It is already buried so deep under their so called love that I think it would be difficult to bring it back.

The typical soap mindset is that it's either love or friendship.
If friends become lovers they cannot go back to being friends.
It's either love between them or nothing.
It's a one way traffic.

A real successful relationship would consist of both friendship and trust.

A successful soap relationship only requires love.

The real problem is that the seriel makers actually believe that love is superior to friendship.
Hence they do not want to show their leads being friends. They feel it's belittling their love.
