Title: A Better You

Author: Neelam08

alright im slightly confused as to how we're supposed to organize our stories...so ill just add to the bottom of this post whatever part i add...i hope thats convenient : )

Part 1:

"Do you realize what a freaking jerk you are?"

Stumbling on empty soda cans, Shwaib fell down and tried to stifle his laughter. "Dude, I'm sorry. Please just--- ow!"

Hitting him again, Lolitha groaned in anger. "I can't believe you Shwaib. I just can't believe you had the audacity to do something like that. I should push you down the stairs for this. And then I should----"

"Hey…whoa. Lolitha, what are you doing?" Sahana asked as she walked in, rushing to Shwaib's defense.

Pushing her hair back, Lolitha stood up and let out another war cry. "Do you know what this fool did?"

"I will once you tell me," Sahana said with a half-smile, lending a hand to Shwaib.

"You know his stupid obsession with collecting classic movies?"

"Yea?"

"So apparently Gauhar had some old DVDs, right? Well, our dear Shwaib wanted them so badly that he promised Gauhar a date with me if he gave those DVDs to Shwaib!"

Raising her eyebrows, Sahana shook her head slowly and looked over at Shwaib warily. "Shwaib, you wouldn't do that…"

"Ask the idiot yourself," Lolitha replied, throwing a pillow at him one last time, before retreating to her room.

Hearing the door close, Sahana looked at Shwaib again. "Are you serious?"

"Two wonderful DVDs Sahana. Gone With The Wind and The Breakfast Club. When I saw them in his collection, I felt as though I was one step away from winning the lottery," Shwaib explained enthusiastically.

"Shwaib, that's great and all. But come on. You literally sold Lolitha in exchange for them. And on top of that, Gauhar is so…different," Sahana said, trying to find the right word. "Our Miss Universe will kill herself before ruining her reputation by going out with Gauhar."

"But he's a nice guy. Just because he's a little on the dorky side doesn't mean anything," Shwaib explained, walking towards the sofa. "Besides, he really likes Lolitha. His face practically lit up when I mentioned her name."

"Couldn't you have just paid him for the DVDs?" Sahana asked, plopping down on the sofa herself.

"No, he asked for a fortune. Those DVDs were definitely not that much. Besides, I do my best to keep enough money for food. I don't have money for pleasure. You know that."

"Hm." After a pause, Sahana sighed, smiling slowly. "So…when's their date?"

*

Putting on a fresh coat of mahogany lipstick, Lolitha stared at her reflection in the mirror for a moment, before bending down to pick up matching earrings with her dress.

"You can't just ditch the poor guy," Sahana said, her forehead crinkling with worry. "Just spend like an hour with him and say you're not feeling well or something. He'll surely drop you home right away."

Turning around, Lolitha shrugged. "Sahana, have you seen him? His clothes are tacky, his hairstyle is from the 80's, and he wears glasses that look like bifocals."

Feeling genuinely sorry for Gauhar, Sahana tried to convince Lolitha to go. "Hey, your fashion sense is amazing…"

"And?"

"Well, if you think Gauhar's appearance is so shabby, you should give him a makeover. You know…like on television. The popular girl gives an unpopular boy a makeover and he turns out to be extremely handsome, and they fall in love, and live happily ever after."

Walking over to her closet, Lolitha looked for heels to wear. After finding the right pair in a multitude of shoes, she walked over to her bed and sat down. "Sahana, it's not just his fashion sense. Have you seen the way he looks? Like his face? His nose has this huge bump and his face is full of acne. He's just…ugly." Before Sahana could protest, Lolitha put up her hand. "I know I sound mean. But it's true and inside, you know that too. In movies, the guy is a hot actor underneath, but this is reality. Gauhar is not hot…not on the outside, not underneath." Standing up, she smiled softly and hugged Sahana. "Anyway, I'm off to the club. You sure you don't want to come?"

"No, it's okay," Sahana replied with a small smile. "You go on and have fun. Someone has to tell Gauhar you're busy after all."

Part 2:

"Hi, is Lolitha here?" Gauhar asked, standing at the door excitedly.

Watching his shoulders bounce in enthusiasm, Sahana forced a smile and apologized genuinely. "She had some urgent business to attend to. I'm sorry."

The light in Gauhar's face dimmed as he looked down and shuffled his feet. "Oh. Of course." He looked up again at Sahana and nodded. "Perfect timing for urgent business to attend to."

