As I grew up

I always found you by my side

Mom and dad often forgot to say goodnight but you never left me un tucked under the soft covers

As I grew up

I always faced challenges and judgment from the society

Soon my owners became the crowd too, but you still remained on my side

I would cry in the dark, under the shower, while everyone was asleep

They would believe my lies but you always saw through me

Saw through the lying eyes, the brimming tears in the steam, the quiet sobs in the dark

They never believed me, went unnoticed my pleas

Even though you were a part of them just as I was, you needn't ever a tearful plea

Life became rough

Not just for me, yours was worse too

Despite, I had always remembered that cheerful smile

Don't get me wrong but the pain in those eyes was visible too

Yet you assured that everything was right, just right

I knew you wouldn't tell me but I understood too well

Life took a u-turn and we stood where we had started

Again and again it all had repeated

I could take it no longer

Wonder what you went through

Our hopes had died, your smile soon faded

Pain in those eyes grew as we lived

Until those eyes closed too

i felt so alone, so rejected, in despair

But I made sure your smile didn't die

You no longer had pain but with that the soul was gone too

I let them say whatever they wanted but inside I knew you were always here

…right by my side

I still see you tugging me under the covers

Your scent lets me know you came to look me over

As I grew

I smiled for you
