The serial rating didn't drop

That was to be expected. I wonder if the cvs are sleep deprived when they write the story. Or maybe they are under the influence of some typically magical drug that exists only in daily soaps that makes one loose their senses and loose memory all at once?

BTW, what happened in today's episode?

Nothing much happened. Only what was shown in the precap. And today's precap - Preet is rushing out of the BH with Simi. Raj sees and stops her and accuses her of having hidden another big truth from him. He tells her she's not even worthy of hatred, let alone friendship As usual does not wait to hear her side of the story and goes on with his presumptions!
Just hope this time around Preet just gives him a nasty look and drives off without bothering to give any explanation!

Did she actually sign the divorce papers or she away with her almost forgotten typical Mannu smartness?

That wasn't shown. Assuming she did sign the divorce papers.
Mohini blackmailes her to sign the papers, Preet looks heartbroken and then to be continued...!

If she stops to explain herself or not, is yet to be seen. That wasn't shown in the precap. Only hoping she doesn't.
Amrit is very unwell, but insists on taking Preet to Amba because she promised Amba that she would bring Preet. Mohini overhears the conversation and decides to follow them. At the same time, she sees Rohan moving about the house gingerly with a plate in his hand and wonders what's happening at home. She makes Nihaal follow him while she herself follows the ladies.
Preet meets her mother at the Godown. She is very distressed. Blurts out all the truth and how she had protected Simi and kept her hidden from the world. Amba begs Preet to find out where she is. Preet is angry and hurt that her mother has kept such a big secret from her. Amba begs and pleads with her that Preet help find Simi. At that moment Mohini is shown overhearing this conversation. She congratulates herself on getting her hands on something this meaty. At the time her Phone rings and Preet and co get to know that someone had been eavesdropping, but don't find out who.
Preet and Amrit return home. Mohini comes in front of Preet with Simi held at gunpoint by Nihaal. Tells this her wedding gift. Preet gets angry and pulls a knife that was kept on the table at Mohini. Mohini says if she kills her, Nihaal would kill Simi.
Preet is cornered. She looks at the pen in her hand defeated.

That explains why Preet has to leave BH but I still don't understand why/how Jagan would let her stay at PH. He could even call the Panchayat on her for breaking their rules. This could lead to her and Amba being punished.
