latka and jhatkas to the latest item songs but when the mothers- in- law decide to steal a march over their bahus and put on a jig of their own is when a TV show becomes really interesting. In a double whammy episode that celebrates Holi as well as the marriage of 'Hitler Didi' Indira (played by Rati Pandey) and Rishi (played bySumit Vats), there is every element of a smashing episode - naach, gaana and lots of Chandni Chowk ishtyle drama with actors from all the channel's primetime shows joining Indira and Rishi in their celebration.
Indira's sangeet is where the "showdown of the saas" takes place. With the boy's and girl's families taking each other on in a "fulltoo takkar", it comes down to the formidable mothers- in- law to fight the last battle. Kratika Desaitake on the grand old lady of TV Usha Nadkarni in a Chikni Chameli vs. the original Marathi number of Kombdi Palali. While Krutika oozed her natural oomph and infused it into her every move and expression, Ushaji was in her element with her signature moves and unmatched expressions.
Of-course, keeping everyone on their feet was the enthusiastic, energetic choreographer Pappu who is known for his knack of keeping all the dancers energy levels sky high. As he constantly hollered 'jala do' or 'hila do set' which are meant to serve as pep talk to the dancers, Ushaji had her tongue firmly in her cheek when she replied, "mujhe stage jala daalne kehte ho, par koi maachis deta hi nahi." Ushaji, you are too cute. We like your blazing spirit and think that you are doubtlessly the Queen of Spunk on Indian Television.
