Kyun - Episode 15
"No?" Sakshham said, shocked.
"That's right, no. I'm sorry Sakshham, I just can't. We've only been friends for 4 months now. Four months isn't a sufficent time to get to know someone, to get to understand what they're like. Don't get me wrong Sakshham, I like you, I really and truly do. It's just, I came to London here on a scholarship to complete my course. I can't just forget all of that and leave all of my studies behind. I want us to be boyfriend and girlfriend; go out to movies, have dinner together, go out for coffee, but I just can't get married yet. I only have 1 and 1/2 years left for my course, and during that time I want to get you know you more, and get to have pre-maritial bliss. I promise you that once the Journalism Course is over, we can get married right that weekend. I hope you understand..." Priyanca said with tears in her eyes.
"I do." Sakshham said, giving Priyanca a gentle smile.
"Come on, enough of this Emotional Attyachar! Lets go somewhere nice to eat" Priyanca said smiling.
...
And so those 1 and 1/2 years that Priyanca had left in London for spend spending time with Sakshham, and of course studies. During the winter break of the following year, Priyanca's parents came over and met Sakshham's parents. Both sets of parents approved of the rishta. While Priyanca's parents were in London, a small engagement ceremony was held, ensuring Priyanca and Sakshham stayed faithful with each other for the remaining 6 months of the Journalism Course. With the help of their soon-to-be in-laws and parents, Priyanca and Sakshham bought a small yet spacious 2 bedroom house, 2 months prior to the ending of the course. Sure, Priyanca and Sakshham had the occasional fight in between, but those kind of things happen when two people are in love. Speaking of love, Priyanca and Sakshham won't the only ones in love. Isha and Sameer took their friendship to the next level, and decided to get married. Priyanca and Isha promised each other that they would get married on the same day, at the same time, and at the same wedding alter. When the due date arrived, priyanca and Sakshham pulled on their black graduation robes and caps, and graduated happily, hand in hand.
...
After that, marriage preperations were in full swing for both Sameer-Isha and Priyanca-Sakshham. Sangeet Ceremonies, Menhndi Ceremonies, Haldi Ceremonies, Tilak Ceremonies, Bachelor Parties, Chuda Ceremonies, and Special Pujas were held for both couples.
Finally, the D-Day arrived...
"Dorthy! Ms. Dorthy! Come here please! Put the tray of flowers on that counter. Yes that one. Uff, yeah gorey bhi na!" Anu chimed as she strode through the big hall of Sakshham's house.
It was indeed the day both Isha-Sameer and Priyanca-Sakshham were to be married. The wedding preperations were in full swing, and all 4 sets of parents were working together to have the house decorated in time. After all, there were two mandaps to prepare, not just one. Isha's mom was dressed in a heavy purple sari with light pink embroidery, a purple necklace set, and matching bangles on both arms. Isha's dad was dressed in a dark blue sherwani and a white pyjama. Sameer's mom was dressed in a yellow lehnga with a gold necklace set and matching yellow bangles. Sameer's dad was dressed in an orange sherwani and a creme pyjama. Sakshham's mom was dressed in a white lehnga with gold embroidery and a gold necklace set, with white and gold bangles to match. Sakshham's dad was dressed in a long dark green kurta with a yellowish pyjama. Priyanca's mom was dressed in a light pink sari with silvery embroidery and a white gold necklace set, with light pink bangles to match.
Upstairs in the guest room, Isha and Priyanca were readying themselves up, together. [Grrr! My laptop just erased the paragraph I wrote. I'll have to start again.] Both girls had decided to match their bridal attire. Priyanca and Isha had both picked out matching maroon lehngas with gold embroidery, a heavy diamond-studded gold set, and red and white chuda bangles. Both girls also adorned a pair of elbaorate gold heirloom kangans. The guys had decided to match also. Both Sakshham and Sameer were sitting down at their respective mandaps, wearing maroon sherwanis with gold embroidery and a matching dupattas. A top their heads were pink turbans with a beautiful feather on it. Covering their faces were white and red sehras, making them look incredibly dashing, even though their faces couldn't be seen.
"Ab Samay Ho Gaya Hai. Kanyaein Ko Neeche Bolao." The Priets repeated one after another.
Isha's mom and Priyanca's mom went to go see their respective daughters. Both daughters were hugged and sent down to sit by their respective grooms.
"Ab Shaadi Shuru Karein?" One Pandit ji asked the other.
"Ji." The other said.
The wedding rituals went on, and friends and family watched with much glee. The varmala ceremony went well, but both girls were lifted up by one of their male friends, as Sakshham and Sameer kept on standing on their toes, making it difficult for Priyanca and Isha to put the garlands on their grooms.
...
Various other ceremonies were held. Large pinches of bright red sindoor were rubbed onto each of the bride's partings. Mangalsutras; a diamond one for Priyanca and a heavy pure gold for Isha, were fastened around each brided neck. Both couples walked around the holy fire 7 times, completeing the wedding ceremony. Both brides were asked to lift up their groom's sehras, so they could see their grooms faces. Priyanca and Isha lifted up their grooms sehras. Priyanca lifted now-husbands sehra, to see Sameer. Isha lifted up her now-husband's sehra to see Sakshham. Priyanca was now Mrs. Priyanca Sameer Kapoor, as was Isha now Mrs. Isha Sakshham Oberoi.
