Ahh okay, Vikram also having 'powers'..

I admit in giving Amyra a powerful sense of smell that helps her make some 'calculated guesses' on a person's character I was going more for a sixth sense, ESP kinda thing. A sharp intuition that many of us have but in Amyra's case it's accentuated by her powerful sense of smell.

Now this veers into the supernatural/ sci-f-/fanstasy genre.

"I mean who is perfect? We're all mere mortal humans." Gautam smiled at Diler.

"But striving for perfection is very human." Arvind joined in. "Hello, Diler, how have you been?"

"I'm good." The older man answered. "Thanks for coming!"

"Pleasure is mine." Arvind smiled. Diler excused himself to meet other guests.

"When are you planning to announce our kids' engagement?" Gautam asked.

"As soon as both agree. Next week?" Arvind turned to Vikram whose eyes were wide in shock.

"I- we need some time." Vikram voiced. This was too soon. No.

"How about a month?" Gautam asked.

"Fine by me." Arvind smiled.

Vikram excused himself and walked outside to get some fresh air.

"Hey!" Amyra stood beside him. "What are you doing here?"

"Nothing. You?" Vikram's eyes still focused on the distant light.

"I saw you leaving so thought of joining you. I was so bored!"

"Sorry, I left you alone in there. Your dad-" Vikram bit his tongue.

"My dad?"

Vikram glanced at her, "Wants to announce our engagement in a month."

"Seriously?"

He nodded.

After a long awkward pause, Amyra asked, "Do you really want to marry me?"

Vikram looked at her. "It doesn't matter what I want."

"Of course it -"

"Oh, here you are. And I've been searching everywhere!" Jhanvi huffed. "Let's go inside, come on."

Later that night, Amyra sprawled on her bed.

'It doesn't matter what I want.'

"Why did he say that?" She thought aloud. "Does it mean I am not the only one under my parents pressure?"

She pulled out a journal and started scribbling on it.

Suyash dropped a text.

Oii! Are you okay? Haven't heard from you for over a year.

Yes. Suyash frowned. That was an unusual response.

My? What happened?

Nothing.

Suyash fidgeted with his phone before finally calling her.

Call declined.

He tried calling her a few times again before picking his bike keys.

Amyra sat upright as she heard a knock on her window. She tiptoed towards it and peeked out.

"What are you doing here?"

"You weren't answering the phone or texts so." Suyash shrugged and he jumped inside.

"The party was too long and boring. All my social battery is currently drained."

"What else?"

"I have a feeling."

"Feeling? Singular?"

"I don't know."

"What is it?"

"I just said I don't know!" Amyra snapped.

Suyash cupped her cheeks, "Hey, calm down. It's alright. We'll figure it out, okay?"

Amyra nodded softly.

Not sure if I've been able to establish the conflicted feelings and both Vikram and Amyra not wanting to be together, clearly.

Imma confused. Who's Diler? I thought Amyra's dad was Arvind?
