The Alchemist is a great book but couldn't understand why Santiago wanted to turn himself into sandsmiley36

If you liked it, you can try Tuesday's with Morrie. It has similar philosophical self-help kinda element.

Throughout the book, there are quotes about life and its further journey, such as -- 'Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself!!'

'Love is not to be found in someone else but in ourselves; we simply have to awaken it. But in order to do that, we need another person!' How true it is!

yup, I've read it quite a few times, it is nice! smiley27

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

When Breath Becomes Air

Cancer Ward by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (Any Russian Literature fan here?)

Give it a try. I think you like it just finesmiley36

I honestly couldn't stand the author's dirty mind/language towards women's body.

The Alchemist is overrated. I was so excited to read it after hearing so much praise, but it was a struggle to finish. Maybe because I had read a similar book before.smiley36

That IS Correct. Guilty as charged.

I know you - recommended Elizabeth O’Roark to me ages ago, she’s on my TBR - need to get to it soon. smiley24 Catharina Maura has been recommended a few times in the FB group I’m in so I’ll try her too.

TWLB - I agree. I didn’t get the hype. 95% of the FB group thinks it’s the best one in the series and I can’t move from TWNGO! smiley36 And they all hate the second book which I thought wasn’t bad at all!

Ana Huang- I haven’t read anything since Twisted Hate but she’s all over SM and I know her books are crazy popular.

Re Sleeping Murder: I first read AC’s books wayyyy back when I was in school and when I hadn’t been so exposed to reading and I thought she and most of her works were GOAT. I understand how some of them might feel dated now. But I hate the idea of rewriting problematic portions of older books to fit in with the modern day sensibilities. smiley29 It’s taking wokeness too far

Most of the LJ Shen ones aren't dark or anything but I guess only "The Kiss Thief" has a revenge undertone. Nothing over the top apart from one or two scenes. Rest are all pretty chill actually.

My God I LOVED the second book I think it was so great with Nash handling his demons and FMC being his Angel and everything. It was spicy as hell and had a headstrong girl lead. Loved it! As much as I expected from the third book because it had so many of my beloved tropes it didn't deliver.

Ana used to be so good I just can't with her last two books. They were BAD.

Oooh these two! Poe is so macabre - I haven’t read him lately but I remember getting the spooks from his works when I was younger. TKAMB is a must- read. And also a must-watch imo because Gregory Peck IS Atticus Finch.

I agree. I mostly read Poe when my schedule is tight but wanna squeeze in some short reads in between my hectic life :P

I have read The Black Cat, The Tell-Tale Heart and I'm AWE at his Annabel Lee poem! <3

Currently at chater 6 in TKAMB. Just Dill, Jean, and Jem goofing around trying to get Boo Radely to step foot outside of his housesmiley36