Sahana looked down at the floor and thought of something consoling to say but nothing came out of her parted lips. She hated lying, especially when there was no need to. Why did Lolitha have to make her do this? One cup of coffee wouldn't have killed her.

Turning around as he murmured 'good night', Gauhar walked towards the elevator.

Her gaze dropping on the bouquet of white roses Gauhar had brought with him, which were now limping at his side, Sahana called out Gauhar's name before she even realized what she was doing. "Wait! Gauhar!"

Confused, Gauhar turned around and furrowed his shaggy eyebrows. His long nose was scrunched and Sahana quickly spoke before she changed her mind. "If you're free, do you mind if we get something to eat? I haven't eaten dinner yet and I'm pretty sure you haven't either. What do you say?"

Skeptical, Gauhar looked around as if he was the victim of a cruel joke. He felt positive there were cameras here. Otherwise, why would this girl ask him out for dinner all randomly?

Shrugging sheepishly, Sahana moved back. This was embarrassing. It seemed as though she was about to get rejected. From Gauhar Sen out of all the people in the world. As she prayed this news would not get out, Gauhar's facial expression changed as he smiled slowly.

"Sure. I would love to."

Surprised, Sahana smiled with a sigh. "Um okay, let me just grab my coat!"

*

"It's very interesting how the network of signals profusely collaborates and in turn forms this completely dynamic concept, no? It's almost psychedelic!"
Staring in confusion, Sahana nodded with a half-smile. What?

"On top of that, it really advances into…." Seeing Sahana was more interested in blowing the froth from her cappuccino than listening to his computer science frenzy, Gauhar let out a small nervous giggle. "Sorry, I get carried away sometimes."

Smiling apologetically, Sahana shrugged her shoulders. "I'm really sorry. It's not that I'm not interested in what you're explaining to me. It's simply that I don't really understand it."

"I suppose it's okay. I'm surprised you're even talking to me at all."

Furrowing her eyebrows, Sahana shook her head. "Why would you say that?"

"Oh…well. You know." Remembering his rejection from Lolitha, Gauhar scoffed. "I'm not really the type of guy that girls like you would generally hang out with. It's obvious you all think you're better than people who aren't as good looking or whatever as you."

Looking down at her hands, Sahana shook her head slowly. "That's not true."

"Of course it's not," Gauhar said sarcastically. "I know Lolitha didn't have some urgent business to attend to. She pretty much stood me up. What did she do? Pay you to spend an hour with me or something?"

Baffled as to where this conversation had suddenly ended up, Sahana looked up, somewhat hurt. "No, she didn't pay me. I came here of my own according."

His nervous disposition overtaking him again, Gauhar fixed his glasses. "Oh…ok no no. I'm sorry. I was…please. I'm sorry."

Nodding nonchalantly, Sahana took a sip for her cup. "It's okay I suppose. I have a notion of where you're coming from. It makes complete sense if you feel hurt from what Lolitha did. But I just want to assure you that I'm not like that. I'm here because I want to. I know we haven't spoken much over the years but it was never because of your appearance or anything. I just never had reason." Looking up, she smiled. "But I'm glad we found one today."

Hearing this, Gauhar smiled back, forcing Sahana to move back in awe. She had not realized how beautiful his eyes were behind his glasses. His smile had added a sparkle to his warm chocolate brown eyes, lighting up his entire face.

Looking him over once more, Sahana saw why Lolitha had refused to go out with Gauhar. He had a long thin face with a prolonged nose that was enhanced with a small bump. His hair was sleek with overused gel and his face glistened with a couple of red zits that were hard to ignore. However, Lolitha had overlooked his affectionate eyes, his incredibly fair skin, and his dimples. Once again, she thought of the typical filmy plot where the heroine changed the appearance of the hero, making him into a second Adonis. If Lolitha wouldn't do it, maybe she could?

As long as Gauhar didn't realize what she would subtly try to do, it would be okay. Right?

Ohh I like this one!

I am intrigued by the story and all the characters. Lolitha seems to be a
witch but one I can like a lot. Somehow I identify with her. It's just...I don;t
know how to explain it...I feel a connection with all the characters. Great job
with them. 👏

I really like the first part and I'll be looking forward to more coming up.
Update soon! 👏 👏
